It could've been a great game if they'd at least remake the remaining Pokémon models from scratch and improve on the animations like they said they would, but they lied to us so they blew any chance the games had of being good.

Remember Pokémon contests? Remember the PWT? Remember the battle facilities that weren’t the battle maison with different coats of paint? Remember White Forest/Black City? Remember difficulty keys? Remember events that weren’t just some guy handing you a Pokémon? Z-moves? Mega evolutions? The National Dex?
I’m tired of Pokémon cutting corners and throwing away mechanics. Mark my words, dynamaxing will be gone by gen 9. Viva la Animal Crossing

It's more ok to cut mechanics than Pokémon. Changing mechanics like Megas or z-moves is expected, because they need to change the meta and the strategy. That's development! I know that you probably love Megas but you need to move on. The real problem is the pokedex.

I have lived in Japan for a long time and it seems people here are upset about the pokedex cut too. I am not speaking for everyone in Japan, but a lot of Japanese people on the internet seem to be upset about Gamefreak removing Pokemon. It is not just westerners that are concerned. This is a huge deal for two reasons, the first reason is that in Japan people rarely vocal about their opinions publicly because they don't like to start conflict. If they are very passionate about something and tell people their opinion publicly, it must be very important. Pokemon is a very popular video game series in Japan and a lot of people care about it. We want Gamefreak and Nintendo to put as much effort into these games as they can to make it the best quality game it can be.
They could have definitely added all of the Pokemon and had no real reason to cut them. The Switch can definitely handle 1000+ Pokemon models, it is much more powerful than the 3ds and that could handle 800+ Pokemon plus their walking/running animations. They already had every old Pokemon model from Sun and Moon to use and just had to update it graphic wise. Plus they already had the 151 Kanto models finished in Let's Go.
They could have put Sword & Shield as a priority and had the best team working on the game but they didn't, instead they side lined Pokemon in favor of a new game and had their secondary team developing Pokemon. They didn't hire enough people to work on the game and treated it like it wasn't important.
The second reason this is a problem, is that when they realized they weren't going to have enough time to update every Pokemon model and put it into the game, they chose not to hire more people and do it. Instead they came up with an unconvincing excuse all so that they wouldn't have to spend any extra time, money, or effort into developing the game. They figured they could get away with cutting content because they figured people would buy the game no matter what terrible decisions they make. They think saving money is more important than making a great game.
I am not saying everything about these games is bad. I am not blaming the developers, they did the best they could being understaffed and rushed for time. I think Sword and Shield had the potential to be great games with some really good new features. Unfortunately due to bad choices and response to fans, that potential was damaged. But I am disappointed with the direction Gamefreak has been going with the Pokemon games recently and this terrible policy. If you don't care about anything Gamefreak does and want to buy Pokemon games anyway that is fine. I am just saying my concerns and other people's for the future of Pokemon. I also hope people don't threaten to harm Masuda Junichi or any other higher member Gamefreak and the Pokemon company.
Corporate greed is one of the biggest issues people have with this whole thing. It is a major problem with a lot of big companies.
Gamefreak is planning on cutting a ton of Pokemon that people love from their future games because they don't want to bother hiring more people or spending more time and money to make the games fun for everyone. It's about more than just the fact that they are not including all of the Pokemon.
Gamefreak has been prioritising other games over Pokemon for a while now and have not been putting nearly enough effort into recent games.
They have been making games with unfinished areas like the train station in X and Y or no post game. They have started handing out legendary and mythical Pokemon as gifts instead of introducing them through in-game events that allow us to catch them in a new area of the game and add to their lore.
And sometimes they add extra things in a version two of the game but we shouldn't have to pay for a whole other game just so we can get a finished version. But it seems like for every step forward they take another two steps back. Some people are pretending not to notice these these things and are still looking through rose colored glasses. I understand that people want to see the best in all Pokemon games but in reality the games have some large flaws and arent perfect. The problem with that is that it allows Gamefreak to get way with almost anything, that is partially why there was a drop in quality. People criticize certain parts of a game because they want them to be fixed in the next game. The other reason for some parts of the games being unfinished is that they are very persistent with yearly releases.
They don't listen to their fans for the most part and that has to change. Pokemon is an important franchise that deserves a super high quality game with a ton of time and effort like Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey. The semi-open world areas of Sword & Shield is a good idea and the Pokemon in the over-world is a great new feature. But at the same time they got rid if very popular and creative things like Mega Evolution in favor of one time gimmicks. And if you like those gimmicks that is fine, but it shows that they are not listening to what the majority of fans want.
And now they are giving us an unfinished product that has even less than their 3ds games did. That is not acceptable and that is the biggest problem, Nintendo and Gamefreak as a company think it is okay to put less effort into Pokemon games because we will buy them any way. People want to let them know that we are tired of our favorite games being set to the side . We want them to prioritize Pokemon for once. Sword & Shield deserve to be the best quality Pokemon games they can be.
Exactly and it annoys me that people are defending this because the 3ds could handle 800+ people and this is the switch there's no excuse game freak is just being lazy..... Again the series has gotten downhill ever since x and y and each new game it's getting worse because people still support the games it's time to put our foot down and it's time for game freak too actually care about pokemon again. So pretty much boycott this game DO NOT BUY IT

It's really upsetting to see what happened to Pokemon. Apparently Japan fanbase are more upset than the TPC and GF expected. They even cancelled an event. Nintendo of America takes refunds despite that not being part of their policy.

I expected them to remove like 200 but they went full force on that cut. They didn't even care if a Pokemon is part of a duo, trio etc.

@@bradenhunt8062 Basically the whole scenario started when Gamefreak tried to casually sneak in the fact that you'll only be able to transfer Pokemon that appears in the Galardex to Sword & Shield. Considering we'll have to pay for Pokemon Bank, Pokemon Home, & Nintendo Switch online to even transfer to begin with, everyone has a right to be upset. And it's not like they gave a justified reason for cutting them either. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Dynamax is a interesting, if super lazy, mechanic. Nobody minded it all that much during the Direct trailer. All the backlash is coming from the removal of pokemon and other mechanics from the game.
@@kargaroc386 IMHO, I never liked such mechanics as mega evolutions, but I preferred that kind of mechanic at dynamax, at least mega could in some cases change type giving more depth to fight; as far as we know dynamaxing is just a boost to stats. Plus giant Pokémon sounds just an excuse to not implement more Pokémon models (and make kids shout "ohh look my giant Pokémon").
Beside this personal consideration, I do agree that the main problem still is in the erasing of the National dex.
@@jacopocardinale8292 All you need to have giant pokemon is a vertex shader to scale the model up from the default, a pixel shader to give it the red glow, and some really quickly made cloud models to have the floating turds above.
@@kargaroc386 yep, I know. That's why I was speaking about new models, dynamax just prevent shaping new models (as megas would) adding a similar mechanic (a boost to stat to only one party member). Already been said that even animations are lacking the quality they mentioned.
I dunno how they can motivate all this with "animating and balancing would be impossible". If it was real, other A rated games would be an anomaly.
I think that they live in their closed little world blindfolded, sure that Pokémon mark grants money. Let's go was already a fanservice not so well made speaking of game play, but I think we all looked forward that waiting for the real game. And now this... Maybe we should all pass this game on to show that it's not only a matter of brand.

You got it reversed. Gamefreak couldn't even fit Johto into the gameboy cartridge because Gamefreak. They asked for Iwata's help. With his coding magic, Iwata made a compression tool that fit Johto in the cartridge with more room to spare, hence, Kanto was in Gen 2.

Just give the series to Nintendo already. Game Freak clearly doesn't care about it anymore. If Nintendo can put the same effort into Pokemon as they did breath of the wild, Gen 9 would be a masterpiece.

Those are not the animations we looked for. The fact that this mess of a game has 20 hours of playtime, ridiculous post game, bland pokemon designs especially the box legendaries, horrendous animations (literally the clapping animation in the postgame), this game has given us less than everything it has promised us.Everything is gone - Mega Evolution that had no problems whatsoever (had cool designs, new forms, but now everything just grows big) was scrapped, national dex is gone with no real reason to, so much cut content and people still want to defend this?
It is a game that could have so much potential had Gamefreak taken more risks and actually listened to fans. Makes me wonder if they even have any love for this series anymore, or just see it as a cash grab. Won't be surprised if Ultra Sword and Shield or some BS like that gets announced with no improvements whatsoever. When will you realise that such treatment on franchises people have grown to love is unacceptable?
This was supposed to bring Pokemon forward. This was supposed to welcome the first Pokemon titles and the eighth generation onto the Switch. It was supposed to be something new, a breath of fresh air, something that would completely change the games for the better, but instead we get this mess. The same old system, the same old things, just with an empty area that is "Open World" to make this game look better.
For a franchise that is so loved amongst the community here, maybe you should just go back to the drawing board and actually listen to us for once. Otherwise it's just going to make me lose hope as a trainer who's stuck with this game since the days of Pokemon Red, and have enjoyed every single generation except this.
Shigeru Miyamoto says that "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad," which I think is quite ironic in this case. We deserve more as consumers.

I'm agree with everything you said, except for that "mega evolution cool design" thing. Megas were gross and deformed, but surely better than some of the new gigantamax forms.

Ik how u feel bro. My favorite Pokémon Oshawott is not in the game 🙁. But that doesn't stop me from buying Sword and Shield. I like playing Pokemon, so I want to continue playing the series. But hey, Gamefreaks said that there won't be a new Pokemon game planned for next year and will continue to update Sword and Shield. It could be a chance that they'll also bring back some Pokemon back. Maybe some of ur Favorite Pokémon could return.
But at the end, after no Natural dex thingy, I'm really am disappointed with Gamefreaks.

All Pokemon have a right to be in the game, but Game Freak is too concerned with rushing the game out in time for the holiday season to care. As far as I'm concerned, US/UM are the last games in the series.
USUM were trash too. Much more worse than sword and shield so far. And that says a lot.
@@Zenniel64 first SWSH are not out yet we don't know everything the game has to offer and second I've played every main seires pokemon game and USUM is my second favorite game it had a really good post game and the ultra necrozma fight was really hard and really fun, but that's just my opinion but tye one thing you cannot deny is that people are different so different people will like different things which is very true with pokemon
Uncle Zen USUM weren’t bad games, the problem is that they were copies of sun and moon right after sun and moon came out.
@@RubbledMC agree. Bw2 and W2 were sequels. USUM werent cash grabs but they just needed to do more. USUM are more worth playing than SM but still they needed to add more other than riding pokemon inside the world with mantine and outside with the legendary. DIfficulty was way better and was really good. Taking pictures with your pokemon was nice but not needed. Other than that usum were really good.
@JuanDa 76 I'm not 100% agreeing to past posts. But I still find SnS a bit better than US and UM just because of the wild area. I personally play pokemon to immerse in their word and play as with imaginary rules such as Nuzlokce to keep it entertaining. And I find the interaction within the pokemon world more immersive in SnS. The camping helps too.
If you say either is better I couldn't argue it because I couldnt get myself to fully experience either. I got bored before the ending. But I would like to give SnS another try. Sun and moon I wouldnt even try it again.

it seems like dynamaxed Pokemon are all scaled to be the same height anyways... if they would respect the actual sizes, then that Steelix would have been many times larger than that Arcanine, but in the video the Seetlix even seemed a bit smaller

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were the best of Sun and Moon. The only issue is that they should have just released Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and never released the originals. Sun and Moon feel hollow compared to the US/UM counterparts.

@@andrexuful IIRC they split Team 2 into 2 smaller teams. Team 2a worked on SwSh, Team 2b worked on US UM. Then when Team 2b finished SwSh Team 2b then went on to work on LGPE after which 2b rejoined 2a.

You realize that they alr eady have all of the models for every single Pokemon, including move animations and walking animations, right?
All they'd have to do is get creatures inc to improve the lighting and shading like they had for every other model in Sword and Shield, and then render the Pokemon into the game while setting up their stats. They wouldn't have to remake moves every single time or anything, most of it would just be copy and past. This wou;d take very very little time to actually do, considering they actually have until 2020 to do it, since that's when Pokemon Home releases. This would take very little time, which makes me think they were being honest when they said they took Pokemon out for balance reasons

I know in future iterations (if new generations are even possible in the future), yes it will be understandable that not every pokemon can be included, but they shouldnt have decided this for the first home console game, especially since we are still under 1000 'mons and I dont see Galar introducing more than 70-80 new ones.

Literally me, after Pokémon Home announcement I got out my old DS games and started trying to complete Platinum/HeartGold to fulfill transfer requirements/get more favorites that I could eventually move to Home then Shield.

I know it's a lot of work and therefore manhours/wages to make models/animations of so many Pokémon, but... This is an awful stance to take. The single biggest grossing media franchise can't manage to do it? Seriously!?
Game balance is a poor excuse. We have had rules for more formal battle formats which limited us to certain regional dexes before, or simply banlists for example of mythicals.
This is really hurting my enthusiasm for these games and I can't say I'm really looking forward to them as much anymore... :(

Ok my comment here blew up a bit, so just gonna tempor my knee-jerk response with the fact that I'm still looking forward to these new games. The new Pokémon look great, the region looks beautiful, the word area seems so rich... and best of all it's in my home country haha.
I... just really want to be able to see all my Pokémon I've raised and played with over the years be able to transfer to this game. I know development is really not easy, but it is close to a lot of dedicated fans' hearts.
So, I really hope Game Freak keep us informed on this - are they going to update it soon with data for all the other Pokémon to be able to come over? I know a lot of people want this game sooner rather than later so I'm cool with that if the update happens.
That's gonna be the big question on everyone's minds now... Will there be such an update?

It wouldn't be a little delay, it would probably take a year. Game freak knew that, and realized that the people complaining now would just complain anyway if they announced a delay, because the people complaining aren't real fans. Better to get rid of them now than delay the game and force the actual fans to wait than give in and lose players anyway.
@@emc246 I wouldn't say I'm not a real fan... I've followed Pokémon since I was in primary school in the 90s and still love it! I'm not just going to give up on the franchise now. They've had some ups and downs, like not being able to bridge the gap from the 2nd and 3rd Gen when ruby and sapphire came out, and not having all the old Pokémon there either... (Though these were more of tech difficulties rather than development time constraints) but I hung in there and sure enough, fire red and leaf green came out and now finally we have virtual console releases of the old games that are compatible! If they announced now that the other Pokémon would join the game later, I'd be totally happy with that, but right now it's a bummer.
I just hope it all works out ok again! :D
