- I've bought a Nintendo Switch off of eBay. It does power on, but doesn't read/play any games ("Game Card Could Not Be Read" Error) and also won't dock and display on the TV.
Let's try and repair it!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

Shia LaBeouf?
Isn't he the guy that was in Transformers? Called Sam! Also when you said the Switch was "Bent" words out my mouth were 'Rage Quit' Then,
You proceeded to say It, Brother Steves think alike. That was a 'Solid' Fix 18:05 for me, I see Dad the Gopher ❤ Get In! ' Nice! ' Yesss!! 😊 👍🏻
That's the one! There was definitely a slight bend on this, probably only a couple of mm, but the rage quit evidence was there! Solid, solid, solid! I'll take that, thanks brother Steve! 😊
@@StezStixFix I'm fairly sure that Switches being bent was just a thing that could happen with the first couple of batches. So it's not necessarily someone who got hit with one too many blue shells, it's just a slight manufacturing "defect". Plenty of Reddit posts from ~5 years ago arguing about it if you want to lower your IQ a bit!
JUST DO IT!
that could be your catchphrase just like Shia
He's brandishing a knife!
Really nice fixes here. Great work! Just found your channel & really enjoying it.
Thanks Steve! Really appreciate that, it means alot! 👍
Shame there wasnt the “perfect” amount of thermal paste 😂
Watch both of your channels, great content

Yup, better than your mediocre and boring fixes
Brilliant, one of your best fixes/videos. The card reader repair was beautiful. Well done Steve 👍👍👍
Thanks Vince! 👍 That means alot mate, really appreciate it. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. It felt really good to see it fully working! 😍
I'm not really experience but most of the time, I try to fix my stuff first before getting a replacement. And it does brings me joy when I manage to fix something.
Great repair! It's so awesome you took the extra time to diagnose the problem with the card reader and do a repair. Impressive work!
Thanks Adam! Yeah, it felt so good to repair the fault on that card reader! Glad I didn't take the easy option of just swapping it out! 👍
Because now you still have a known working part for later diag issues or future replacements.
I get filled with confidence when ever I watch fixing videos, yet ever time i try to fix stuff it all ends up a giant pile of parts and salder
Never seen such clean and solid repairs.
Very sympathetic atmosphere :)
Dude, your Dad humor is off the charts! Love it!
So glad to find clean, witty and at times silly humor. I appreciate that as do others, I'm sure.
Your excitement is awesome.
Takes some serious patience to fix tech like that. Well done, dude. Subbed.
You absolutely smashed this! Amazing job! Well done!
Love seeing you so happy Steve keep up the good work
after years working with board repairs on phones, today I learned something new, excellent reasoning sorting that one out, props to you sir!
Hi Steve. I like most others, happened upon your channel and love the light hearted content and in-depth repairs. Keep up the great work buddy. We, your public love it!!
Such a satisfying fix. Well done. Saving tech from the scrap.
Dude, you have the best repair channel!!
Something oddly relaxing watching these videos. Great content!
you made that usb port change look so easy i really enjoyed this fix steve well done
Thanks Jon, it helped having worked on one quite recently so I was pretty confident! Really happy with how it turned out! 👍
Like others, just came across this channel. Some great repair videos! Love to see you fault find and not just replace the part like with the card reader. Very satisfying! :) Looking forward to going through your old content and to future videos
Thanks Stuart, really appreciate that! 👍
Really neat enameled wire work! Great job Steve!
Very well done jumper-wire job on the card reader. Nice!
Sir, you never did stupid things with this subs and bells etc. I realise in this moment how enjoyable and peacefull this behavior this is! *Thanks* 👍
Love it steve! Trace work is TIDY!!!
Thanks Wayne! Appreciate that buddy! 👍
I love watching your fix videos.. great work Mister 😏👌
You are amazing with those via repairs. Very inspiring. I think.
Your skills and knowledge have significantly increased Steve. You look humble and probably you consider yourself an amateur, but you're definitely looking like a pro already mate. Keep it up!
Thanks Jay! Definitely still an amateur but I'm learning with each fix. I can tell I'm getting better! 👍
Well spotted and a great set of fixes. There is something about the capillary action of vias that holds any corroding agent onto the board ... well done for noticing them. Shame more manufacturers don’t coat their finished boards to protect against such minor damage ..... but then again it makes for some interesting videos. Well done Steve.
Thanks Chris! Really pleased to have spotted that damage and really happy with the trace repair! Felt good to get this working fully! 👍
Great work. That trace repair was something to be proud of, nice and neat.
Thanks Phil! 👍 I was really happy with the trace repair, it couldn't have gone any better I don't think!
Congratulations on the fix Steve. Also well done to getting to 3K subs. Well deserved.
Thanks RB, appreciate that mate! 👍
oh wow, he got recommended yesterday to me with 39K. You obviously doing something right, really enjoying your videos.
Love this video man great fix job on that! GET IN!
Nice find and fix 👍
Excellent job! Very satisfying.

Proper job. Glad it works. I wish I still had mine 😭
Nice fix and nice solder job.
Thanks ComputerTech, appreciate that! 👍
This was very enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
Thanks Stonecold Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Those are some really good looking repairs. I'd be quite chuffed.
Another great job mate.
Your channel blew up!! Nice one Steve! ❤️
😍 cheers mate! 👍
New to your vids. Enjoyed all i have seen so far.
super satisfying finish
I found your channel today and I must say you are one of a kind in this day and age. Great videos! Could I ask what that off-white paste is?
1:17 The best part is: "Buyer will not be disappointed"
Great fix. These Andonstar microscopes have improved so much in the last year.
Thanks Allen! Yeah, really happy with the Andonstar, I don't have experience with any others but it suits my needs perfectly! 👍
hey bud well done ingenuous repair
Thanks Bunny! 👍
Glad you fixed the switch
Just found your channel. And i love it. Brilliant content!

Cheers Chris! Feels good to hit 3k! Thank you 👍
@@StezStixFix I bet i does and well deserved 👍
I took electronics in high school. I wished I paid more attention. Now as an adult, I find it very interesting now!
Perfection Steven, love to see it 💯💯
Thanks Stephen! 👍 😍
i love when you fix something that feeling lol
great card reader repair. I have loads of these which don't work(they go in a pile), so one day I'll use this video to repair them all.
love your humour and your editing btw.
Thanks Chris, really appreciate that! Hope you can get yours working! 👍
@@StezStixFix Are we still talking about the game readers🤭
@@GinandTronics 😂
Brilliant video as always mate. It would of been easy to just swap the reader but I love the fact you was determined to find the fault of the original.
Thanks Dan, I was tempted to leave the working one in but I'm glad I didn't. I was much more satisfying to fault-find and get the original one working 👍
Good job!!!! Congratulations
Thanks Tony! 👍
Very nice work on that game card reader!
Thanks Micro, much appreciated! 👍
i've studied electronics and i don' t like it that much but your videos... nice
Very niceee 👍 Weird those holes had zero connection. Great fix again.
Thanks SpaceGod! 👍
Incredible mate. I was on the floor when you mentioned Dave, the handsome little bugger. The wires through the via, the tidy job, the way you made the port swap look so easy, you're smashing it my dude. Well done 👍👍
Thanks mate, really appreciate it! 👍 Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed this one, it felt so good to get it fully working! I think Dave is my good luck charm... I just hope he doesn't get vacuumed up! 😲
Brilliant job Mr. Bodge. By the way, the via trick isn't a bodge, it's actually a very good way to ensure your wire makes a strong secure bond. I think I showed that on a PS4 repair once. You should be pleased with that result. Also, that chip on the module is a touch ic. Don't hope to buy them though, they cost more than the actual card reader does lol.
Awesome work
😁 cheers mate, appreciate it! I was really happy with the trace repair and I feel it'll be a lasting repair too. I got a real buzz from seeing it working, loved this one! 👍
@@StezStixFix definitely mate, nothing wrong at all with the way you did that. You're definitely getting a lot better at using your noggin to come up with different methods
What a result. You made that look Easy Peasy...
Thanks James! It helped that I'd worked on one quite recently, so I was pretty confident. Very happy with the result! 👍
DAVE!! Omg that's awesome. Thank you for giving him a place of honour!
🤣 thanks Deeran! Dave was a big help in fixing this Switch! He's now my official good luck charm! 😁
Once again… Bravo Sir !!
Also, please give my regards to Dave
Thanks Guy, I'll definitely let Dave know! 😁
Good work sir
Thank you! 😊
Nice fix good job!
Cheers Jimmy! 👍
The switch oled bends easy to this is the first time I’ve seen someone talk about that 😅 👏
Stumbled on your channel and really love how you tackle electronic issues. I learn as you learn. Do you take repair requests? I have a PS1 that has video output that doesn't look great. I also have a ps2 that has a disc read issue, and may or may not have a video output issue. I could mail those over and pay for repair services if you accept USA currency. Keep up the great work Steve.
Great work! Like a boss! 😎 You make it seem easy, but if it was easy everybody would be doing it, and we know that they aren't. Captain Bodge to the rescue!!!
Haha, thanks Pedro! 😁👍
Nice !! See it does catch in lol. I don’t know why more try and fix the cartridge slots.
😁 Thanks Roy!
Good stuff 👏🏼
nice fix on on cam and have a great day
Thanks Joseph!
Nice, excellent video
Nice fix. 👍
Thanks Mick! 😍
This was a really nice fix 😉
Thanks Kiki! 😎
Thanks for the video's , What kind of magnifier do you use ?
Slowly slowly slowly becoming my fav YT channel buddy. You come across as a stand up guy, like I've known you for years. Even my Mrs thought you was funny hahaha
Thanks Beaps, that means a lot mate! Glad the Mrs enjoys it too! 😁
I have no idea why I decided to subscribe to this channel, and why I'm hooked? Probably cos he seems like a cool bloke, or is it because we just like to see things made good? 🤷🏻
That was great fix "excellent!"
Great job 👌
Thanks William! 👍 😊
Great job
Thanks Alvin! 👍
Nice job 👍
Thanks Damien! 👍
Thats so cool how the braided copper soaks up the solder like that.
Lol no matter how much thermal paste someone uses, its not the right amount, so many different opinions on the matter lmao. Amount, technique to apply, how you spread it (or should you in the first place), how to properly re attach the heatsink, you end up doing it wrong somehow.
"Outpu". 🤣 Love it!
Nice!! The cod3r better watch out LOL and it was he who pointed out your improvement in soldering and using hotair. You are certainly a much better and improved technician. Man you make me laugh. A pleasure to watch... Nice!! Nice NICE..!! And nice ONE.
😊 Thanks! I do feel like I'm getting better with each attempt. Practice makes perfect I guess. Although, now I've said that, I'll probably mess up the next one! 😂
1st class video to watch thank you take care kind regards from me kenneth😎💝👍
Hi Steve really enjoying your videos I'm doing my own repairs on my electronics with help from your channel can I ask where you get your parts from your chips etc thanks in advance have a blessed day
Are you interested in doing any soldering basic guides. I keep thinking that it would be very useful knowledge, it would be awesome to have you as a teacher!
Very intieresting! Ive been enjoying your vids!! What are you using towards the end to doc? is that a third party option??
Great video.
As always really enjoyed.
My wife has actually started watching them with me, she doesn't understand much of what's being done but enjoys watching none the less 🙃
I have a nintendo switch with a broken USB c port to change.
Where do you get your ports from Please?
Hi Antony, glad you both enjoy the videos! The ports I bought from Replace Base. You can probably get them cheaper from eBay/Aliexpress, but I've used Replace Base lots of times and their stuff is always great quality! 👍
Really enjoyed this repair, anyone know what make is that switch dock?
Nice job Steve 👍 I'm glad you have kept Dave? Hi Dave? Wish I had the Confidence to try and fix stuff like you are my hero and you are like a dad to me as you show me the right way to do things thank you dad? Lol what type of flux do you use I only have the stuff that you brush on is that where I'm going wrong with my repairs do you rate the flux you brush on or not please advise me dad!?
😁 thanks son! I havent tried the brush on stuff, but the flux I use always seems to work well for me and I wouldn't personally use the brush on stuff (although I have seen others using it, and it seems to work ok). I'd go for a cheaper syringe one to start with, like the Kingbo RMA 218. You can usually pick it up from eBay for a few £'s 👍
Great work! I think incorrect thermal paste will catch on. Subbed :)
Thanks Michael, really appreciate the sub! I might get some tee-shirts with my new thermal paste slogan on! 😁
Hello, great work!! can you please tell me what flux do you use and where to buy it ? thank you.
what a great video!
Get in there!
Just subscribe ! This is good / satisfaction content! Idk how else to say but it’s like watching chiropractor videos but of fixing CPUs and tinkering 😌
Good job! Any link for the flux syringe?
8mins mark - luvly tune.
Just spotted the Logitech Z5500 speakers in the background. What a sound system.
Cool 😎 good to know that the last switch had good parts in it ☺️
And then you went and fixed the original one. Great job 👌
Thanks William! Yeah, the game card reader is definitely good! Happy to have fixed the original one though! 😊
good job...btw...you can't see UV light. That is a visible spectrum light source for curing materials such as that.
