- I bought this Nintendo Game Boy off of eBay for spares or repairs. The listing stated it turned on but didn't load any games.
Can I Fix it?!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

My favorite thing about this channel is that, you show how easy it is to do everything right and still have it not work.
When I get my own job I'll try to fix so many things!
Spoiler alert....
The CZcams algorithm recommended you to me and I've been loving watching your vids. You have such a great personality for this, and I never thought I would enjoy watching someone repair electronics, but yet, I'm on the edge of my seat with you! Thanks for brightening my day!
I like this channel more than other repair channels I've seen.
watching your stuff feels like just sitting in a room with your mate talking as you work on stuff. other channels cut out all the good stuff. lol
These fixes are so satisfying! Thanks for bringing life back to these devices.
Your videos are really well made, its not about having a totally fleshed out lab or some fancy stuff but more about the basics. This makes the videos really enjoyable, something I can easily subscribe to.
'That should work now' ... 'I made it worse, HOW!?' So relatable!! Glad the algorithm recommended you to me. Loving your content!!
Great video, can’t beat watching old tech getting fixed! This Gameboy was the first model I ever played, So it was even better to watch!
Nice one, Steve! You are truly developing skills in micro soldering! Amazing! And the now traditional/classic "stupid game!" at the end, with the right soudtrack song! Nice show, buddy!😁😁😁
🤣🤣 thanks Pedro!
Nice one Steve, so much blue! Lovely colour though. Also sporting a new UV light, very fancy 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Vince! Yeah, the UV light is cracking. So much better (and quicker!) than the torch 👍
Where did you get the uv light from?
So satisfying to watch these repairs! Job well done!
I cannot describe how appreciative I am for discovering your channel lately!
I just found your channel about three days ago, it's so relaxing to watch your videos, have an awesome day!
Man I love the clack when the cartridge slides in and out of the cartridge slot. It's so mechanical, so visceral. So satisfying.
Nice fix btw. I'm surprised the game boy still worked even with a big hole in one of the nodes
I just recently stumbled onto this guy's channel; uh in before he blows up. That moment at 10:26 after going on that journey with you...... *chefs kiss* so satisfying.
I hated electronics back in college, but you made me wanna go back and study it all over again, salute!
CZcams recommended me this video and I'm starting to feel like youtube knows me better than I know myself cause I enjoyed every minute and even gave a sub 🤣.
Wish I could get my 1080 looked at and possibly fixed by someone sent it in for RMA and they wouldn't fix it. It was still under warranty so I refused to pay for the fix. Now it just collects dust cheers going to go binge watch some more of these.
New to the channel and blown away with the level of fault diagnosis and nano surgery taking place 👍 amazing skills man 😎👌
Crazy how I am watching someone fix stuff but still enjoying it and keep watching it.... never would of thought it
i love this channel so much, you make it so easy to understand what's going on
One of the best choices the youtube algorithm has made so far ! Appreciate your fantastic work. : )
You know, you offer a lot of humility in your videos. And you do yourself down. But what you do is incredible. Well done!!
I'm just binging vids now... Love your work!
I love watching you fix stuff it's so satisfying when you get them working again, especially because game boy is still my favorite hand held console, wish I could do that fine soldering you can the components are just too small for me
For some reason CZcams recommended your videos. Now I'm oddly addicted to watching them. I'm glad some body has a steady enough hand to solder like that.
I had never seen this defect on the Gameboy DMG. Excelent video. I love the soundtrack!
Thanks Sabrina! 👍
These videos being recommended to me I don’t know how or why but I’m loving them lol
The ONLY problem i have with this channel is that i need more vids! As always, great stuff
Idk how I stumbled upon your channel but you're a gem bro. Love the content!
Hi Steve, Paul from Littleborough here. I watch you most days and you have spurred me on to start again with the odd thing. Brilliant what you do.. Better than Factory! I also watch My mate Vince and 12 voltvids. All the best, P.
GET IN THERE!! 😁😁😂
Great fix. Looked like a very satisfying one to work through.
Loved the video!
😁😁 Thanks Lee, much appreciated! 👍
Recently found this channel. Love your work man. Youre so calm and easy going in your vids And i learned a lot from it. Only thing i should adjust if i were you (if possible) is the volume of the *PEEEEEEP* currentmeter.
Keep on the good work!
Great video Steve! I love to see old retro systems get fixed! 😊
Thanks Rachel, I really enjoyed working on this one! 😀
Love all of your videos! and the music you use in them!...especially - Don't Leave Yet! (feat. Lil Demi') love the instrumental
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Nice fix, thankfully there was a lot less wrong with my NES. Someone had cut the IRQ line and rejoined it, but was unaware they had cut the next line. Once I realised the extent of the damage, I just added another wire and it booted a game just fine.
You are a braver and more patient man than I. I just go to my Gameboy parts drawer instead of fixing a board.
I love your videos. Keep up the good work 👏
10:25 best laugh ever . Keep the good work :)
😂😂 thanks Froz!
Never seen a damaged gameboy like that ! You are not lucky with your purchases but we are lucky to have a video on it so keep buying junk consoles for our pleasure 😜😂
Thanks KoSlow! I really like doing these trace repair ones, so I'm pleased with the purchases. Obviously I don't know what I'm gonna get when I buy them, but that's part of the fun! 😁
Another great job there Steve your fixing skills have came along way and i enjoy watching your fixes on all items you get so well done mate - nice 1 👍🏻
Thanks Chris, much appreciated! 👍
Fun to watch you bud and see things been fixed
Great videos that are even better with your quirky sense of humour..'d llike to know how much you're able to sell the fixed items for
Another brilliant 👏 video but where did you get that uv light for the solder mask?
Steve I didn’t think you were going to fix this game boy but I was wrong well done sir get in there 👍👏👏thanks for your video see you next time 👍😊
Really enjoy your well produced videos showing your repair journey. The added songs at the end are a lovely bonus!
😁 thanks Mike!
This channel is the definition of 'hidden gem'.
Just found you channel & loving the content 👌
Like your videos ! Subscribed, keep up the nice work ✌️
Cheers from Marseille - France
Thanks Bruno, much appreciated! 👍
OMG!!! This is the first game I played in my gameboy when I was a kid!!! Good job~
Great video, love your comments. Have a game boy with exact the same fault. Now i now where to look!
The closing music, the only reason I give it a like!
Great work Steve. Your repair skills are growing fast.
What is the make and model of the UV timer light.
Thanks John. Not sure if it's a generic one, but it's from repair outlet. This one: repairoutlet.co.uk/collections/uv-lamps/products/qianli-portable-iuv-intelligent-curing-lamp
I was wondering what that device was, so thanks for saying :)
❤️ great vid as always
Awesome Steve! You're getting so much better every time I watch. Unlike the English test cricket team.
😂 thanks Chris! Yeah, they are definitely going the other way. The "reset" button doesn't seem to have been pressed properly yet.
Bit late to this one, but really enjoyed it :) Fantastic work Steve!
Thanks dude! 👍
These consoles are so cool! A concrete brick of a console. I have got 2 of those:) The earliest, produced 89 consoles, have philips screws, not triwing by the way.
Again. Your work is so tidy, and your videoes are so well produced. Just a joy to watch:-) A giant shame that you don`t have more subs, but it will come:-)
Thanks Willy, really appreciate that! 👍
Great repair my mate Steve 😊
😁 thanks Cuthbert!
Good job. Love the MI shirt!!!
Hey Steve! Really love your channel ! I'm also repairing stuff, but not at an advanced level as you. I want to practice using copper wires / jumper wires as you showed. But I'm unable to find those, any idea what I should search to find those? + Isolant for the wires? Thanks !!
Oh finally a restore without a MOD! xD Nice job
Steve is the type of guy you love for his singing skills and just appreiate he can fix about anything.
I have literally no interest in game boys. Or electronics. But I am now finding myself binge watching all of your videos.
"GETTIN THERE LEWIS!" thats what I heart everytime he says get in there haha
Nice work mate 👏🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate! 👍
Nice fix stez. Where did you get that UV light? I like it. Thanks
The fact that your boy dave is still there is what i check about every video you make like this lol.
stupid game(boy)
Just recently discovered your channel
Love your energy and the way you go about these repair projects.
Nice tee shirt By the way
Another great video, o how I do miss my old GB, have to try and convince the wife that the kids really need one
🤣 your kids definitely need one, Morten! 😁
love your videos!
man do i enjoy your videos.
Great job Steve
Thanks Jon! 👍
Nice! Another repair channel! :)
Great job! Subbed!
Glad that you managed to fix that Gameboy :)
Though some times I wonder what people do to their consoles for them to end with such damage =/
By the way nice ending with that classic ABBA song :D
Great fix Steve! We love your channel and let's hope we get a chance to insult sword fight and beat the sword master again in the new Return to Monkey Island!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!
Yep, genuinely can't wait! It's gonna be awesome! 😍
I love your channel!!!
"I made it worse by trying to fix it"... Incredibly relatable.. Consider me a new subscriber!
Missed opportunity.... "I'm blue daba dee daba da"
The maniacal laugh cracks me up, I do that all the time when I unexpectedly fix something :D
I've still got mine in the loft sadly water damaged ...
As a little kid (probably 89/90s I dropped it in the bath whilst playing it
To my surprise it actually worked
So, silly me assumed (aged 7 or so) though, "oh, they are waterproof"
😔
Yup, found put the hard way that they aren't.
Didn't have the heart 💔 to tell my parents as it was only months old at the time.
I would suggest, when you come across high levels of corrosion on solder pads or vias, to reflow them using new solder and even suck the old solder using a solder pump. I mean you get into all this trouble to repair the stuff and you are doing 100% great. Why don't secure the retro stuff from further corrosion. On the video you repaired the GB carts from ebay, almost all of them had the same pins not soldered correctly by the factory. This would suggest their solder might be problematic. I thing it would be wiser to re solder them instead of just reflowing the old solder.
Really great vids! Keep it up mate!
Lovely to see a smile on your face. 💕
Youre really talented well done
Good repair Steve
Thanks Oz! 👍
Just found you...ninused to repair and modify the Nintendo NES. Great fun!
Nice job !! 👍🏼👍🏼
Never been much of an ABBA fan myself, nor the Gameboy, for that matter. But excellent video nonetheless :) Merci Steve!
😁 thanks esseferio!
That's Neptun in different timelines and positions. Looks like it had a bad start formation.
1st class video to watch thank you take care kind regards from me kenneth🖤🖤🖤👍
Hello, I have the same problem in my nintendo game boy. I think that this video will be a great help. Thanks.
So much nostalgia watching you play Mario world on there. That was my childhood from 7-9 until my brother threw the game boy off a bridge.
😢
Love your video.❤️❤️
Is there a video of the tools you use such as the soldering iron and the magnifying camera?
That Laugh I love to hear the joy in it.
This next period for me is all about studying GameBoy, I want to write an emulator for fun. So this gives a nice hardware view as well :) thanks!
That was AWESOME!
I like .... Your star shaped screws.. to the right ...Solid!
this channel is awesome
I like your humor :D
Hi Steve, do you have a 3d printer too or just the cleaning needles for it? Just discovered your channel, are there 3d printing videos on here too?
