Legs like that deserve a new bike :)
Yep. Same problem. Worst sound ever, feels like the bike is going to break in half. I took it apart cleaned greased and assembled. Fine for 5 miles and back again. New cassette and all gone now.
yah, same here. Once I wear the grooves into the freehub it does this, luckily only under heavy load.
rhythmic + under torque combo is usually: BB, pedals, and axle skewers. Less likely to be cassette or hubs which are either rhythmic or under torque, but not both
Well defined, thanks! This was certainly cassette. I had cleaned and reinstalled it that morning. This hill spot is ~20% gradient. No where else created enough torque on the ride to cause it, and it felt pretty tight when I checked, but with a little bit 'extra' torque it jumped 2 or 3 blips on the retention ring and the same hill the next day was silent.
In my hollowtech crankset I suspected it was the bottom bracket, removed it and yep a rusted bearing, turned out the grease put by the mechanic that installed my crankset wasn't enough
ah. frustrating! Glad you got it sorted.
hello there,I also have been in this situation, every pedal that I made more higher the creaking casstte frequency.End up,in the middle of the bike riding, the freehub was broken, the component inside the freehub were broke into thousand of pieces,so my opinion is to get your bike asap to the workshop and ask them to service your rear hub.I hope this comment will help for those who facing this problem😁
Sounds like a cartridge bearing broke apart. I have had that happen as well. This video was the lock ring slightly loose under high torque (climbing a 20% gradient hill) Thanks for viewing and commenting!
Thanks. I’m writing this in the middle of a century ride. I guess I’ll just take the train back home 🤷
usually a creaking starting up during a ride should not lead to failure that renders the bike unridable for the duration of the ride. How far into the century did you get?
Yeah or just buy a bike stand and learn how to service your bikes yourself in the garage. There is a shitload of videos on CZcams showing how everything is done and you can buy all the tools and the parts that you need online. You will save yourself a lot of money in the long run, plus get lots of satisfaction that you were able to do it yourself.
I has this problem with my Quick Release frame, and my solution was getting a deore micro spline QR hubs, which is 9x135, and it works really fine. My 10x135 arc hubs will make this creaking sound all the time but when i transferred to the deore hubs, it works like magic.
Excellent. Thanks for the tip for those looking for a similar solution, and thanks for visiting!
Yoo I got that same sound too when doing 300 watts on steep climb in the lowest gear. Maybe because my I didn't put grease on the between the cassette and the hub?
possibly. If you clean the cassette fairly frequently you may want to add a bit of grease, but this open area gets caked up pretty quickly. The ratcheting of the cassette lock ring can be deceiving, and is usually the culprit.
This example was pretty tight, but there were another two or three clicks left to go without over-torqueing it. Try tightening just a little more and see if it gives you that satisfying extra lock ring click or two.
here before it gos on anyones recommended page
Thanks for checking it out, I hope it helped
the 4rth- 5th rings has a plastic sprocket inside. That thing damaged (only 15k kms - ulltegra r8000) and cant find it. i bought a new 105 r7000 and the 4rth ring creaking bad on uphills. Maybe my mechanic installed wrong? Should i buy tools to do it myself? FOr sure i can tighten right and grease it :D
yes, I I would definitely recommend having a cassette tool and chain whip.
This is my problem today do u think which part of my bike? Are made creakings i feel.the noise when low gear like smalles rear cassette
UNfortunately its hard to say without more information. This example was the rear cassette being not quite tight enough under heavy load (up very steep climbs). If this is the case for you and it sound similar, I recommend attempting to tighten the rear cassette. This requires a lock ring tool and an understanding of the lock ring's toothed locking mechanism, so if you are not confident and prepared, I would suggest bringing it to a bike mechanic.
Had that issue/sound when my free hub body was dry of grease.
welcome to the club!
Did you have an XD driver?
@@medve12 yep.
Exact same sound on my 2020 supersix evo! Going to take the cassette off and clean and grease the hub spline. See if that works.
Didn’t even think of the cassette, have put a new BB in, re greased headset & bolts etc! Will let you know how I get on
please do! creaking can be so many things... Riding buddy recently discovered his rebuilt wheel had the spoke crossovers reversed. Wheel seamed fine until high torque was applied, at which point the creaking was pretty bad and sounded similar to this video but worse.
Thanks man! I’m hoping this solves my problem, the weather is pretty bad here in the UK for the rest of the week but hopefully i can test it at the weekend
This is very normal for me 😂
😆 ride on!
It's your knees😂
ha! mystery solved☠
I have the same problem. how to fix?
Creeks can be a number of things. I will tell you what fixed my problem. possibly it will help you. My freehub body splines have nicks where the rings have worn over time, so the cause for me was a dry freehub with nicks and a lock ring that was not quite tight enough. I use dry (wax) lube on my chain (White Lightening). I took off the cassette, greased the freehub, then reassembled to the specified torque.

ya my creaking happens more towards the smaller cogs. I took the rear wheel off and wiggled the cassettes and I can tell its creaking from there. This seemed to have happened after applying dollar store degreaser on my drivetrain. Maybe it caused everything to dry up as u mentioned. Thanks for your advice! Much appreciated. Just need to buy a chain whip now grrrr.
