White Pelicans winter in the estuaries between Galveston Island and the mainland. They seldom mingle with the brown pelicans, but once in a while you'll see them with the cormorants downtown near the fishing piers. Beautiful birds.

I remember about 35 years ago here
There were none. Now there are the squadrons of them. When spring is here. They fly up from the south.
And fall they fly back to the south.
During the summer I will see .
About 50 of them on the lake.
I fish on the Mississippi River
And lake Onalaska. I see them eat
BIG FISH .like large mouth bass.
And I see them eat Musk rats too.

Hey this is a great video! I saw some of these today.
My husband and I spend our summers on a lake near our home sitting quietly on our boat watching the birds (ok he's sleeping Im watching) there are lots of these guys out there and I can't stop seeing dinosaurs when I observe them. This video made me feel like it was summer! TY!

I just saw these beautiful birds for the first time a couple of weeks ago
I had the privilege of being up close and personal with a mature brown pelican while working at the Port of L.A . I had to secure a gate and there he was blocking my access. We stared one another down with the pelican in full control , a 20 min wait for him to decide to leave. I thought turkey's were big , not so the pelican is huge. Thank you.😄 for sharing

American White Pelicans can be found in eastern Iowa along the wetlands of the Mississippi, Cedar and Iowa River.
There's a large pond, almost a small lake, along the interstate between my parents' home and the family homestead. It's often nearly *covered* in white pelicans during late spring with lots of white wading birds (some sort a heron, I think) along the shore. As a kid, it always struck me as odd to see so many white birds that were completely wild. Even gulls are more of a light grey.
I live along the east coast of Florida and watch the brown pelicans soaring past in groupings of 4 or 5. What exactly am I looking at? Are they a family of related individuals? Is it parents with their kids? What makes up these small flocks? Sometimes there are 10 - 15 in the group just flying past in single file. Is the dominant male the one that leads? So many questions and can't find any answers on the Google.
I'm noticing that they keep their wings up while in the water. Is there a reason for that?
They are keeping them dry so they can fly off quickly if they need to.
