  • I wanted to try my old 2 year old kapton tape with some aluminum and make a ribbon that i will house in an older design planar push pull variant i made a year ago(Neo v10 videos, not the B&G) also wanted to try this braking track. i will make another one soon without it so we can see if it hurts or benefits from it .. who knows ? :)
    Part 2 has a fast dirty measurement and some test with music and what i like and dislike about the design. and a talks about max spl vs xmax and frequency used.

    Can I ask a crazy design question? Would it be possible to make a hexagonal shape or even....shaped like a dragonfly's wings? I have some design ideas but no practical knowledge.
    I do appreciate your skill. Very well done!

      Thanks ! , you could yes. bit heavy though. and in this case the kapton is a bit to thick and the impedance to low since it was made for a speaker output

    I like your successful cut of this ribbon. As mentioned very similar to the Infinity EMIT design. Your Yellow film is not Kapton. It is probably labelled as Kapton but I am sorry to tell you that true poly-amide film is available in Black and Brown only. I have worked with quite a bit of it. Again you probably know this. You have polyester film. It is widely used by the 3 producers of planar diaphragms in China. And they all sell yellow polyester (Mylar is a trade name) as being Kapton. And truthfully Polyester makes a better sounding diaphragm than Kapton anyway. PET is better yet. Regarding the film on the EMIT tweeters. I have seen them in great detail. It to is Polyester. I like your application of the plotting of the foil pattern. Years ago I worked as a graphics designer for a while and the company did a lot of work on plastic films. I weeded out enormous amounts of waste material. So perhaps a little advice that could help you. when you are pulling the waste material get the waste part as close to the table top as you can. It allows better control and little to no lifting of the parts you want to stay glued down.
    Your tension method is good. But to make it repeatable is the key. You already know this.

    • @joppepeelen
      @joppepeelen  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there well nice input as always !!! yeah i wondered yesterday about the kapton. i used a PCB rework station at only 180-200c ( i am not to sure what it was but i was suprised).... and you know what ? it shrinked . i was like wtf ?
      i ordered 0.5mil kapton (25 micron) tape a few days ago and canceled it... because i do think this one is real from caplingq.. price is also rather different 94 euro for a roll of tape including shipping.... so i canceled that order.. to much for me for a roll of tape. i just like you agree kapton does not bring all that much in terms of sound quality. and i am bussy showing it does not matter much if you use mylar. because often distortion already ruins you tweeter before you have thermal issues. but we will see :)
      thanks for the tips !
      now i am off plotting a new design. i probably gone ditch the corrugation though :( its screws up efficiency and not much benefits except for making them :)
      fot the tensioning of that ribbon version i made a jig that uses weights to pull it to the same dimensions and tension. but i ditched the corugation completely for now.

      @@joppepeelen I have purchased from Caplinq to. It is expensive. Your magnets may also not be what is claimed. The only way to know is to purchase a gauss meter. They are available for about $100 USD. We should talk sometime. You can drop me an email. If you have gmail we could talk via Hangouts. Many ideas you have, maybe I can help you polish a few of them. I like watching your adventures. I honestly learn a few things from you. And this is good. Pretty much what CZcams is for !

    Hoi Joppe, Ik heb je kanaal net gevonden. Dit is echt fantastisch! Zou je zo ook een hoofdtelefoon kunnen maken? Ik heb een hele oude Philips hoofdtelefoon wat volgens mij ook zo werkt. Zou dat te doen zijn voor een beginner?

    • @joppepeelen
      @joppepeelen  Před 3 lety

      zon soort driver zou prima kunnen als koptelefoon ja. of het te doen is als beginner ligt er een beetje aan over welke vaardigheden en of gereedschappen je berschikt. het principe is niet zo moeilijk. het hebben van een plotter (of 3d printer waar je een plotter mesje aan maakt) is wel een must de rest kan anders opgelost worden

      @@joppepeelen Helaas heb ik geen plotter of 3d printer. Ik zag net wel op Marktplaats dat er bij mie in de buurt zit die dit soort werk kan doen. Dat zou eventueel een optie kunnen zijn. Op termijn wil ik wel een keer een 3d printer aanschaffen maar nu heb ik andere prioriteiten. Een soldeerstation heb ik wel. Ook ben ik redelijk handig met zelf dingen maken. Ik ga me er eens in verdiepen want dit spreekt me erg aan.

    Kapton foil 0.07mm were first used by Arnie Nudell-Infninity-Genesis, in a late 1960, for all his EMIT, EMIM, SEMIT, LEMIM...but i am pretty sure that you knew that already. Google Arnie-s history, you can get more info for materials and structure of, Electro Magnetic Induction Drivers
