The Big Bonanza * Xanadu Pleasure Dome * David Rose

Still on the Ponderosa.....I believe from 1969 through to 1971 the theme to Bonanza was revamped by David Rose, of whom had been the resident arranger and composer for the show from the start. This new theme was titled "The Big Bonanza", but was never (as far as I know) released on a vinyl by David for some unknown reason, because I actually prefer this over the original. This version arranged and conducted by Sydney Dale was first released in the US in 1970 on Capitol Records, and went under the artist title of Xanadu Pleasure Dome? And is (again as far as I know) the only recorded version in full. More selections from this album will follow, but most are vocal songs and I believe have no connection with the show.

This was played as the theme music for the Big Barry's restaurants on Long Island in the 70s. !!!

David Rose wrote the incidental music for "Bonanza" from the beginning, but the original theme song (which as far as I remember was never included in the background scores) was by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans (Buttons And Bows, Que Sera Sera, Mona Lisa, Tammy and others.)

Such a great tune conducted by the late Sydney Dale. This album was recorded at CTS London with engineer John Richards.
All the tracks on both albums were connected with the series. I have the details on file.
This theme was used for later episodes of Bonanza before it's run ended. The ones with Mitch Vogel as Jamie Hunter .

Cheers Gareth, I had forgotten about that theme until I heard it again, bought back memories, just wish Rose recorded his own version, though this one is superb all the same and was the sole reason I bought the album.
