Dude I can relate, I play trumpet, sax and short sax. Sitting there eating snot, and then out of the blue you’re summoned to go ape shit. You’re totally like “I’ve been waiting my time hole life for this”, so you just totally put all that solo’s you’ve been practicing into that moment. Hat off to my fellow saxer 🤣
Right?? "Mean streets of Cary" being the Taco Bell on Kildaire by the Big Lots. That I remember when it was built. "What you got to do"= walking one more block to the Goodberrys. And Starbucks.
We're going to write a full orchestral piece to a 1970s action series in less than 20 minutes. The only thing that this song missed was some electric guitar with a wah wah pedal doing some Waka Chicka's
Whew boy. I just checked and he's had 1,093 solo concerts, 1,051 since June 28, 2002 in Chicago (the first Rock This Bitch). Even if we assume he's only had to do Rock This Bitch at 75% of those, that's still 788 unique songs! (And I think it's probably closer to 90-95%.) This man has crazy musical creativity.
Ben. You are a musical GOD sir. Totally hearing CHiP's, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Dallas and Shaft in this orchestration. Not saying he ripped anyone off, its where the music takes me. Outstanding.
A master songwriter and performer! It got me in the last half, first part i was wondering where he found this orchestra because they were very shy, but they really loosened up and found the groove!
Seriously? Classical musicians are accustomed to playing what's on the page. Yeah they're professionals but only some can play by ear, ad lib, jam etc. It's risky doing something like this which is what makes it exciting to watch 💓
He played a free show in Norfolk for the release of rocking the suburbs at the boathouse. It has since been blown away by a hurricane, but that was a really good day...
I need Ben Folds to surpass Hans Zimmer Ludovico Ennuadi while composing live. Still waiting him to drop another crazy song like these new spaces are all designed to be flexible! That one i have watched like 1000 times always refreshing.
Music follows certain forms. Like the AAB thing he inserts at the beginning. Most working musicians can follow what he's doing. Some musicians need everything written out for them and can't wing it whatsoever. But in reality, this is fairly rudimental. Still, entertaining as hell.
Don't mean to try to diminish this cool ass experience but he didn't do anything profound. A rudamentary understanding of composition is all thats needed. Any high-school music teacher could arrange this piece. Still fun as all get out though!
That sax had been waiting their entire life for that moment and preformed spectacularly

Three years later and this song still lives rent-free in my head
Loved the trumpet in the back just wailing (chef's kiss)
Only heard of this guy today and I’m sad I only learned of him now, he is a living legend
HUGE Ben Folds fan since early 90s .. back then he labeled his music, “Punk Rock for sissies.” Start with his album “Songs for Silverman” 🤟
Better late than never! Good for you. 🙂
Hey man there’s billions that have never heard of him and never will. You should feel lucky you found him at all haha
I just learned about him an hour ago. It's 3 am and I'm totally hooked on his videos
I've watched like 50 of these Ben Folds improvs.... this may be the best. Hilarious and rocking.
Definitely the best one he did.
Literally, he goes so hard for no reason
“Just go all Maynard on that shit” got me lol
Right?? "Mean streets of Cary" being the Taco Bell on Kildaire by the Big Lots. That I remember when it was built. "What you got to do"= walking one more block to the Goodberrys. And Starbucks.
Maynard Ferguson, is to whom he refers, for those who didn't know.
@@calebclunie4001 Thanks for the clarification. My mind immediately went to Maynard James Keenan and I was throughly confused lol
When he inadvertently created an anime opener.
I thought it was gonna go straight to Giorno's theme haha
I was sitting in the front row for this and it was fucking fantastic.
Wow lucky you
Actually you weren't Daniel. You're credit card statements from Facebook say differently.
@@pinkeye00 your* sorry pinkeye.
should I try sounding
"...f'ing fantastic!". I believe that is a technical music term?! 😜🤫
that trumpet makes me unreasonably happy
If band was this interesting in high school...... I'd still be playing.
I haven't seen one of these in months I was wondering when they would come back, this is perhaps one of the top ones!
That Sax player had some serious soul xD I felt the power of the 80s come through
Big respect to the saxophone. He?She? improvised a solo in just a second
Are you afraid to misgender a saxophone?
@@schokobaron2615 more to misgender the saxophone player, but it is still quite silly
lol 😆
@@schokobaron2615 saxophone misgendering is an epidemic in the world how dare you be so insensitive

Thank you for holding still for the entire song. Well worth it!
This is the best one I’ve seen. Sick sax solo on the spot
I want an album with every Rock this bitch song

“Just go all Maynard on that shit” - love it!!
Me too. I laugh every time I hear him say that.
Me driving back home: Do what you gotta do, to survive, in the mean street of Medan~
I liked watching this art come together, step by step. Brilliant.
Yes the Saxophone, got all the ladies 😁😁
By far one of the best Rock this bitch songs.
Truly EPIC! What a genius!
That trumpet is my spirit animal.
Ben. You are a musical GOD sir.

I am blown Away by this guy and the musicians are so flexible and absolute masters at their craft.
...and totally psyched not to be playing off the sheet for a change!
Look at the outdoors how inspiring to have that surrounding the music.
And it was so clearly of 70s theme song flavor. Two thumbs up.
This should have millions of views. This man is amazing.
The B part reminds me of James Bond driving fast on a mauntain roads in France.
This is incredible. Enjoyed watching it come together (I have no musical experience).
I say GOD DAMN! Ben is so damn talented. Who else composes on the spot with orchestras? Induct this man into the Music hall of Fame YESTERDAY!
So underappreciated! It boggles the mind.
where i have been all this time ... where i wassssssssss , this is taking my soul up to the sky

What a gift. Their very own theme song. Ben is unrivaled. Amazballz for sure!
This was beautiful, I got chills
He played a free show in Norfolk for the release of rocking the suburbs at the boathouse. It has since been blown away by a hurricane, but that was a really good day...
Amazing that he puts this arrangement together in his head, on the fly, in 10 mins.
Wow that's amazing especially the solo sax
This is definitely my favorite one!
Wonderful to watch his process!
Always brilliant - never seen another famous musician attempt to do what he does - live
Ben gives no Fucks! He is definitely fearless! The other pussies...not so much.
Brilliantly hilarious. 👍
Thank you.
Sax took it up a notch.
I had tickets to this show as part of my symphony Summerfest package and ended up getting sick. I'm even more sick that I missed it!
That trumpet came through smoothly first time around 💯 👌🏽 🔥
wow he is getting better every time!
amazing!
This is maybe his best improv ever lol
Hear the final product in all it's glory at 15:50
I’m here for the journey
I appreciate the info. Entirely unnecessary.
It's great that Ben is getting some air time and recognition for his talent
Big Thanks for recording
This amazing masterpiece starts at 15:48, for the peeps without the patience to hear it being created on the fricking spot!!!
The trumpet made a good come back🤣🤣🤣
This is one of the things that confidence can do to a human. Absolute power.
This is why Ben is so great. Fricken brilliant.
I was 90% of the way through this vid and I was asking, "yeah, but what she's the ceiling look like".
Question answered!
He is the best thing ever made in the history of man. It is 1 of 1.
This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen
I can almost hear, Isaac Hayes singing, "Two Tough Guys!"
I’m going to be singing that chorus all week
omg the ending is amazing
Thank you CZcams algorithm for putting this in my recommendations
I loved his work in over the hedge
I'm so glad i found this video 😭
Absolutely incredible, had me smiling the whole time

oh, the hard days of my disaffected youth on the mean streets of Cary...
So cool, funny, & im from NC, so this is so hilarious about Cary- straight suburbs
That ask for the trumpets, that’s a big ask. You know, just have a muffle, and crank it 3 octaves…
That was so awsome!
Half way through and it's starting to sound like an awesome Bond theme.
that was fantastic!
This is SO amazing!! 😌😌😌😌😌
Submitter is sailing the high seas.
This is brilliant
Happy I clicked on this.
Ben, give it the 💓 beat, GO for it
That's awesome!
This is great!!
Brilliant!
How is he able to make up music on the spot ? It's unreal.
Seems to be simple chords repeated with dynamics. To an experienced musician it's easy. To others it is amazing. Still challenging.
Extraordinary talent, many years of study & practice, innate love & passion, et voila!
"Why Can't it always be this easy?" - Dave Grohl
"It is." - Paul McCartney

Ya, west cary has mean streets for sure
Unbelievable 🤔🙄😇

Excellent experience
Happy new year all. I'm back for my annual watch of this video.
Holy shit this is fucking amazing
how to play one song for an hour. It was fun anyway:) thumb up
Jesus this guys how to waffle!!
first chair cello is having a good time lol
Wow!
this was breathtaking. wtf
The music sounds like a mix, like if the People's Court theme was morphed into a James Bond opening number
Daaayyyuuummmm
I have no idea why this made it into my feed, but I loved it! The algorithm is getting really good!
You know if you fully flush this peace out I think it kind of sounds like a 70s James Bond theme
Don't know how the hell I ended up here but...I think I'll stay.
I NEED MORE COWBELL!!!
"FRENCH HORNS!" 🤣
Just jam already!
