nonsense dude, don't listen to this clown to get an accurate view of Christianity, just read the bible yourself. The bible condones slavery end of story, the bible is gross and immoral.
(there are many examples for all of these things but I'm too lazy to find all the verses)
the bible is full of wack ass blood magic: Leviticus 1:5-9
      poor sexist hygiene: Leviticus 15:16-28
      anti-homosexuality: Leviticus 18:22
      Super Jealousy: Leviticus 26:14-39
idk random magic test to test adultery, would be cool to do a test with this and systematically destroy the entire Jewish and Christian religion: Numbers 5:11- 31
The bible also claims the Egyptian gods exist strangely: Numbers 33:4
      Murders non-virgin women: Deuteronomy 22:13-21
after attacking a city unprovoked Moses tells the Israelites to kill everyone except the virgin women: Numbers 31: 15-18
And there is a bunch of slavery condoning in the bible (not to mention sex slavery). You can start with Exodus 21 but just look it up on the interwebs... it's well documented.

@@clearlyclear400 Everything you claimed was absolutely wrong. First of all stating that you're too lazy to find all the verses tells me either you don't know what you're talking about, you're too lazy to actually research what you typed, which is apparent, or both.
You claimed that the Bible is "gross and immoral" even though most of them don't fit that description anyway if they were true...
Blood Magic: I can see by this comment that you don't know anything about the Old Testament because if you did maybe you would realize that sorcery of any kind is prohibited. What is mentioned is a sacrifice which was practiced by the Israelites to atone for sin, not "blood magic" which is strictly prohibited by the Old Testament Law.
Poor sexist hygiene: I assume you meant sexual and not "sexist", so I will respond as though you said poor sexual hygiene. Both male and female had to bathe after an emission, so neither is it sexist or poor sexual hygiene. And if you are referring to a woman's period making her unclean that is not sexist, blood is not something that should be touched anyways...
Anti-Homosexuality: Wow! You got one right. Yes, Judaism as well as Christianity prohibits same sex relationships because it defiles the covenant of marriage. It is not very hard to use common sense that two men and two women are not meant to have sex together. The anus is not a sexual organ. That should be enough reason to realize that homosexuality is not natural. Although it is condemned, homosexuality is only one among many sexually immoral practices. If you actually bother to read all of Leviticus instead of googling random verses you would realize how many things are considered sexually immoral.
Super Jealousy: I am not sure how this qualifies as being "gross or immoral", but I'll still respond. God is a jealous God because He alone created all things. He is worthy of honor and praise, so when humans bow down to things He created instead of Him, He is jealous for a right reason. I would not expect you to revere God as an unbeliever, but when you realize God's perfection you'd understand why He ALONE is worthy of our praise.
Bitter Drink: When you make an argument you probably should use the unsure language you did when you said "idk random magic test". Considering you said idk I automatically assume that you did not even care to research this topic which doesn't look good on you when making a bold accusation. This had nothing to do with the drink itself, God would protect the woman if she was pure, however if she was not, God would not allow her to bear children.
Claiming other gods existed: Although the verse you provided didn't even say anything about other gods, Every Jew and Christian knows that the Bible mentions other gods. This is not because God (the only God, not one among many) says that the Egyptians worshipped other gods. This does not mean that they are real entities, however it displays how people believed that their idols were actual being which they were NOT. So no, there are no other gods.
Kill non-virgins: No, it has to do with stoning an adulterer not a non-virgin if you would have read verse 21.
Attack unprovoked city: I can see you didn't read the entire book. The Midianites hired someone to curse Israel which is why they killed all of the men.
Slavery: you must not have watched the video. Slavery does not mean the same thing as is the African slave trade. Nothing about biblical slavery is immoral. I'll say no more on this subject because that's literally what this video is for.
From now on, maybe instead of making large claims about something you know nothing about how about you actually read the Bible instead of googling random verses on the internet without understanding the historical context of the matter. It is honestly just embarrassing to you.

@@jacobtaylor5848 I have read every word from the Torah, which is where I've quoted from.
Blood Magic: The point isn't really that some magical effect occurred (even though--especially as a scapegoat offering--magical effects would occur like purging your sins) but that people would sprinkle blood around 7 times or something and rub blood on their right toe and brow etc to please their god. And I don't know what you would consider Sorcery but many people in the bible had magical abilities: Samson, Elijah, Elisha, Moses and Aaron.
Poor Sexist Hygiene: I meant Sexist
      Anti-Homosexuality: That's sad
Super Jealousy: idk if you read the passage I cited but long story short, he said he would commit genocide if you stopped believing... so that's bad
Egyptian Gods: "While the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn whom YHWH had fatally struck among them. YHWH had also executed judgments against their gods."
I don't know what executing judgment is other than killing... which would imply that they were alive at some point.
Murdering Non-Virgin Women: No... The verse begins describing a man and woman about to consummate their marriage, and when the man finds out that she isn't a virgin they stone her to death. It never mentioned adultery, but specifically mentioned prostitution for when she lived with her father. They also murder Adulterers which I guess is okay with you, but I'd disagree.
Attacking a City Unprovoked: Um I didn't know the king of some land asking someone to curse other people (which balaam never did btw) is reason to genocide the kingdom, and keep all the virgin women as sex slaves which you conveniently decided to gloss over.
If there is nothing immoral about the slavery in the bible then would you become my slave under biblical law? I think it's immoral to own anyone as property but that's just me.

The Hebrew term we translate as "property" is actually a mistranslation. In the original Hebrew the term actually refers to "production output". This is why the ESV translation renders the verse as:

The key to understanding the second part about the slave being a property is to compare it to verse 19 of the same chapter. In verse 19, the aggressor is expected to pay financial compensation for wages lost due to injuries he inflicted on the victim. In the case of a slave, the issue of wage loss does not apply because it is the master, who is responsible for the injury, that loses. The NIV translation supports this explanation. The translation says that the master should not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two.

Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. In those days, that task was reserved for the lowest of slaves. He was sold for 30 pieces of silver by someone whose feet he washed. 30 pieces of silver was the going rate for slaves at that time. "Thou shall not enslave a human being." Can't say that. Much of the slavery in those days was in the form of what we would call a contracted worker. It's only problematic if you assume that "slavery" means slavery in the modern sense. It was a critical aspect of their economy and slaves were often part of the family. Every time someone did something wrong they'd have to travel to Jerusalem and visit the High Priest, who'd have to perform a ritual, and God would have to judge. And if the Jews were rebelling against God by serving other gods, which Israel/Judah often did, then it may be the case that God would shield himself from them and those rituals would not work. I don't think this case is that complicated, if the slave dies within a few days, then we say the killer should have realized he was too harsh and could have killed him. If he lives longer then that, then the slave owner didn't likely intend to kill him.
Is it perfect justice? No. But neither is anything during Satan's reign (Luke 4: 5-8). God is making lemonade with the lemons his creation gave him by rebelling against him in the first place and acting like a bunch of baboons.

One man hurts another and he must take care of him until he is well, paying him his daily wages to make up for lost work (18-19). In the same way, the slave owner has already paid of his slave's debts, and so it is his own lost laborer for a few days for a debt already paid for. This passage is equating a freed man and a slave man as having equal rights, not only a freed and enslaved, but also a male and a female as having equal rights. Not only that, but the next verses then talk about a pregnant woman who's child gets hurt (22-25), giving even the unborn the same rights as the already born. Treating all people as equal: freed or slaved, male or female, born and unborn."

Trajectory hermeneutics can be used to explain why men marrying female slaves (right hand possesses) was condoned by the Quran considering the context of the culture in which islam was revealed. Sexual relations were considered by 7th century Arabs as natural, casual, ubiquitous, non-taboo and their understandings of intercourse were even ahead of modern liberal standards of the western world. The mindset surrounding slaves and sex was not separate nor taboo, though the concept of free will, work ethics, labour and social construct of ownership has changed drastically and will continue to change. islam did not prohibit slavery as it would not have been achieved by a culture that normalised it and the general collective consciousness of the societies would not have embraced it. Instead, islam encouraged emancipation (quran 24:33, 2:177, 90:13, 4:92, 58:3) and treating ‘what the right hand possesses’ with fairness and prescribes gifting them with compensation (quran 4:24, 4:25, 4:36, 24:33) until the time would come that social perception will change.
in attempt to not alienate the first recipients of islam (the companions) whom were integral to the survival and spread of islam and prevent it from forever becoming forgotten, the Quran did not outright ban slavery as this would have been detrimental to their survival instead, the quran depended on the evolution of humanity where it will actualise their potential to be able to forbid this, ultimately making slavery haram.
thus islam set a trajectory by placing parameters on their practices rather than lose focus of the actual mission of spreading the message of the oneness of allah by paying attention to establishing social changes (irrelevant-this wasn’t the prophet’s mission, this was gonna happen eventually after his death anyway), knowing these social changes will occur with time, deeming this culture (slavery, among other things that are allowed but not encouraged) will become forbidden and un-islamic once it dies out,

    • @IslamCritiqued
      @IslamCritiqued  Před 3 lety +4

That theory is hilarious, given the Quranic conception of paradise treats women exactly the same as the Quran in the culture in which it was revealed. It seems Allah failed to progress. "islam set a trajectory by placing parameters on their practices" curiously, that trajectory included sexual intercourse with one's s*l*a*v*e*s as well as one's multiple wives. Allah and Muhammad- always looking out for the men.

      @zwayra6903 Před 3 lety +2

Islam Critiqued that theory is key, it is the basis under which certain verses can become abrogated. when studying islam it's key to understand that sharia was built in a way to allow flexibility and is malleable. for example, a pre-islamic common practice among quraish was to sacrifice 100 camels in place of a son as compensation for murder of an innocent life, islam came along and accepted this 100 camel sacrifice, it's not to say that the prophet didn't understand that there were places outside saudi deserts where camels didn't exist, i'm talking sweeden, china, Australia, lmao how can you sit and say that islamic laws are divine revelation as opposed to only put in place to address certain issues that a particular society is facing? how can you apply these laws to the rest of the world? there is a distinction between divine revelation and the relevance of the rulings of it's content.
similarly, verse 8:60 COMMANDS preparing horses as military defense, is that to say that not using horses in our modern days in the miitary is un-islamic? no! because the majority of muslims aren't i*s*i*s, we don't read the quran too literally and we understand that certain verses were only revealed to address issues that a certain group of people was facing, deeming relevant only for them.
in line with this arguement, slavery was condoned because it was relevant to that day and age, not because slavery was intended. sex with slaves was a n.o.r.m.a.l thing once upon a time, there was once a time not even that long ago where you can go to the shop and buy a human being just like how you can buy an apple, it was normalised not just in Mecca of the 7th century but all around the globe and for long millennials up until very recently, who knows if 1000 years from now people are gonna look back and vilify us for having a government or paying taxes or treating cancer with chemotherapy and radiation and burning fossil fuels, it wasn’t Mohammads job to change their social norms with the limited time and resources he had, he was tortured enough as it was for introducing all these new religious ideas and discouraging certain practices so he left a lot of things up to the future generations to change, a Hadith talks about how the entry of an agricultural tool into ones home brings nothing but evil, does this mean Mohammad banned agriculture? No! But he put the safety of his people with a hunter-gather, warrior, tribe-dependent lifestyle’s safety first and recognised what doesn’t go with their lifestyle that would put them in danger if they were to practice it. Mohammad also said “soon Allah will open for u the kingdoms, and changes in Muslim generations will come, and with that many changes” I’m not defending slavery, I’m just trying to put my shoes in a world that normalised it-and so did the Quran. Also, sex in heaven is made lawful (halal) just as sex between a husband and wife is made lawful so there’s nothing wrong with striving to earn it, and to enjoy it without guilt. People will either complain that the Quran offers too much sexual freedom in the cases where it’s made lawful (wife, heaven, right hand possesses) or complain that it deprives people of a natural human necessity when it’s made unlawful (extra-/pre-marital), and women are either ‘oppressed’ for being told to cover up or they’re ‘objectified’ when they’re given sexual liberties, so the Quran can never truly win unless you want it to. and one more thing, 'right hand possess' doesn't just talk about slaves, it can mean children and orphans and inanimate objects under your responsibility so be weary of this in different verses.

So if it were really true, at least a male servant would serve a man and a female servant a woman. Now that would seem moral, but a man and a woman? Genuine question, why didn’t God simply ban slavery? We know how harmful it is, even if it was normal at that time. Also do Christian texts ever talk about having sex with female slaves? If so, did God ever ban sexual slavery in Christianity? I am doing some research and would like to be pointed to some credible sources if you don’t mind. All the best :)

He gave him a simple test of obedience. And he disobeyed because "she made me do it." The Law of Moses was for the ancient nation of Israel. God knew it was not a "law for all time" like the Muslim idea of Mohammed's law. The Law of Moses was part of God's covenant with Israel which was a conditional covenant. When Israel broke the covenant God eventually ended it and then made the New Covenant. The New Covenant is not with a fleshly nation but a spiritual nation, and likewise we have a greater Law, the Law of the Christ. While the Mosaic Law was a set of rules, the Law of Love is based on principles.
"Do not you people owe anybody anything except to love one another; for the one who loves others has fulfilled the law. For the law code, 'You must not commit adultery, You must not murder, You must not steal, You must not covet,' and whatever other commandment there is, is summed up in this word, namely, 'You must love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does not work evil to one's neighbor; therefore, love is the law's fulfillment." - Romans 13: 8-10, The Bible.
That the Law of Moses was imperfect was explained by Jesus when he said that Moses made an exception for their hard-heartedness of divorcing their wives, but that that was not what God intended (Matthew 19: 7-9). Likewise, the rest of the Law was created to help them live more godly lives, but God knew they would reject it if God expected too much of them. As it was they often left the Law to follow the God's of the nations. Back then the air was more saturated with the law of the jungle. Take the Assyrians for example, who skinned captives alive, hunted humans for sport, and kept human heads as trophies.

    .....
Love is an action. Feed the hungry, house the homeless, father the orphan, and protect the defenseless and vulnerable.
Read the Word for yourself, not only relying on others for guidance. Pray for guidance.Yahushua/Yeshua - His Hebrew name who is usually called (Jesus) taught to keep the whole Word. Including the Law/Torah. Matthew 5:17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [g]the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [h]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [i]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Read 1 John. John tells us that sin is lawlessness, and that we must keep the commandments. Trust in the atonement of Yahushua/Yeshua who is usually called Jesus, and keep God (YHWH)'s whole Word/commandments. Revelation 12:17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. • @sjk7467

Seems ridiculous to say sweeping statements about Muslims. They "can't defend their own religion". I don't see any religion that has adequately defended itself, especially in the question of "is there adequate evidence to conclude that the god of my holy book, or any god for that matter, exists?" If you have I would love to see it. I actively seek this stuff out because lots of people seem to believe it and if there actually is sufficient I want to hear it. if all you have though is the same things that have been said for centuries, don't bother because I have already heard them and don't find them convincing unless you have some new evidence or spin on them. but I see all religions having people who make efforts at these things. You made multiple sweeping statements about Muslims that are pretty gross in my opinion. Most of these things you're saying about the Quran, I would say about the Old and New Testament. I would also say similar things about the Quran obviously.
God knew the way this would be translated. He knew that that translation of his word would be used for centuries to defend the practice of slavery and continue it. He could have worded it in another way that could not be easily translated to mean that beating your slave is acceptable. Regardless, slavery itself is despicable. Let's say you completely fix the problems with beating slaves. Having them at all is a problem and this is explicitly condoned multiple times and never to my knowledge prohibited, at least through my readings. You will likely say it was regulated, never condoned. But is a regulation of some forms of one thing (esp when they know this will be taken as moral truth) not condoning the other forms of this thing? We regulate alcohol sales for example. Alcohol cannot be sold to people under 21. this is tacitly condoning sales of alcohol to those 21 and up. plenty of things are outright prohibited here that would change human society. It could, and should have happened here. It also says for slaves to obey even harsh masters. So it's not just bad suggestions/rules for masters. "The slave is let go if abused" how about all slaves be let go because slavery is disgusting? That's a terrible regulation. Why is god basing his laws around what humans believe at the time when he clearly made laws about lots of other things that humans still accepted?
You talk about how they didn't have the same technology, culture, etc that we have today. This is basically the context argument. The context makes it okay. But it definitely does not because having the slaves at all is wrong in any context. Slavery is just flat out bad in all contexts. It violates fundamental human rights that ought to be respected.
I do appreciate that you're at least trying to defend the things you believe in some way, but I definitely don't think you've hit the mark. I wouldn't say it's your fault. The material is the issue. But you should definitely humble yourself and stop acting like there are no people in your opposition doing what you're doing for your holy book. Comes off very smug and dismissive.

    • @IslamCritiqued
      @IslamCritiqued  Před rokem

"The context makes it okay." The heart of your misconception. Passage like this are never given as part of the divine design. They don't have God's stamp of approval. They're laws given in the context of a fallen culture. The goal is to move redemptively from that. Jesus spoke many years ago about laws given because of the hardness of hearts. Concession, not design. You have to look deeper for the latter.

And you know perfectly what they mean by "Allahs Mercy" when stoning to death become perceived as an act full of mercy.

    1. This gentleman came off very cocky and condescending towards Muslims (not very Christ like). I understand Muslim debaters may do the same, but that’s not what we’re suppose to do. Would be nice to see someone not dropping down to others level.

But I concluded it is almost the exact same response muslims give for all the verses non muslims point out (“kill all who oppose” “slaves” “men can have 4 wives”).
Lol y’all don’t realize we’re the same. If Islam and Christianity were so “logical” and had evidence that could not be refuted… well everyone would either be Christian or Muslim.
