Looks like a nice rotary tool. I purchased a kit years ago at Sam's Club it was branded "Kawasaki" and had their signature green so it was legit as far as the branding. It's been a great tool - I've recently (in the past couple of years) bought a Ryobi rotary tool for my son and despite it being battery powered (18v) it runs for a very long time on a single battery and has plenty of power for even cutting jobs. In both cases I paid well over the price being asked on Amazon for this one. When my Kawasaki one dies or I decide to get a newer one I'll look at this one then.
Keep up the great work - really enjoy the tool reviews!

I had a Dremel, it was an absolute piece of junk and did not hold up well at all, despite pretty low usage. I think that really stems from the "Leading National Brand" syndrome, where big names are leading us to believe that their brands are worth the extra money. But in reality, nothing could be further from the truth, they are selling "watered down" versions for way more than they're worth, and will bend over backwards to give free product to anyone who calls and complains. This helps them avoid bad press which can soil their image.
The store brands, and other lesser-known brands don't have to play those games. Because they're not in constant competition to achieve the highest profits, they can concentrate on making a decent product. Today, many of the store or lesser known brands are BETTER than the big name. I'm sure this tool will hold up quite well for some time to come.
I haven't had any experience with a battery-powered one, but I am sure that for small jobs, it's very convenient. Larger jobs where the tool is going to be running quite a bit, I always prefer an AC-powered tool.
Thanks, I don't pick and choose which items I review, I review what's available, and that changes from week to week and month to month.

Is the locking mechanism idiot proof?

Pretty much, though as soon as you make something idiot-proof, they'll make a better idiot.
