    I actually really like the burning building scene as it showed that Peter was still very brave and determined to do the right thing, no matter how much he tried to abandon his life as Spider-Man. Only for life to deal him another cruel hand by revealing that not everyone got out of the building safely, and if he were Spider-Man he would have saved everyone.

      Peter's selflessness has been established several times over. We really don't need a second copypaste burning building to tell the audience.

      @@Aggrofool I disagree. I think this was essential to the movie. Despite not having his powers any longer and making the choice to not be Spiderman, he saved the little girl not as Spiderman but as Peter Parker. He still has the desire to help others despite not wanting to continue on as Spiderman as it is affecting his personal life. I think it further adds to the internal conflict he has with whether or not he’s doing the right thing.

      It wasn't just to establish Parker's need to help people, but the more important part of that scene was the end when the firefighter says that someone else still died in the fire. It enforces the idea that if he was Spiderman he would've been able to save that person. The scene is the core reason why he tries to get his powers back.

      Iron man was incredible. But thats greatly due to RDJs oscar worthy performance as Tony Stark. To be fair now that I think of it EVERYTHING in this movie evolves around RDJs acting (not even Tony Stark himself). Same could be said for the oh so glorious beloved and overrated as fuck The Dark Knight where 80% of the movie revolves around the Joker and 20% Double Face. Even Batman himself lacks so much charisma and for some weird reason Batman movies never feel to have good endings. Still its a MUUUUUUUCH better movie than Batman Begins which I absolutely hated personnaly except the very very ending with the Joker card.

    • @sayr8843
      @sayr8843 Před 7 lety +6

      necrosplatful Dude, Dark Knight is overrated but it's praised because it's actually original, and Batman never had a decent non-animated movie in a long time. The Dark Knight helped Batman become more recognizable to the mainstream audience as the good Batman movies that released were quickly outdated. This movie did the best job with developing Bruce Wayne as a character like no other Batman movie had ever done. While the Batman sequences weren't the best, they were good enough and some of the scenes are actually epic, like in Batman Begins where he becomes Batman, he takes down a bunch of criminals secretively which builds tension in wondering how Falcone will eventually be victimised by Batman. The darkouts in the scene are really effective and is eeriely captivating. The scene with the Joker where he beats the shit out of him when he's captured in TDK is iconic as hell too. Christian Bale is a good Batman but Keaton is the best one IMO, wish he had more speech with Batman, because when he does it gives me goosebumps.

    The burning building scene is perfect. It shows that Peter will always want to help people regardless if he’s Spider-Man, without his powers he’s still a hero.
    MJ being harsh about Peter missing her play is more about the principal. He makes promises he can’t keep, and breaks them over and over. So she feels let down constantly by him, and probably feels he’s never honest about why he can’t come.
    I think this is one of the best superhero movies of all time, and sequels. Amazing complex villain, fleshes out the characters. Amazing action, drama, comedy and creative, ambitious scenes like the hospital scene and the raindrops scene. Sam Raimi is a genius.

Guardians of the Galaxy was okay, Deadpool was brilliant, Civil War was...okay. The only part that was really good was the end fight scene. Iron Man was alright, the ending always disappointed me, but that's probably because the villain wasn't that strong of an influence in the movie. Avengers is brilliant as well. My mom even bought me the Spider-Man toy set with the train and Doc Ock. I still watch this movie at the least 10 times a year and Spidey has become my favorite superhero and it inspired me to start reading the comics and I totally enjoy them! I know Chris mentioned Aunt May sorta having a hint that Peter is Spider-Man, but I think the same clearly applies to MJ, since the end of the first film. Although he says he was just a friend, after he leaves, she touches her lips feeling like she had kissed him before. Immediately after she speaks to her fiance about Peter Parker (not Spider-Man, mind-you) she has him recreate the upside down kiss she shared with Spider-Man. Even when she asks him if he loves her and she responds "I don't", she isn't buying it right away and asks him to kiss her. Once she sees it's Peter, it's not just surprise, but it was relief that she had. She says "I think I always knew" which we believe, because there were so many hints that she had a suspicion about it. Really love that.

    On the "MJ's harsh reaction to Peter missing the play" situation, I think it was actually very good. I think MJ was giving one last chance with the play. The play was not just a play. MJ was already so broken from the whole situation. She loves Peter, and she can see that Peter does too, but he won't admit it, but he still doesn't fully let her go. He never gives her the space to move on with her life (though he should, since he has decided that their relationship could never come to be) which, funnily enough is so well explained by Aunt May in Spider-Man 3, when she basically gives him the simplest advice ever : if you truly love someone, think of them instead of yourself. She needed to move on and finally breathe, and he wouldn't let her. I think the bias of thinking that MJ was being too harsh comes from the fact that WE know how conflicting Peter is feeling and how hard everything is for him and how knowing that MJ is -to some extent- still there, somewhere, waiting for him, is the one last thing giving him strength, but SHE doesn't. So from her perspective, she is just trying to survive a never-ending torture based on love.
    I think that the whole point of that aspect of the movie wasn't to make their love flourish in any way, or even make him realise that she is that almighty power that he needs to really be Spider-man. I think the whole point, as we saw when he lets her go and the astronaut guy runs to her, was to understand that he had to be at peace with himself to be Spider-man, and that meant to stop holding on for dear life to something that, from his point of view, could never be.

    The Burning Building scene is tantamount to the story in 2. It's the event that really makes Peter rethink his decision to quitting being Spiderman. Because some people didn't make it out of the building, but he thinks to himself, that if he would have been Spiderman and been at the building quicker, he would've been able to get more people out, possibly all of them. If you didn't have that in it, you wouldn't have the scene where he's standing there, rethinking his decision to giving up being Spiderman and realizing that as Spiderman, he could save lives. As Peter, though, he can't. Or not as many. He realizes that the world really does need Spiderman, then Rosemary Harris's speech about the world needing Spiderman and people in general, makes up his mind that Spiderman really does have to come back. So anyways, as I said, the Burning Building scene was very important, unless you meant we didn't need another burning building and could have had something else take it's place, but he needed some event, some disaster, something to make him feel guilty and have to rethink his decision.

    6:00- "A director who just says 'This is my style. Deal with it.'" Yes to this a thousand times!!! That's how filmmaking should be, especially with large-budget films. Directors and writers should be allowed to fulfill their visions for a grandiose story with minimal studio interference. That's how you really reach an audience, by being true to your creative sensibilities.Today everything is so committee-driven and monitored that scenes like the hospital massacre and the "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" wouldn't make the cut because the higher-ups think it's "weird" or "out of place".

    Sam Raimi has this unprecedented knack for getting us into the emotional mindset of an imaginary character on screen. Its not about what is actually happening, or what the audience feels is happening but what the main character emotionally feels is happening.
    I dont know of any other filmmaker that pulls this off so well.

    • @veloc.raptor9136

      Also concerning your criticisms here are my views;
      1. I think MJ really loves Peter and its clearly not the first time he missed her show. She has trouble believeing in herself and is really sad and angry when Peter disappoints her. Think of a daughter whose father who she loves always fails and embarasses her.
      2. I think Aunt May:
      - either is a little happy that Peter protected himself. She does not want him to be reckless
      - knows Peter from before and isnt really surpirsed he seems weak and cowardly but still loves him and knows he has a good heart
      - Or maybe she sort of knew he was spiderman… which is why her "backtalk" after they beat Doc Ock seems plausible because she seems to be patronising a bit, like an aunt who is annoyed at her nephew who she knows is lieing to her.
      3. The fire house and kid saving is both to have some action but also to show that Peter is still spiderman inside. Still wants to selflessly help out. Its foreshadowing that he will never be able to stop being spiderman

    Spider-man 2 is my all time favorite super hero movie. It's not the best (that is arguably reserved for The Dark Knight) but it is my favorite. My favorite scene that you didn't touch on but a little bit; was when he finally stops the train. Right before jumping on the front of the train, his mask get's damaged and he has to remove it. After that, he has no issues with showing his face to the passengers on the train. What's really interesting is that he so easily falls into that. The theme of the film is that he is having issues as to who he wants to identify. Spider-man or Peter Parker. In that one moment, he stopped caring if people see his face or not. He made the decision to be Spider-man.

    The burning building scene is actually a character defining moment. It shows that Peter is a hero with or without his powers and has a kind heart which makes him help people even when his powers are suppressed due to mental conflict. It reflects back to the burning building scene in the first movie where he helps save a child while having his powers but he helps save the kid in the sequel too even when his powers are lost thereby showing that he is still the hero, with or without his suit & powers.

To be honest, he had no real reason to break up with Nicole. Even in the scene itself, Nicole found it ludicrous. And it would bite Andrew in the ass later when he finds out that she moved on and found a new boyfriend.
      But I think its a good scene because, there are people who are crazy enough to do something like that in real life. People who would throw away money, family, even love, for the sake of pursuing perfection/professionalism.
