One year later it's time for an update on my 2018 BMW M2 LCi. What's it like to live with such a car, what are the running costs and what problems have I encountered in the past 12 months. And finally, time to sell it and move one?

I have almost the exact same car as you w/ heated steering wheel and w/o sunroof, have been enjoying it even with only 4000 miles for the 16 month period with no problems.

Awesome production quality mate and loved the drone work. Think you should keep the M2! I know what you mean about the HK sound system, I have the top whatever Harmon in my 3 series and no amount of playing with the settings can make it sounds good, at least you have a nice sound engine to keep you happy.

Coming from a person who loves music and used to work for bmw for two years and have test driven this car multiple times . The sounds system is great . Also i deff recommend getting the m performance exhaust
I highly recommend the Bavsound Stage 1 sound system upgrade over the Harmon Kardon. I installed it in my e46 and it sounded so much fuller. After switching to an e90 I immediately noticed where there was room for improvement in the sound quality despite it sounding better than my e46 overall. If this car decides to behave for the next 10-15k miles and I dont sell it I just might do the stage one for my 335 as well (although it is a bit more expensive).
We sold ours. For a 981 gt4 and a 135i with a locking diff. f87 for me one of the best cars i ever have driven. The new cars are just to digital for me.

Man, I am so happy with your M2 episodes. I will immigrate to Sweden soon for my job. This is my dream car. Here in Holland, where I come from, the M2 would cost me about 4,3K Euro per year for tax and insurance. Also when you consider average salaries. Dutch people earn about 10% less I would say. So being able to keep driving a car like this seems to be less common for Dutch people in general.
Don't worry about the heated wheel. I have it in my Z4 and I only use it when I drive with the roof open in the winter. No need for it in a coupe, never used it once when closed. Cars today have such good heating, they'll warm up in minutes.

I know I am quite late and all but I do have my I drive reset too (also says no signal)!!!! I have a 340 though. I only really have it reset when I have other passengers in the car so I am thinking maybe it has to do with the cellphone interference ?? no clue If anyone has any ideas let me know. Also great video I really enjoy to see when someone completely relies on a single car to go to work and everything. It isn't just a weekend warrior. Very honest review, Keep up the great work!!
The reset problem went away by itself in my car after a few weeks. Really weird :)

I don't know exact prices but I've read somewhere that it costs around 1000$ to replace all four disk and pads :)

Guys harmon kardon is one of the best sound systems in automobiles, just gwt the settings right, also we have B&W and or BOSE they are all good, dont punch holes on the HK before you fully exploit it...
I fully exploited it for 12 months. On BMWs it's not that good. And we don't have B&W or any other sound system on M2s. Just standard, some sort of hi-fi system and H&K

Yeah, different acoustics I guess. It also sounded great in a Mini I drove last year
I have HK in my M235. It’s not that special. It sounds much better in other cars like the 5 series and even the M4.
Even though the HK in my M2 is better, than the standard sound system in my previous 335i E92 I think it's lacking punch and power. Although I think it provides clear sound but something is missing..
You should look at the new Jaguar XE with the V6 engine ;) (not yet in Sweden, but soon)

@@TunedIntoCars Sorry my bad! Did you mount the winter tires on your rims you got from BMW? So you didnt buy extra "winter rims"? Just ordered my m2 competition this friday and wanted to know if thats a good way to do it or should i buy the whole set, rims and everything?
No, I didn't buy extra winter wheels. They wanted to sell me some 18" wheel for, wait for it, 30.000kr. My heart nearly stopped at that point :D
So I ended up buying 19" tyres for 10k and fitted them to the stock wheels. If you want to keep the car long term, I suggest you go buy extra wheels yourself, but not from the dealership.
What type M2 you own?
There's only one BMW M2. The other one is called the M2 Competition. So to answer your question I have the original M2 with the facelift
I really wanted to buy a competition but I dont want any more issues with German lemons. I was the owner of a MKV GTI it was the most expensive mistake of my life besides my ex lol.
But you're kind of contradicting yourself. In other comments you said you'd rather buy an RS3 instead of an M2 because of reliability but now you're saying the GTI was your most expensive mistake. Well Audi and VW are part of the same group and they share a lot of parts.

Not a single one :) There's not a lot of Police in and around Stockholm so they set up a lot of speed cameras. But they are properly marked so you can avoid them ;)

I honestly think youd be very happy with an audi RS3 4D since you have a family I'd be alot easier for them. And its fast as heck and alot cheaper then you unreliable M2COMP. Love your videos. Thanks for helping me make my decision. Now I cant decide between the ttrs or the Rs3. Lol😁
This is not an M2 Competition. But anyway, in Sweden the RS3 base price is the same as my car was with options. So for me, it's not worth it.
As I've said in my last comment, I'm not an Audi fan. They have fantastic engines and they're incredibly fast but they're not as fun as a RWD car
@@TunedIntoCars sorry no disrespect. I thought yours was an M2COMP. I was hoping to pick up one here in the states, stock 6speed runs around 61k. I heard lots of negativity wrapped around BMW. And I've seen them with my own eyes lots of problems. It's very scary for me to throw down 61k on something that's not very reliable. But that's just me. Thanks again for all your input I'm definitely learning alot about bmw. Dont get me wrong I'd love an M2Comp just wish they had better reliability is all my friend.
There's a lot of negativity everywhere. It's the internet :) I've had my M2 for almost two years with just one small issue that was fixed under warranty.
@@TunedIntoCars keep in mind, most bmw drivers that have issues usually go fast without letting the engine warm up, and they instantly turn off their cars without letting the turbo get rid of the oil so it doesn't clog. That's one of the biggest reason imo! Never had any problem with my 428 bmw! Done over 20k km with it.
@@Cliffracer46 true it’s the people that beat up their bmws and driven them hard without caring or maintaining it. I have a 318i e36 and although it’s only a n/a 4cyl it had 204k miles and I only had the problem of a bad starter but engine hasn’t failed me yet. 3 or more owners and I’ve driven it over 12k miles

hey man, here's how to fix your Harmon Kardan audio.... I felt the same about the Harmon Kardan audio system in my M2 UNTIL i finally found how to change the bass/treble/fader etc in the settings. Once I adjusted these settings the audio sounds WAY WAY WAY better, it's honestly a night and day difference. It wasn't intuitive to find these settings, and I can't believe BMW would have the stock settings on this stereo system set up so poorly. Hope this helps you and potentially other people watching this, and also have more m2 stuff on my channel too if you're a fan of the car.
That's the first thing I did. It helps a little but this EQ settings are too simple to get a good sound
Yes I felt the same, just max both treble and bass and it sounds much better. Bass sounds really deep and tight without overpowering the sound quality.
Saving my deposit for a 2018 M2 competition. Originally was planning to get a Nismo 370z but the M2 for practicality and as a everyday Car will be better. Will check out your previous videos to see how the M2 fairs as a daily driver.

Man it's crazy in Sweden to own a BMW. I've met so many people that had their steering wheels, airbags and navigation system stolen. The insurance for me who lives in Stockholm (Telefonplan) would be much more expensive like 3.000 euros per year. You probably live in a villa with a garage I guess?
No. I live in the city and I park the car on the street :) I guess the price depends on a lot of factors not just where you park the car

Why does everyone on YT have to modify their cars...Why can't you just be happy with what the M2 was out of the box. I'd kill to have your car as i'm now bored of GT86 ownership of nearly 4 yrs..
Why is that a problem? That people modify their cars.
I want to modify mine so I can fix some of the problems it has. Too firm of a ride and pretty poor brakes. I'd also like some new wheels because I want to leave this set with the winter tires one.
But I am perfectly happy with my car otherwise.
@@TunedIntoCars I just test drove an M2 lci but couldn't afford it. We have lots of pot holes here in uk and the ride was perfectly acceptable. Hahah you should try a GT86 pre facelift 😂😂😂

I think you were maybe too hyped about the car? The ride feels too 'jumpy' most of the time :) I don't mind a firm suspension but when driving it fast on B-roads, the back of the car jumps around too much instead of sitting planted on the road, to give you confidence to push. And a good suspension system will fix that.
P.s. I'm actually testing a Subaru BRZ for the week. It's pretty good, I love it!

Funny thing is i find that in my pre FL gt86, although ive heard the damping is a lot better on the new cars. Have we got to wait till the video to see what you think against the M2?
I have a 2018 M2 as well and I can agree on the the stock suspension of the rear feeling a little unsettling and not firmly planted when driving over uneven surfaces and little bumps. Changed out to Ohlins coilovers and the difference is immediately felt. Much more planted and doesn't jump around in the rear anymore.
