Can´t say I would get the meaning behind this without the Lyrics or any PF song for that matter, The words came first and a music skeleton from Waters. The rest with Waters built the music atmosphere, Brilliant altogether. Its a myth Waters just brought words and then sat back for a song , Which his antis like to believe .

I am a lifelong Pink Floyd fan. I have almost everything they have ever recorded, on vinyl. This is by far my favorite album of theirs and “Dogs” is probably my favorite song from that album. I love watching a man like you discover this for the first time. It is extremely moving for me.

I like you have everything they've ever recorded. Including the theme for Moore, which I have never opened! Bought my first 8-track of them in 67,started collecting from there. Still have many on 8-track, vinyl. I had recorded hundreds of cassettes, since they always went camping with us . CDs are good they don't have the same warmth as vinyl. As for those listening off the internet, all this music is compressed. Much of it is missing when you hear it! Because of that, if you think it's the greatest thing you've ever heard while listening on the internet. it can't compare. And when it comes to live, they they where hands down the best. Had the opportunity to see them perform animals in an open Stadium. and fly the pig swung from a crane. The music was so loud they could hear it inside Sky Harbor International three miles away. The second night Tempe Arizona made them turn the music down. I was glad I went to the first, though I was deaf for a week. LOL Sorry the memories of an old man are the Deeds of a man in his prime.

I'm sorry to say i can't remember the song right now but there's a place where there's a helicopter over head. I had a really good stereo in my truck and we were way out in the strip pits.
Suddenly it gets quiet and you hear the bird and it sounds like it's coming right down on top of us. He literally opened the door to start looking for it when the music started.
He wasn't very familiar with the Floyd and couldn't believe it was coming from a cassette deck. I had to rewind it to prove it. I had a good chuckle but he was slightly pissed because i didn't stop him from getting out. Probably more from me laughing at him.

And this was back before there were volume limits in most arenas, so he was REALLY loud. Dogs remains one of my top PF songs to see live. The lyrics, the solos, the coda at the end - just stunning to see it played well live. Until you experience that you don't really get the full savage intent of it from the studio recording.

  • @PotawatomiThunderNew
    @PotawatomiThunderNew Před 4 lety +190

I’ve listen to this song a million times, and not once until now have I thought to myself “what are the dogs saying?” in the dogs barking section of the song. I probably would have went on listening to it without thinking about it, if you hadn’t pointed it out. So that opened my mind up to even more wonder. That was cool you mentioned that. And I’m glad you looked up the meaning beforehand, that way you knew exactly what was being talked about as the song went on.
Since you did this song, you should also consider reacting to the song Pigs and the song Sheep. This is from Pink Floyd’s album Animals, which is a concept album, they say it’s based on the book Animal Farm by George Orwell. The album has 3 main songs (4 songs overall, there’s a song called “Pigs On The Wing” but it’s a different sort of thing). These songs deal with 3 different facets of society and liken them to animals. Dogs as you can see is about the businessmen who backstab and perpetuate the “dog eat dog world” idea. The song Pigs is about like the higher up people in social positions of power. And the song Sheep is about the regular everyday people at the bottom of the social ladder who just go on through life doing as their told. In my opinion Dogs is probably the most complex song of the 3 and the biggest one to digest, and seeing as that you’ve already done it, maybe you should go ahead and knock out the other 2 as well. I mean lyrically Pigs might be the most complex one to digest. But in all other departments, like musically, with all the changes throughout the song, and it’s length, and just how vast it is, Dogs is the most complex I think.
Either way, even if you don’t decide to react to the other 2 it’s all good. I still look forward to what ever songs you have in store for future reactions.
    -Have a great day

The Animals album that came out in 1977 is a concept album discussing the various types human behaviors, comparing them to animals. Dogs is the second song on the album that discusses the element of humanity that goes the way of the Machiavellian businessman. Discussing the cut-throat life style they lead, always trying to overcome one another to become "top-dog". The final line prior to the first instrumental break. (And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south, hid your head in the sand...") describes what becomes of their life after years of lying, deceiving, and betraying others to get to the top, just a sad old man with no love.
But I like to think of Dogs in another light. Those who live on the street, grew up in a troubled household with no guidance and had to make their own way in life. Resorting to what needs to be done for their survival, like a stray dog living day to day. Some of these "dogs" resort to crime to make ends meet, others resort to working blue collar jobs gaining minimum wage to barely scrape by. Others go into the business of law enforcement, seeing the dark side of humanity. "As the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone", regarding the experiences they take in everyday. Dogs really encapsulates those who venture into the grittier part of humanity, get their hands dirty to keep the machine turning. I think most of us can say we either know a "dog" or are a "dog" themselves.
But that's the beauty of Dogs, Animals the album, and Pink Floyd in general. Their music leaves interpretation to the listener as to what they think the message means. I personally didn't know much about Dogs after my first few listens, as my first interpretation was pretty much my second paragraph. Now, the next two tracks, Pigs and Sheep, are a little more linear in their meaning but thats why I love this song and the album as a whole.
Great reaction to this, it's a deep track that really needs a few listens to be fully taken in. Hopefully you are open to checking out other artists, especially progressive rock artists, that explore similar themes to Pink Floyd!

I recall rolling a cigarette pack full to take to a concert (hell, to get through the day!) It was a great socially bonding experience to puff and pass and groove on good music. Grottgreta for me it’s the line “and when you lose control, you’ll reap the harvest you have sown...” prolly the greatest moment in all of recorded music history. Hair stands up on the back of my neck, every single time.

I got to see the Battersea Power station. It was near our flat in London but I didn't realize that, and my ex-husband took me on the train, he wanted for me to see it.
I've played the grooves off of Pink Floyd. Truth therapy from geniuses.

His guitar playing is phenomenal, but I have always loved his vocals as well. He has a better range than Waters. Also his voice intonations, perfect pitch and ability to hold those long notes at times are awesome.

I'm so happy to see this album getting more and more love. For years it seemed like this was the forgotten album as everyone raved about DSotM, WYWH, The Wall, and Meddle. This album may be my personal favorite in the PF catalog and holds up extremely well against all the others.

I think this is one of your best reactions...but it's also my top 3 favorite all time songs. But this is the only video reaction of you or anyone else that I've *rewatched* multiple times. You have something about you, you're on screen persona is very genuine and engaging. You almost always bring a smile to my face, and that's hella valuable for me(and everyone else who watches). Hope you continue growing and doing well!

    Dude!!
You break down barriers racial and otherwise. You do it with dignity, grace, and love. There are people in history that ring true in the human condition that will never leave my heart.Nelson Mandela, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King, etc etc. The ability to reach masses and cross boundaries was undeniable. I have always relied on my sister and music in my darkest hours. I would be in jail or dead if not for those two things. Music has been my anchor in life. I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated you, respect you as a human and your mission to keep great music alive. Out of all the reaction videos you stand out(I like those dudes that look like you could blindfold with dental floss too. Frankenstein Lab)
You’re positivity and beautiful heart emanate from your post. Keep up the good work my man

Well no cant imagine that, and they were probably pretty good on their instruments as young boys, considering David was once a session guitarist before joining Floyd and he was the highest paid session player in the uk
