- 🔶 Empire at War is most commonly known for their Galactic Conquest game-modes. However, there is one gamemode that is overlooked, that being Skirmish mode. Charlie breaks down his best approaches to overwhelm the opponent player with aggressive tactics that are hard to react to.
The game featured is called Empire at War: Thrawn's Revenge, and is one of the Empire at War Expanded series. It is one of the most popular Star Wars Empire at War real time strategy mod currently. In regards to the units moving at the same speed as the slowest unit I believe if you double click the move order instead all units will go to the designated move spot at their own speed instead of the speed of the slowest ship. So no need to select the fighters and bombers separately if you want them to go at their own speeds. :)
I enjoy Skirmish a lot more than GC. It’s way faster paced, also if you think the New Republic has “early game dominance” you should try the neutron bulk cruiser for the Zsinj’s empire and the corporate sector authority. That is the best per credit ship (currently) in the mod and it’s tech 2. Although my favorite faction is the empire of the hand
I always play as the empire and destroy my 2 friends in skirmishes in 1v2s. If you play it right by getting corvettes and acclamators off day the bat you can secure your victory.
The Republic at War mod is excellent in my opinion, when it comes to Skirmish mode...
My favorite faction is the New Republic as well. It's easier for me to head-ram a bunch of Frigates and Corvettes, and then bring in the 3 MC80 Home One Type's I have made since they are super cheap to build.
My favorite faction is actually the Empire of the Hand. Their unique lineup of units makes them a fun faction to play. And in GC they may have a secure starting position and the godlike abilities of Thrawn in Era 1, but Kaine and his executor tend to become a threat immediately upon his arrival at week 20. Add that to the constant harassment from the NR in the south, and their starting situation is the perfect mix of precarious and advantageous

Great vid man. A few things
Not all factions have a carrier in tech 1 (PA and CSA I don't consider the gladiator a carrier) and also have a different roster for tech 2, 3, 4 and 5
The strategy as you said is not applicable to every map

@Eckstoo, when I started out with this game, I also was a purely skirmish player
I am actually a big CSA player, since I like to play GC. I like the Fact that the CSA has a lot of scattered types of ships and no direct back bone of all forces.

My friends always 2v1 me and I really enjoy these strays when I now destroy them.
My favorite factiin is the penestar aliment because of the venators that makes that faction feel the trasito9ning from the republic to the Empire

I still prefer the Eriadu Authority.
That's why in my mod I added shields to the asteroid. Perhaps replacing them with pirate asteroid base plus income is a good idea.

Hello, i put this on ecks latest live stream video. But is there any chance you will do any total war campaigns/ battles or any bannerlord. If you do i recommend napoleon, rome 2 or medieval 2.

As a person looking at the game, I have 2 questions.
1) as a fan of rts’ should I buy the game
2) what is a good faction or campaign to start as to learn the ropes
As he said, the New Republic is the best faction to start with. They have nice ships and fighters. And if you want to learn, at first play skirmish. After that, try a galactic conquest that maybe just has 30 planets
The game is amazing! I think it is one of the best RTS games I have ever played. I think the space tactical battles are some of the best designed combat I have seen in rts games. I love how you are a commander of the whole battle and can give your units order that can change the outcome of the battle. It’s not just watching an Ai control your fleet as it fights another Ai. It is an old game, but the mods are still amazing despite that.
Buy the steam version because that is the version all the mods use and you can get all the mods on steam too. The mod Charlie is playing is called Thrawn’s Revenge. It is my favorite mod. To play it you will need to buy the forces of corruption version of Empire at war then install the Thrawn’s Revenge mod. There is also a Clone wars mod called fall of the republic that is just as good. Cory, the developer of this mod and FoTR, has a video on how to install the mod on his channel “Cory loses.” Cory also has a video about how you can change the settings on modern CPU’s to get the best performance out of the game.
I agree with the other reply to you question. A small galactic conquest of like 30 planets or so would be a good place to start. A few skirmish battles on easy would be a great way to figure out the controls. On easy in skirmish the Ai doesn’t do very much at all. So you can just mess around. I love the scale of the big gigantic 100+ planet galactic conquests because they are basically like a big sandbox. They are great to have fun with once you know the controls. I am getting into the smaller story Galactic campaigns and I am loving the story events Cory and the rest of the development team have incorporated from starwars legends.
I think the new republic is a great place to start. They were the first faction I played and I loved it. The Mon Calamari home one cruisers are very survivable which is nice early game. The new republic also has the best fighters. It is also fun to play as the good guys. However their territory is very spread out. The pentastar alignment and the greater maldrood are popular. I really like the Empire of the Hand. They have interesting ships and powerful ground units and the fastest retreat time so hit and run tactics are really easy with them. Really any faction in this mod is fun to play.

Control both sides
There already is in the empire at war expanded mods... except controlling both sides, still gotta deal with hair-brained AI

My favourite faction is the Remnant under Palpatine.
At the moment I'm playing the Pentastar Alignment in Galctic Conquest and it makes a lot of fun to play. But it's the first time I am playing Glactic Conquest so I don't know much about the other factons yet.
Fav faction is probs the greater maldrood. their crimson victories are amazing when used in combination with various other ships the faction has access to.

Had a quick question on fps. I always get low fps in the game and the gpu is never at the standard frequency and way below and the usage is incredibly low. How do I get the fps to be normal.
My main problem w EAW is how the ships just fly up to each other and stop. They just sit there... no manuevering to avoid fire or get more guns on the opponent, they just fly up and sit there. I just cant get passed this whenever i try to get back in to it

Skirmish is superior to GC in my opinion but if I do play GC I play as the Pentastar alignment and generally take over the north defeating CorSec, Zsinjes empire, and whatever NR and IR forces are still in the north or have fought their way north. After that, I'll push south starting in the outer rim and then push through the mid rim then push to the core and then take Couresant
