Bob was a Habs fan but you would never have known it to listen to him. I used to laugh every time I heard someone accuse him of being a Leafs homer. Couldn’t have been further from the truth, he was just a complete professional.
RIP Mr. Cole! All Newfoundlanders, like myself, couldn’t have been prouder to call you one of our own! And thank you for being the voice of the NHL and for all the great memories you created!

Good voice but I thought he was lousy in calling the action when something suddenly happened like a scoring chance by Sundin. He would go, “SUNNDIINNN!!!”

RIP BOB COLE! Growing up in Vancouver and my parents being from El Salvador watching hockey night in Canada was the most Canadian thing we did in the 90s. He made us feel like we were at home when my parents were far away from their birth place

@@johnbrowne2170 Sure. My point was that it didn't even matter if he missed the names - he conveyed the excitement better than anyone in the sport. Even as a Habs fan I still think of Bob Cole as THE iconic play-by-play voice of Hockey Night in Canada. Even more than Gallivan before him and Hughson after him (though all are great).

Dick literally grew up in the Habs locker room, so he understandably loved the franchise. But he wasn't anywhere near as blatantly biased as most of today's broadcasters ( Shorthouse and Garrett come to mind. Totally cringe )
