Repairing Taramps HD10000 Power supply

  • When i say for the last 5 years or so, I mean in making a noticable stance in the UK audio scene - im aware that full bridge class D design has been around much much longer with some brands doing stuff back in the early 90s.
    This Taramps 10K had common issues with power supply which, although not very pretty, has been resolved.

    nice amp, its a pain in the ass removing all the dead mosfets...it bothers me how you don't clean the board. you should always clean the old solder. i have repaired amps for years. trust me wipe down the board prior to reinstalling new components and use a power supply with a current limit just in case you accidentally short circuit any leads. thanks for sharing...damn you remind me of myself in my basement late nights...lol thanks!

    Two top tips; you can re-moisten solder paste with isopropyl alcohol, messy job though, wear gloves :) Also you can buy SMD discrete component "sampler packs" where you get a strip of about 20 of each value in a neat little organiser, damn handy for rework jobs.

    i plan to start designing my own power supplies and class d amps in due time when i get a scope, function generator, and a bench power supply
    one issue with making these things is the high frequency switching tends to jump gaps in mutually coupled lines which can lead to tons of noise, other than that the architecture is really simple, even more simple than class AB
    There's a diysmps forum that has a ton of useful information too, including a SMPS flyback transformer calculator program that is free

I also want to build a DC motor speed controller. for a EV project. about 600 amps at 72 vdc is a lot of power to play with. but I have no experience and self taught. The power transformer is not a very good design. The wire strands are too thick to support proper current flow due to high frequency skin effect. Also the cross sectional area of the primary winding is way too little, you need much more paralleled wire strands. I agree that Taramps does not put enough output and power supply MOSFETs, or use even better MOSFETs with lower Rds, probably a cost issue.

Mechman 400, two xs power titan 8's, dual runs of power and ground. Amp grounded to battery. frame, chassis, engine, and alternator ground. My fuses under hood are not blown and I checked with volt meter at the amp, i have power at the amp and remote wire has power. Any ideas what could be wrong? I had one repaired and for some reason it's not putting out power at Powers up and not in protect and wondering if you could tell me what to check? I don't see any burns on the board and no fets look Burnt. The last repair the man had to fix the gains and output fets and he's a professional at Freeman car stereo a Rockford Fosgate repair specialist. I sold the amp when working and dude hooked up a wire tester to the output and said it's Dead? Could he burnt it up hooking up a DC light tester to the output? I'm sure Jason Gibbs at Freeman car stereo did a great job on it but I just don't have the money to send it back to be looked at again. The TC35 had a double connection of solder creating a short. You can barely see it at 3:04. It create a nano resistance in diode 448A towards the IC which causes a surge in cap R598. It wont blow it out, but reverses the vacuum connectivity, if you will, and the solder reacts as a negative magnet of sorts making the thermistors and IC's give a drive wave of negative 5 plus 4 (obviously not adding up to 1). Next time, short the PC68 Cap and leg 2 and 6 of the 1I96 Stationary board and it will bypass the reaction board. You will get less Bass but the treble will be amazing. Also, This board was made in a factory in Nyflanigan during a drought where fish were abundant, but deceased. So, Fish oil caps from this region are highly suspect to fail. You will smell an odor if the caps pop. It may smell like your urine. Which means you need to drink more water.

    • @tammyforbes2101
      @tammyforbes2101 Před 6 lety

      Dude save yourself a waste of money and just save a little longer and get a Korean 5k you can think me later. The reason these Brazilians do so much power is there designed to run everything to the max that’s why you can’t abuse them without blowing them. The Koreans are not the are built extra tough and run not nearly as hard as the Brazilians. Think of them like cars the Brazilian is a cheap turbo 4 cylinder that’s running right near the red line all the time so push it any more or abuse it in any way it will blow and the Korean is like a big block that makes the same power but does it at 1/4 the redline so obviously it can last way longer as it’s not even being pushed hard. That’s why you can wire them lower and they will do more power and survive where a taramps would go poof. And it’s not that all Korean amps are good and all Brazilian amps are bad it’s more how and who builds them. Take for instance sound digital they have some realizable amps that can do massive numbers but you will pay more for them. And take the CT sound team 7k those things where going out left and right a year or so ago when they came out. Just do your research and don’t try and get 5k Watts for a couple hundred bucks and you will do fine. Hell technology has came so far even some of these cheap amps are decent now even if they don’t make huge power they still hold up ok.

    Any tips on how to fix a gain nob?

    • @baladar1353
      @baladar1353 Před 6 lety

      Gain KNOBs can be replaced, usually they are just variable resistors. Take some measures on it while spinning the knob carefully, and look for torn connections. If there are any dead points, you should change it. Be sure that the amp is not powered while you're doing any work on it.

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 Před 6 lety

      If you hape problem with gain its either potentiometer or preamplifier, if you dont know how to replace either of those i would suggest to get someone to look it up, fixing it without basic knowledge can lead to more damage but if you are willing to learn than give it a shot.
