Bob was a Habs fan but you would never have known it to listen to him. I used to laugh every time I heard someone accuse him of being a Leafs homer. Couldn’t have been further from the truth, he was just a complete professional. RIP Mr. Cole! All Newfoundlanders, like myself, couldn’t have been prouder to call you one of our own! And thank you for being the voice of the NHL and for all the great memories you created!
Good voice but I thought he was lousy in calling the action when something suddenly happened like a scoring chance by Sundin. He would go, “SUNNDIINNN!!!”
RIP BOB COLE! Growing up in Vancouver and my parents being from El Salvador watching hockey night in Canada was the most Canadian thing we did in the 90s. He made us feel like we were at home when my parents were far away from their birth place
Social media sadly Is the devil very unhappy people criticizing people because there lives are miserable. Bob Cole was great when he was young and when he was old and I'm Not even a Canadian. RIP MR .COLE .
My fondest memories of HNIC in the 1990s was Bob Cole & Harry Neale on the 7:00 pm broadcast!!! Loved this man’s call of the game. I am from Detroit so we get CBC from the border!
Thanks for this, especially the clip from HNIC. Thanks so much Bob Cole, your words and voice told the story and conveyed the emotion and excitement - that intangible magic that only the great ones have always done. Oh baby... so good. We Canadians have been so blessed.
Bob Cole will be missed. Also want to take this opportunity to say that you are one of those voices for me Donnie! :) Sportpage, Sportsnet... "Skating gingerly..." etc
So sad, Bob was great. Makes me think about Don Cherry, he’s getting up there, maybe you guys can get him in the show, would love to hear his take on the Canucks.
@@johnbrowne2170 Sure. My point was that it didn't even matter if he missed the names - he conveyed the excitement better than anyone in the sport. Even as a Habs fan I still think of Bob Cole as THE iconic play-by-play voice of Hockey Night in Canada. Even more than Gallivan before him and Hughson after him (though all are great).
Dick literally grew up in the Habs locker room, so he understandably loved the franchise. But he wasn't anywhere near as blatantly biased as most of today's broadcasters ( Shorthouse and Garrett come to mind. Totally cringe )

Sorry Donnie, it wasn't Don Cherrys age it was bc of his racism and bigotry that decent Canadians wanted him off the air!!! Thank God he's gone. I've listened to you for 4 decades. Surely, you've grown and evolved like the rest of us to realize Cherry was a dinosaur who was too stubborn and self-centered to change. Bob Cole is a true legend! RIP!!!
Can you back up your slanderous, false claims of racism toward Mr. Cherry? Any facts or evidence? Or just parroting what your radical college professor said.
I'm not a huge fan of Ron McLean but I do feel bad for him that he had to sit next to that P.O.S for so many years. You could see the detest for each other in their eyes even though Ron tried to play it off as one long running joke.
RIP to a Canadian legend.

Every Saturday night for 50 years in Canada was hearing Bob Cole's voice on my TV. Bless you, sir. You defined Canadian culture.
"they're going home!! they're going home!!" iconic
Listening to the montage of him…brings me to tears😢

Thanks guys, great stuff from Donnie, I never realized how much Bob Cole I heard growing up in the 70's and 80's.
Bob Cole. Legendary pro. And hockey night treasure.
I remember the Sunday games, snuck my transititer radio to church to listen to them

A legend for sure. I used to love hearing Barry Macdonald''s impression of him.
He may have not always gotten the names right but OH BABY, his voice, pacing, and cadence were the best out there. RIP Bob Cole.
The times he missed names was between the years 82 to 85 years old. In his prime he was perfect.

here they come Harry.... 2 of them!!!
Their going home. Their going home
Don't be sad. 90 is a very lucky run.
In no particular order
Bob Cole
Danny Gallivan
Dick Irwin
Great choices. I have to tip my hat to the West Coast 10:00 pm broadcast team in the 1990s and early 2000s of Chris Cuthpbert and Greg Millen!!!
Dick Irvin made up for Bob not being biast towards any team...lol😅...Dick showed he loved the Habs
