A friend gave me his kitten when he moved. I had no interest, "what am I supposed to do with it? She just sits on the couch and stares at me? Whatever" . Cue to 2 months later coming home from work :"where's the boo boo? There's the prettiest girl!" I was hooked.

Yeah I had to laugh when the owner was going on about how high energy the little kitten was. It was exactly how active every single healthy kitten is! They are all completely bonkers and running around the house pouncing and chasing. I have loved all the cats Iâve had in my life and am grateful for the lessons each has taught me.
I suppose that cats, in general, are good pets. I know that I depend on my cats emotionally. They are an anchor of sanity and warmth in my troubled and uncertain life.

I was never a cat guy, and then my neighbor said that she was taking her cat back to the shelter. He was about 6 months and I was afraid he might be put down since most people want a little kitten to adopt rather than a grown cat. I told her I would take the cat and try to find him a home. I was never able to find him a home so Rudy is still here. That was 13 years ago.

We men really are romantics at heart. We just have to open it up first. That's tough nowadays.
I'm glad something like a cat's love can make you want to do so. Even some women can do that if they are caring people. I find it hard to open up as well.
Many people say they are not "cat people". But when you have an opportunity to be around a kitten it changes your heart. Its a beautiful thing.
Since I was a little kid I loved cats so much and I was the only person in my family who liked them. Today to my shock, my cousin has a cat and my sister and they loooove their kitties. They found both cats on the street too! So amazing the way cats just appear into your life !!

I wasnât a cat person, all my life I grew up away from cats, iâve always had this mindset where they just do whatever they want and you have no control over them and they didnât love you. One day my sister asked me to watch her house and feed her pets and I was so worried about the cat she had, but when I first met him he couldnât stop giving me headbutts. Everywhere I layed down heâd sleep on me purring loudly thatâs when my mindset broke. A couple months later my family got 2 kittens for the first time sadly one is no longer with us.
Thatâs usually cause ppl think cats have to be like dogs. But cats just communicate differently. They have stronger boundaries, get overstimulated very easily, and get defensive when you cross their boundaries. Dogs do that too but usually dogs vibe a lot better since their domestication is literally made to benefit us so they are more simmilar in behavior. Cats are predator animals though. And while they are social as well, they are just more like us. Aka they need compfort but wonât give it to you all the time cause sometimes they wanna be left alone as well, they have their own personality and patience level. And if you disrespect them or their boundaries, theyll warn you about it or start fighting you if you donât listen. Cats teach you to respect them. And to respect animals in general. My cats taught me to research my dogs behaviors too to better know their emotional world from their own language. Animals are different from us. And not every animal is gonna be like a dog. But if you respect them, and give them time and patience theyâll learn to love you back. My cat is very affectionate too for example. But he also needs his alone time. And we respect that. I even got him a privacy curtain for his cat tower so he can sleep in my room still compfortably. And he likes it a lot too!
Ppl like to frame us as delusional for âletting a cat dominate usâ but all that really is honestly is selfish human egomania where people wanna treat animals like their compfort slaves with no regard for the animals own compfort needs or boundaries. Like, animals are all individual and unique. And learning to respect them for their compfort and safety as well as a good relationship with them has nothing to do with getting dominated by a pet. Itâs not dominating to expect someone to respect your boundaries and understand that you donât wanna cuddle all the time. And it also kinda makes me sad too sometimes cause these ppl will frame cats like they are sassy and rude for hiding under the couch or something after they played with them too much where the cat literally has to hide in fear to be left alone just to get the person to stop harrassing the poor thing. Itâs not a cat being sassy or rude. Itâs not even about hating you. Itâs about wanting to be left alone and wanting to be respected for that basic need. And if someone is entitled in that situations itâs the humans imo cause true selfishness is ignoring a pets needs and love language differences, expecting every species to be a copy paste of dogs and then framing a scared and overstimulated animal as rude or sassy cause you mistreated them and now they feel threatened by you. Like those kinds of people annoy me so much. Ppl need to learn to respect their animals more. And in the age pf the internet, not learning about your petâs species specific social needs and language is basically a smaller form of neglect. If you chose to get a animal, you gotta do the bare minimum of understanding it at least. Cause you owe your pet that. No matter what species. Cause many dogs would benefit from âownersâ too if these people knew how to play with their dogs without constantly overstepping boundaries and stressing the dog. Animals deserve better from us. So we need to pit effort into them too. Not just expect to be catered to emotionally like we are some kind of god.
Really well said! Other things some people like to accuse cats of being is aloof, cold, and uncaring. Just because they donât jump all over you aggressively doesnât mean they canât be affectionate. Cats rub their faces and bodies against you, purr, cuddle up against you, and even give you little licks. Theyâre just usually chill and relaxed. Theyâre a completely different species, so of course you canât expect them to act the same! Bottom line is love can be expressed in many ways, but itâs still there. đ
Update: My mom went obssesed and overboard and now we own more than 30 Cats. Someone please save me.

Sometimes cats pick their owner. I'm saying goodbye to one of those special guys. My 20 year old Boo is just about done with his tour. He's been awesome. Glad he picked my daughter 20 years ago.

Strength and love to you all and Boo at this time.
Thats an amazingly long time! I wish you guys the best of luck. It's always hard to love and lose but in the end you never really lose, he'll be furever in your hearts & waiting on the rainbow bridge when its time to reunite. Best of luck! đđđŸ
Boo will always be held dear in my heart too.
I agree that cats sometimes pick their person.
I was only 7 years old when my fur-baby came into my life. He was my first ever cat and I loved him dearly.
I had him for 12 years.
12/24/2020 the day before Christmas he crossed over to the rainbow bridge to be reunited with his sister Symbol and his stepbrother Zephyr.
However Boo will always live on even he passes away. He'll always be with you and your daughter in the memories you three have shared together.
Yes it's hard when they live you after they have lived with their humans for such a long time but no matter what they'll always be there in the memories you have of them.
And in dreams that you may have of seeing Boo. I myself had dreams about my own Fur-baby Snare and all he did was smile and purr as I scratched his favorite spot, his cheek.
You will meet him again, my darling.

I was a dog person but I didn't used to hate cats, I just wasn't into them. Things changed when a stray started visiting me regularly. Initially, I used to feed her only milk or cheese but later came to know that adult cats can be lactose intolerant, so I switched to cat food. The only time she used to allow me pet her was when she was busy feasting on her food. It took a lot of patience and now months later she doesn't hesitate to rub herself against my legs and groom me with her licks. Well, cats are my adoration now. Tbh I'm writing this comment while Billie is chilling close beside me now. Precious moments.

Totally agree with you on the feeding them as a baby part. We'd had 3 cats when I was growing up/still youngish. My favorite was Lily, a stray black kitten who showed up on our porch in May of 2012, a week after my first episode of severe clinical depression when I was 19. We never planned on taking her in since we already had a sick elderly cat, Pixie, also solid black. But then in October when Hurricane Sandy took off, we brought her in. Unfortunately, she had feline leukemia (when we got her spayed, unfortunately we DID get her declawed, but only because our house is way too small, and she was WAY too wild and excited, to successfully keep her away from Pixie) and would only survive for 2 more years, with Pixie dying a year and a half later - and never catching the leukemia! That was the last cat we planned to bring in, as my mom's childhood allergies to cats became active again after being treated for autoimmune problems.
But now my mom has been living with my grandmother since she has vascular dementia and just needs that extra bit of help, and I have just stayed at home with my dad till I either meet the right person, or save enough to (successfully) live on my own! Well, my dad goes out to our old, dilapidated and junky garage to smoke, and heard little kitten "mews" coming from somewhere outside one morning in July 2021. Heard them throughout the day and saw one peeking out behind some junk its mom must have had it behind. He told me about it, and knowing that more than half the strays on our street seemed to disappear the day before, we went out to the garage to look for it! Well, that one found its way out from all the junk, with a second one, smaller and weaker, peaking out before also coming out and they both ran right up to us! They were just mewing and mewing, clearly hungry if they each were both mewing all day and brave enough to not even be afraid of us.
We took them in that night and then to the vet the next day, who estimated them to be 2 females around 4 weeks old based on their teeth - which is when they'd start being weaned from the mother in nature - the vet still recommended sticking to kitty formula for a couple weeks because they were both severely underweight for being 4 weeks old, and to bring them back a month later. Oh my goodness, I've never grown SO attached to a pet SO quickly!! The first one to appear we named Cali, since she had a MOSTLY grey coat with some white and brown that resembles a unique take on a Calico, and the smaller one got the fitting name of Minnie. They grew in no time, and while we tried to feed them on a 4 hour schedule, Minnie was usually hungry again after between just 2 & 3 hours. Turns out Minnie was actually a male (& Cali was female) and he was smaller & hungrier because he had worms - and was actually just too small to see his balls when we first took them LOL! So even as he was catching up in size to Cali faster than she was growing, and the fact that we're TOTALLY not creative, we just kept his name the same, only spelling it now as "Mini." Now they're both thriving, with Cali around 6 to 7 pounds and Mini around an incredibly ironic 12 to 13 pounds, which we have found to be an even better conversation starter than just simply having kittens.
TL;DR - I had to feed 2 kittens my dad and I found in our garage kitty formula by hand for a few weeks and agree that hand-feeding them creates an attachment so much stronger than I'd have EVER predicted!
Sorry this comment was SO long!! For some reason I can never seem to JUST mention finding or raising my 2 mischievous babies - in a comment or response to one - in a short or simple way without the need to include both HOW they were discovered AND the emotional attachment that hand-feeding them creates!!
I fed my bf's cat the first night she was alive as her mother died hours after giving birth. I remember being completely scared and willing her to eat and get big so she wouldn't be in danger of dying like three of her siblings did. (I think something went seriously wrong at the birth, but they never took her or the kittens to the vet. Frustrating.)

I agree. I fostered only one cat in my life because I couldn't give him up. If I continued fostering, I'd have 100 cats. I live in an apartment that wouldn't work.
Beautiful story đ The day after our beloved dog âGuero â passed away at age 13, my husband rescued a tiny kitten that ran under the car in front of him on a busy street. I was beyond sad and did not want a cat, my heart was broken and I couldnât open it to a new animal. I took care of him reluctantly because the shelter said they would put him down, he was too little and needed continuous care. The shelter was full because we had just had a flood. Fast forward six years, here he is sleeping next to me, I couldnât imagine life without him. I think he was sent to heal međđđŻđ

@Brenda G... Yeah its hard to love again totally for a while after grieving but it does return.

He's so dang playful and I LOVE it, and my favorite part was when they were giving each other some cute kitty kisses. Like, are y'all TRYING to melt my heart in lava with how CUTE this is???
Honestly, I think everyone who has a heart can become a cat person. Cats have evolved in such a way that they are just outright adorable with their quirkyness and their cute little noses and pointy ears and fluffy bellies. I think cuteness is their secret weapon, and it makes them incredibly successful in times where almost everyone of us needs their daily dose of emotional healing.
As for saying goodbye to a loved furbaby, it will 100% break my heart when my darling cat passes. But then my life would be so much sadder without my cat that I will never regret adopting her. She even makes my marriage more stable, because we both know it would break our kitty's heart should either of us no longer be part of her life. She's very attached to her human family, and I just want her to live the best life possible, even if that means I will have to let her go one day. She will forever be my first feline love, and I am just so very grateful to have her in my life.
Iâm watching this for probably the 100th time! I love every second, especially at 1:31 where Mat keeps swatting away his bottle. That wild paw action is HILARIOUS. What a spirited adorable little guy! đđ»â€ïž
It's funny how a little kitten can wrap even the biggest men around their little fingers if given a chance.
Hey i found this
Yup that is exactly what I was thinking. Lol
I know I'm convinced that all cats come pre-programed instincts that will do whatever is necessary to be adoptable.
No matter, how tough, can't have animals, don't like them, whatever the case... A little kitty will capture your heart and win every time, so nice
@Cat Raps whaaaaat?? Youâre dog would have eaten a baby kitten?? Dang
I love cats and dogs sooo much, but would welcome most animals (not keen on reptiles, spiders etc though!) it's just a matter of opening your heart and letting them in, they give so much, each animal has a different personality, how could you not love them? What a wonderful story...
That week old kitten mewling sound literally pulls every emotional string I have. Iâd spill state secrets because of that noise.
LOL đ€Ł. Good for you Big Red! And so would I, so would I!!
Lol!
I can relate to that đ
I found my first cat at the humane society. I went in looking for a dog and this kitten saw me and went crazy. I asked to see her and she immediately wrapped her legs around my neck, meowed like crazy, then started purring. I told my wife she's coming home with us. She's been gone almost 30 years. I miss her.

Eddie, my late husband and I had a female cat named Braveheart, who passed in February 2017. She was the best and we loved her so much. When my husband passed, it was so hard, because it was May 2017, and 3 months after Braveheart. The cats I have now help me so much though as do my family!

Most ppl who say they âarenât cat pplâ just really donât know cats. Cats can be fantastic pets and companions. They know when youâre down or sad or sick. I love dogs too but I love cats!!
I agree with you 100%. I too...Did not see myself owning a cat, but last January 2020 (right before the pandemic) , I found a kitten abandoned on my building's stairway...and took her in overnight...due to the freezing weather. Well...the rest is history. She's been with me all this time. Shots, microchiped & all, and has been a great companion especially during this pandemic. My heart†is now in a totally different place. I cannot see myself without her. Great therapyđș cat for me.
I do know cats, but im not a cat person. My mother had cats, my grandma had a cat.. My neighbours.. So many people I know and I knew their pets. I liked the cats but than a cat bite me really bad and now Im really afraid of them. Im not a cat person at all now. (I have a dog now, which I rescue from an animal shelter.)

I think quite a bit of us "not cat people" end up being cat people. I'm an animal lover but was raised with dogs and with a parent that swore he was allergic to cats. My dad even kept up the ruse up until I got my first girl kitty (she was my second cat). I'll never forget the day I came home to find my dad trying to get the kitten out from under the bed...allergic my ass. lol. Even funnier, a year later, my parents got their first kitten. You are so right, they just haven't been picked by their perfect cat :)
