U know it's actually frustrating like you have the squad but you don't know how to use it and England like to sit back like yo we're not Sheffield utd what is the problem with England other countries play to win France Portugal Germany they all play to win so the real f ing question is does England want to win the euros does Southgate want to win the euros
Rice was signed as a DM, but as the season went on he showed that he was more comfortable and simply better at pushing forward. In this case, Southgate isn't wrong in saying that he didn't have a replacement for Kalvin Philips, what with Wharton and Mainoo a bit too raw. What I would have suggested would be to push Stones up into CDM, which IIRC he did rather well for Man City when Pep Guardiola pushed him to step up into the midfield. But that means completely fielding a new back pair, since Southgate has relied almost exclusively on Maguire and Stones. With the much (and rightfully maligned) Maguire ruled out due to injury, Southgate doesn't have the cojones (or at least, afford) to do that. This is why, in retrospect, the omission of Dier was quite baffling. Dier had a relatively good end to his Bayern Munich season and has experience in the international level. If you wanted to look at club familiarity, then the duo of Branthwaite and Tarkowski plus Pickford should also be worth mentioning.
But no point hypothesizing about what could have been now. I honestly think that Southgate needs to drop TAA and field a proper CDM (my pick is Wharton).
Has anyone ever considered, hear me out here.. that maybe, just maybe.. 4-2-3-1 is not the formation for England? It’s like they are scared to play football. Also Trippier at LB is a complete disaster. 😑

They played like a League One team that gets a lucky 1-0 against a PL club in the 10th minute of an FA cup game. They scored the goal and immediately started defending with 10 men in the box instead of just play on and try to score a 2nd goal.

Love how England fans, domestically and internationally, immediately hate on the manager before anybody else. I understand some decision making isn’t great but at the end of the day the players on the pitch should be outperforming a team like Denmark with 0 coaching and you cannot argue that.

We were absolutely shambolic. I’m scared that we won’t make it to the quarter finals if we keep playing like this. Tactics were beyond questionable, wrong players starting and no intensity throughout playing park the bus fc after we score, we go into hiding. Kane decided to play cdm, Trent can’t play midfield, get rid of Foden because he’s utterly useless, Jude was no where to be seen, palmer looks miserable on the bench. Southgate keeps getting away with his poor performances!!! THINGS NEED TO CHANGE! So many new talents this season and they’re sitting on the bench!!!
World class players become mediocre under Gareth Southgate.
