- Ably accompanied by handsome, young Frank Sinatra and Peter Lawford. From 1947. The music by Jule Styne, with lyrics by Sammy Cahn. Additional information regarding this composition is to/by genesee gbh. Thank you so much!

I love Kathryn. She was one of the few Hollywood stars who didn’t turn their back on Dorothy Dandridge when she was at her lowest. They would go out and buy soul food dinners together and they always held hands while Kathryn told her funny stories to keep her spirits up. Beautiful woman indeed ❤️
Great music is a gift from previous generations. Don't let it fade away.
A voice truly sent by the Almighty to grace filmdom for decades.. pure, sweet, clear and bell-like. Beyond anything earth-bound!
So romantic and innocent, this is an absolute treat. This type of music is precious, no one sings this way anymore as far as I know. The only voices similar to this are Frederika Von Stade and Monica Whicher. Miss Grayson made it seem easy and natural. Much of the "music" these days is garish, loud, and mechanical, often the lyrics are either childish, filthy, or both. Why can't we have more of this wonderful musicianship today? Thanks for posting this gorgeous video.
I will try to write something then! as you are absolutely right!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. it's easy to copy and paste computerized trash that's so simple it gets stuck in people's head. Mediocrity.
Wow it's been 14 years... It's still getting worse... But I'm still hopeful! Music seems to be close to better changes
With a full four octave range...
There's a new girl by the name of laufey she's really bringing the soul back 😭❤
wow, now i know how a human nightingale sounds. Her voice is so exquisite.
Thanks so much for writing! Ms. G was, is and always will be one of my favorites! If you've time please visit some of the many other clips I've uploaded by this brilliant talent! Best regards! varadero
songbird extraordinaire
I have no idea how there could be any 'thumbs down' on this video. This timeless love ballad is the best.
Cannot please some I guess...
Wow. Speechless. I'm Born in the 80s. I truly appreciate the music from that era. Beautiful love songs.
Alisa Hoffman Hi! I posted this and will always love it! I agree with you that the music from that era was unique. So many of the singers were magnificent, but the lyricists and composers made them shine all the brighter with their elegant writings! Thanks so much for writing!
Best to you,
varadero
The 30s, 40s, and the Hollywood musical like so many others I grew up with, and queued up at many a first or second house Cinema to see Miss Grayson, films like this one. It Happened in Brooklyn, On the Town, Anchors Aweigh and oh so many more this tired old brain can't remember.
At 78 and thanks to CZcams the likes of us who love this genre can live it all over again and delve into the nostalgia of it all.
Thank you Varadero
Kathryn Grayson Delicious.
Hi Mr. Mainwaring,
We wrote briefly over a year ago, and I think you were having some troubling family problems at the time. Some issues have no resolution, but I hope yours did, in a happy way! Haven't forgotten our messages, and just hope you're well.
Best regards,
varadero
yes Varadero always nice to hear from you, things 100 per cent OK now. email (bradtemplar@orange.fr) if inclined?

Clive Mainwaring it’s my favourite era too
This beautiful lady leaves me speechless.
Jule Styne wrote so many beautiful songs, that he undoubtedly belongs to the top of Hollywood composers of the 20th century. I would be tempted to say that this is one of them, but that would be unfair to all the other gems he gave us.
I only know what I know
The passing years will show
You've made my love so young, so new..
Time after time
You'll hear me say that I'm
So lucky to be loving you.
I was a blond boy in his 20's while dated back in the 60's, totally fond of the cold beauty radiated by Doris Day, but nowadays I feel so much of fondness filling myself if I recognise how deep KG was immersed in her true humanity as a personality of that age, now away along with that time of superiority over this time of postmodernism, where we have got neither the past nor the future. R.I.P., K.G.! We still love you.
Sooo dang beautiful ❤
Thanks. Very Beautiful Woman,Song,and Voice.Mmmmmmmm
I was three to four years old at the time. I had this song somewhere in the deep of my mind. My wife and I went to the movies the other day and saw "Julie & Julia". The song was there and the train trip came to my mind immediatly. I remembered my mom mumbling the song (she did not speak any English) while we crossed the state. I imagine she had seen the movies with Ms. Grayson some time before we moved. That was August 1948.
Classy song. My soprano voice is nothing compared to hers; wish I could sing as well. Thanks for uploading !
The debut of this famous song and so beautifully performed, as it should be, simply...
What a magnificent moment in cinematic history, and wow, WHAT A DAME!!! (can I say that?)
Beautiful actress miss Kathryn ( sing birdy sing ) Grayson sweetness she's sings her heart out and takes your breath away with her beautiful sounding voice so sweet and lovely my goodness .
What a BEAUTIFUL song and the singer is fantastic, she was so talented. Thanks for posting
Kathryn was a beautiful star of the screen with a heavenly voice and an assured acting manner. She paired effortlessly with male co-stars to produce unforgettable films. May she never be forgotten....
So breathtakingly beautiful and so lovely to hear she was an amazing actress I love her so much🎼🎵🎶🎤🎧🎻🎹📻😍😘😇😙😚😊🎥📺🎬🌹🐦.
An utterly original tune. You can't find any song anywhere before it that the composer Jule Styne borrowed from. From it's
beginning to end the melody knows exactly where it's going. A classic
her golden voice makes her a superstar nice to see frank at the piano
Oh Kathryn❤.....she was a Goddes and a Nightingale of all hearts!
We miss you and your music will live forever.......
I've listened to music from pretty much every era and genre, and I could never pick out a particular rendition as the 'best'. Until my grandmother told me to look up Kathryn Grayson and I stumbled upon this song. I can't even begin to describe how perfectly pure her voice is. Fantastic beyond words...
Do so love the American classic songbook!
I love this song by Frank. Deeper and sings to the female. 🧡🧡🧡
LOVELY! Just LOVELY! So delighted to have stumbled across this! I"ve been a Kathryn Grayson fan for over 55 years, but had never heard her sing this before! WHAT A TREAT!!!This is my favorite new discovery of the day! Thanks for posting this!!!
Kathryn sings this SO beautifully.
I love it !!
Thank you.........
I will forever love this song... thank you for this and for all the great memories. I am thankful i have met you and you've been a part of my life, even just for a while. Youve taught me so much about my self. Thank you
Неповторимо. Красота и голос. Как всё это совпало в одном человеке? Кумир!
This video is great. I've never seen Frank Sinatra and Peter Lawford looking so handsome--and kath Grayson is beautiful. If my dad was alive today--he would have never quit watching this clip. In fact --I'll probably watch it -at least 200 hundred more times--just for the wonderful memories that it brings up. Thanks Varedero.
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she had an outstanding voice and presence. And those love sick puppy eyes of Peter Lawford- that was one of his standard poses. great clip. thanks for sharing.
And then some! Ms. Grayson could do it all! She may be gone, but definitely not forgotten! Honored to hear from you!
Thank you for posting this truly beautiful share. It's gorgeous the song and the singer.
I love watching Frank Sinatra`s eyes tear up as he listens to Kathryn`s beautiful rendtion of this beautiful song.
Lorraine
What a beautiful song and Handsome cast. wonderful.
Love it and will until I pop my clogs. Very very grateful for those who wrote these tunes and those who sang them. She was one of the bes.
Lawford looks at her so lovingly. I love to watch his face!!!!!!!!!!!
Deborah Florence Their romance was supposedly a secret from Frank! Mr. S wasn't really very observant, or he'd have peeped all the furtive stuff going on between Kathryn and Peter! This is a lovely film with great performances, and equally beautiful songs! Thanks for your message!
varadero
Thank you so much for sharing. She was a classy lady and good actress with a mesmerizing voice. Thank you again.
Hi Mr. Millan! You're comments are so welcome, and I agree! Over the years I've posted several other clips with Ms. G. If you have time please see her on my channel, varadero 1839! Best wishes!
@@varadero1839
Thank you. I will check your channel. Best of luck.
@varadero1839 Ahhhhhhhhhh!! I am so proud to say I was born in March 1935!!!!!!!! Just I imagine!!1 I have been alive and around all that time, enjoying so much beauty through the radio and the cinema. Now at a young 76 I can recreate those glorious days thanks to Internet. Envy me! I was listening to the radio that fatidic Dec 7, 1941 narrating Pearl Harbor - I was 7 and I remember all - Pepe, from Lima, Peru
Wanted to get back to you on "Evening." It had it all; a great story, amazing cinematography, and those superb actresses! What a cast! Don't know, but I think this must have been one of the last films for lovely charming Natasha Richardson. To have acted with her mother has to have been icing on the cake. Meryl Streep and her daughter, though no scenes together, were both great! Makes me feel proud to have uploaded the ever talented Kathryn Grayson! Thanks so much!
One of the golden voices of Hollywood! Thank you for posting this.
I love her so very very much I have all her films she is a doll and a sweetheart see I am 79years old I grow up with her
I grew up with all these wonderful Hollywood musicals,we will never
see the likes of them ever again.
Thank you coco99! Wonderful to hear from you, and I suggest we're in complete agreement. Sadly, we'll never hear winning vocalists or actors like this again. Grateful to hear from you!
oh you will
Kathryn Grayson.
My favorite in all categories. ♥♥♥
Thanks Joe Smith,
I posted this, love it and have many others by Ms. Grayson! Please check out my channel! Always grateful and best wishes!
varadero
+varadero1839 Kathryn looks exactly like my ex girlfriend.
so very beautiful and she sings, too!
Hey Joe,
Good to hear from you! You're a lucky guy indeed! How many folks can say their current or even ex girl looks so beautiful? Fortunate fella.
Thank You!
varadero
Magnificent voice!
my eyes get teary for some reason..
i wish i could be born in the '40 and '50 ..
Her voice makes me feel like i'm drifting away..
Incredible. WOW!
Scary to me to think that she's as wonderful as she appears here! I'm grateful to hear from you Will Cayemberg! You've an eagle-eye for exquisite beauty and talent. Thanks so much for your comment!
Lovely girl, lovely song!
always taken by her beauty, quite a stunner! and the voice well just lovely! :D
Such a shock to learn that she died yesterday.
She will be missed.
RIP Kathryn
WHAT A GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL SINGER AND ACTRESS SHE WAS..........
You got that right! She's so lovely here, and her voice never better! Thanks for writing!
Thanks for the sweet, graceful & beautiful Kathryn Grayson! H. :)
Time after time
I tell myself that I'm
So lucky to be loving you.
So lucky to be
The one you run to see
In the evening, when the day is through.
Forever lovely!!!!!!!!1
RIP, sweet, Kathryn.
So sweet x
It's so wonderful to hear from someone who'd actually known her! Think she was universally loved, but your remarks just seem to send home the "real" Kathryn! She was an elegant, beautiful, incredibly talented and all-around great individual. Still hard to think she's gone.
Helped her to her seat some years back at the Hollywood 3D film festival.... a frail, overweight granny. Her grandaughter, in a custom gold lame minidress, was the most beautiful young woman I'd ever seen, worth selling your soul to have.... DNA on parade!!!
My grandma was great friends with her, I never got to meet her or my grandma but my mom has a photo of Kathryn with my aunt while she was visiting them.
Just got a copy of this film on a DVD import and although 70+ old have to say I am very much into now Sinatra, but have always liked KG
good songs are everlasting
Sublime 🥰
This song has been haunting me the past couple of days, maybe because I just saw Evening on Netflix Instant Streaming a few days ago. I loved the movie, and I loved this video. Now I will have to look on Netflix and see if I can get It Happened in Brooklyn. I love the old Classic Movies. And anything with Sinatra singing. And of all the female singers who sang this, I think Kathryn Grayson had the prettiest voice, and was the prettiest girl.
You're welcome! I agree with you and also long for "the old days." Composers knew their stuff, lyricists were brilliant and the performers didn't need to wear a "mike" on their head to be heard 16 feet away. Thank you!!
One of the most beautiful Jule Styne songs.
Thanks for sharing.
Abeautiful song by a wonderful singer.
Time after time, we were lucky to have her.
RIP, Miss Grayson.
Classic Grayson; reading her song then when it comes to the "you" a look to the main guy. I love it. It should be in every movie musical (and almost is : D )
One of the most beautiful versions of this song.
I'm so sad I found out at the Oscars that Kathryn passed away. No tribute to her? No Access Hollywood special? She was a true talent and no one seemed to make notice.
Love it ❤😊
Wow....BEAUTIFUL!!!
Que angel, dios mío
Loved her styling in that register! Loved it!:)
Oh so beautiful in every way
Watch Kathryn in Anchors Aweigh with Gene Kelly! OMG the way he looks at her while she's singing-it's almost as if he's really in love with her!
Great voice
Right on the money! Under those dulcet, operatic tones I think she really could have been an equally successful singer, using a different register. Thank you!!
RIP! They don't make them like her anymore.
Beautiful.
RIP :(
i want her talent SO bad!!!
That's how you sing the words to a beautiful song.
I TOO WAS BORN TOO LATE TO ENJOY HER FULLY. yES, I SAW SOME OF HER MOVIES, BUT I DON'T THINK SHE EVER RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION SHE DESERVED FOR HER TALENT AND GRACE.
What a GREAT head voice!! I'm not crazy about her chest voice/operatic sound, but her head voice is mesmerizing. It's well-suited to the pop music of this time period.
This is kind of a "bare-bones" version of this loveliest of singers, and actresses! I count myself very fortunate to have heard from you, and others who still find her irresistible! Thanks so much for your comment!
Beautiful
Many thanks! I'm a huge fan; please see her on my site on CZcams. In search, just type:

Best to you!
varadero
Grayson was certainly one of the most beautiful female stars in Hollywood ever!
I agree! She had very expressive and beautiful eyes! I miss her, am a huge fan and I've tried to honor her memory here. I'm hoping you've seen some of the clips! Wonderful to hear from you!
varadero1839 I´m seeing every clip with admiration and love;. She was lovely to look at and might have been a great opera star if she wanted. Instead she went to Hollywood to enchant our eyes and ears forever. I kow she passed away few years ago. She is singing along with the angels now.
Demilade Ladipo I know she did, Dear, but her lack of serious technical study prevented her to have a real operatic carreer. She was a Hollywood "microphone" singer, maybe the best of all. The only one to be compared to Grayson is (namely) Deanna Durbin!
Demilade Ladipo Kathryn Grayson had no vocal study to become an opera singer. She never had. She was a Hollywood "microphone" singer. So were Mario Lanza, Jeannete Mc Donald and Jane Powell. She was a beautiful lady and a singing angel. Never an opera singer capable to step out on an opera stage. Who cares? She was wonderful, beautiful and had a lovely voice! Durbin turned Hollywood down!
Demilade Ladipo I agree with you. Many of the Hollywood operatic singers had voice lessons:Nelson Eddy,Mario Lanza,Deanna Durbin,Mc Donald,Marni Nixon etc. They chose to stay in Hollywood as many Broadway operatic singers Like Barbara Cook, John Raitt,Alfred Drake, Florence Henderson Julie Andrews, and others who chose to stay on Broadway instead of gouing to the opera. All were trained singers and also was Grayson.
I second that emotion. Nobody could put over a song like Ms. G! Great thing is, she's still with us teaching young folks how to make it real. Thanks so much for your comment!!
@Pearlxo Hi Pearlxo! I "was" born during that time, but wish I'd been born in the mid, late 30s! That way I wouldn't have had to wait so long to hear Ms. Grayson sing this song! Thanks so much for your kind remark! I think the "drifting feeling" affects a great many people! Wonderful to hear from you!
You're welcome! She's a delight, and a really amazing performer.
You're very knowledgeable! Thanks for your message, and your discovery! Guess you've found me out, and Cyndi Lauper truly rules!
Thanks so much for the update! I've never seen "Evening," but looked it up online. To say it offers some of the best actresses in the world would be an understatement! I hope I can get it from Netflix! Not knowing why your having viewed the movie elicited this response, I'm really excited to learn more! Grateful to hear from you!
Great..
Kathryn Grayson was a stunning beauty.
I agree! Thanks for writing.
Varadero
Nice to heaf Kathryn sing ballads for a change istead of classical
I agree with you! Jule Styne was a genius and one of the best! Also, his career lasted so long that he thrilled many generations. Thanks for your comment. As "justpeachy130" mentioned, it's rare to hear Ms. Grayson perform this way; also a treat!!
Thank you for sharing this with me. I love Showboat also.
