I am in my 50s now. Still does it for me all these years later. Collectively as a band they were brilliant, and of the time. Individually, what a car crash!
Just found out my uncle is in this video at the beginning & at the end as the beginning was filmed in his cafe on Portobello Road. He passed away aged 97 on 23rd March 2022, his funeral was yesterday 💜
I remember me old man took me to birmingham in the mid 90's for my birthday, I was a bout 9/10 years old. Just told me we were going bowling, walked up to the NEC and pulled out these east 17 tickets. Was so suprised that I just cried. I'm 34 now and only my kids birthdays I can compare to that day.
about that time too. One of the best true to life bands of their times. Don't get me wrong I listen to all music and appreciate it all and I mean all, but there is NO DOUBT that E17 had a VERY special talent and gave true tunes. Whilst Toni was extremely talented the mix of E17 proved to be both strength and weakness. Such a shame that the reunion didn't go well, may be in their 50s they will come back? how good? who knows?
The 90s was a great time the last decade of freedom before the internet the weekend was a big deal you got together with you friends hit the bars...good times great memories it was one long party....
I was just a kid when I was listening to East17 and never really appreciated this song, I was all about House of love and all those louder and faster songs but now I can´t get enough of this one. And since Tony is my fave I am in heaven listening to his voice in my headphones. Music of East 17 made my teenage years a bit less miserable.
I was 9 in 93. Playing it now has unlocked a memory of ALL the lyrics. I used to sing this LOUD. I had no idea what it was about, which is hilarious. Hope this time capsule brings you as much happiness as it has for me ❤
The lyrics are masterpiece. You could only have known it at age 9 because it had the raunchiest content expressed by perfectly family-friendly words, and thus could be widely broadcast. This song is explicit af in its meaning, but formally it is 100% inoffensive... and that time was a time of "Parental Warning" stickers on CDs. Whoever came up this idea is legend, and Shakespeare himself would have celebrated it. There is only one song that compares AFAIK, and it is a wholly different genre (experimental arthouse). It is "Zebulon" by Einstürzende Neubauten, and it is, if anything, even more explicit: "Let my centre be the axis around which your body gyrates...", and it goes on like this, via "tongue-fish in your lake", to full climax. Errrr, to full "snow-melt" I mean.
e17 best song , lyrics is so naughty , yet very innovative , dunno how they came up with it , the music is so dreamy relaxing , mesmerizing kinda draws you involuntarily to dig deeper in your memories , i was 15 when this song came out and Tony was the coolest thing ever in my opinion , i tried to copy his moves , his way of talk , his cold face looks ......Memories !!! Very good song
I was 21 when this came out..😲😲 good tune 🎶🎶 Does anyone remember Enigma?? I used to get lost on another level listening. The late 80,s and 90,s had the best music. Raving in London, those were the days!!!
back in '93 we had this argument about whether he as saying rest upon my chair / rest upon my chest. Turns out it's chest so stu if you're still alive you owe me 10 quid mate
I wouldn't quite go that far...New Kids On The Block started the Boyband era off in the late 80's. East 17 & Take That happened in the 90's. East 17 were defo better than Take That tho.
Great memories of the 90's and being in school. Also, I went to Japan with a friend as part of an exchange troupe. One night all the English speakers got together and we listened to this track drunk off our asses. Always takes me back to that time, 16 years ago. I'd love to revisit that time again :'-)
I know, right? It's as juicy as it is sweet, really creative and well-written. Should be in textbooks, as a homework assignment for aspiring writers: "count all the times where the word 'fuck' was avoided, and name the literary devices that were used to achieve this."
I'm with Mark here, you liked East 17? Mate if you were actually cool you'd have like Mickey Finn, Andy C and Slipmatt at this point in time. EAST 17? WTF?
Not *exactly* like this, no. But then again, nobody in the 80s would have predicted the 90s - they just evolved out of seemingly nowhere. And that shows that such a spirit can again rise, the outside looking different according to its time, but the same at heart... but wait, it gets better: To quote one of the 1980s greatest poets, LKJ: "Di eagle and di bear got people living in fear/Of impending nuclear warfare". Maybe it was PRECISELY the dread and despair that permeated the 80s WHY the 90s were what they were? If so, let us hope the light we tasted back then shall soon again shine, so that a new generation may again feel as we felt then - and this time for more than just a fleeting moment in history.
they did great chorus performances and great pianos. the refrain in this song did put me up on the roof and at the same time back on the ground. amazing. that kind of real music is missing.
Nope it wasn't. Don't confuse the music you like with the way the decade was in reality for people living through it. If you were not the "norm" then it was a bad time just like all the decades before it.
Randomly drunk searched for east 17. NOW im a 36 yr old heavy rock/metal fan but something about this band still can get me dancing. Maybe cos im drunk and bored.
this song brings back fond memories of early days in college ... my roomate was so hooked on it, she got me hooked on it as well ... ah, those were the days ...
I was just reading how they're reforming and thought I'd listen to this on you tube...I forgot how good a track this is! Streets ahead of the X factor rubbish!
takes me back to my teens. I am forty now. Still feeling the beat!
Me too
I am in my 50s now. Still does it for me all these years later. Collectively as a band they were brilliant, and of the time. Individually, what a car crash!
Shauna Cultra Yup.. Good times bro’

Such an epic song, East 17 were one of the best bands, if not the best, around this era....this song proves that.
The 90s was a great time the last decade of freedom before the internet the weekend was a big deal you got together with you friends hit the bars...good times great memories it was one long party....
The 90’s was a great time to be a teenager. Loved this song

'real' is not a word that comes to mind when I watch this.
Every boy band of today should be kissing the feet of these legends. And so should the people of Walthamstow
Amen , East 17 Needs to come back with all original members
Check out Brian Harvey’s channel .. BHTV .. tells his story.
I wouldn't quite go that far...New Kids On The Block started the Boyband era off in the late 80's. East 17 & Take That happened in the 90's. East 17 were defo better than Take That tho.
Fucking embarrassment to London, let alone Walthamstow (which is a hickey Essex suburb really).
@@juniorramone4654 Well thank you for coming to CZcams and searching for "Deep East 17" anyway.
Great memories of the 90's and being in school.
