  • French farmers demanding just prices and less bureaucratic red tape began lifting blockades across the country on Friday after the government made further concessions.
    President Emmanuel Macron’s government has pledged it will scrap plans to raise tax contributions on tractor diesel, ease pesticide regulations, and put a pause on new fallow land rules and additional safety checks on food imports.
    “We’re not 100 per cent satisfied. It’s certain that there have been measures taken, it’s always better than nothing, but hey, we’re not going to give up,” said Guillaume Chantereau.
    The pause in the protest will bring some respite ahead of France’s agricultural show, which takes place every year at the end of February.
    Meanwhile, the protests that started in France have now spread to other European countries - including Belgium, where Dutch and Belgian farmers banded together to block the border between Belgium and the Netherlands on Friday.

      Subsidies are part of the problem, they become dependant on the state in order to survive. As for being rich, sure thing, big enterprises grow rich, as it is the case in every sector. I can assure you nobody with less than 400Ha can sustain a high lifestyle. The amount of money one has to invest in machinery, let land aside, in order to make a living is crazy. Other businesses require much less to turn more profit. Farming is something you have to like in order to do, because it really doesn't make any economical sense

      @freeflowtrader Před 7 měsíci +1

      Nvm I lied, I did my research so it might be red tape, zoning and restructure costs farmers cannot get benefits and makes its life harder. They don’t get government welfare because they don’t have money to restructure their farm into environmentally standard conditions. Environmentally friendly fertilizer? All electric farm vehicle? Proper worker working hour and benefits? Low emission methods and farm facilities? *spit* does these farmer looks like they can afford it? It should just be handed to them for free, liberal governments.
      so low margin income things like farm goods aren’t making much of anything. Farm isn’t big source of revenue, but it’s kinda important, what if some stupid events triggers another food inflation….but these farms are so outdated production isn’t exactly keen to cover food securities, so it’s whatever, it’s not like it an individual operation could suddenly 3x the production based on demands, unless they can, that would be interesting, the real food production this world can offer instead of whatever’s on the surface.
