Reading some of the comments regarding how the power is insufficient and such, and think that we should probably re-adjust our expectations for EVs in the going forward. The Scenic for instance is a "cheap" family car, after all. Not necessarily a pin-you-to-your-seat sports car 😉
Full disclose, I've ordered one. Big battery Techno, with the "First Edition" goodie package. It will be replacing my aging Volvo V70 T4F (180 hp/240 Nm). The most interesting thing to me is that the V70 and the Scenic have almost identical dimensions, with the Scenic being a bit shorter on account of the engine compartment mostly. But pretty much the same width, height, and weight(!). The V70 has not been the most inspiring car, for sure. But it was never really meant to be, I suppose. But it has also always offered up more than enough power when needed. So, for me at least, it's going to be quite, shall we say, exciting to be adding 40 hp and 60 (electric) Nm to what essentially amounts to the same car I'm currently driving. Only with more everything 😁
Nice choice! Hope you get it soon.
I don't think the power is insufficient. It actually feels pretty nippy.
Very nice! Like the renault interiors. They have jumped up the ladder in design and quality and does NOT look Chinese.
Yes, they have achieved a good balance of the interior
This is the only ev that has caught attention that I’m 90% certain that I’ll be ordering it this week. The other 10% is waiting for the alpine to be available in grey as it’s currently only showing availability in black.
I think this is a good choice 👏
Riktigt bra video och bra bil!👍
Tack Thomas! 👍🙏
I really like it. Awesome ar, and awesome review. I would rate the car a sold 8/10. Never driven one of these actually despite talking about EVs every day and I try to drive them all.
It's nice to have the large battery too, especially so you don't have to stress about the harsher winter conditions so much. Takk for videon :)
Thanks mate! 🙏
Grymt bra video. Funderar på att köpa en Scenic då den gav ett mycket bra intryck vid provkörningen.
Tackar! Riktigt trevlig bil är det,!
Placed my order last week in the UK. We can only get the solar bay on the iconic version of the car, which I think is a shame, but tbh, the iconic pack with the 360 camera and the 9 speaker system made it a clear winner. I did consider the Toyota BZ4X but the range was awful, plus no glove compartment.... What's that about?
The scenic I believe is 9 out of 10. The software, interior and innovations are great. My negative is no kick on the boot. You can open with the remote, but a kick sensor would have been ideal. In terms of innovations, they could have allowed the car to have solar recharging capabilities, or have the panel aid with interior equipment. I believe toyota prius had an option of a solar panel on their later models. Apart from that I can't fault the scenic
Nice choice 👏👏
Thank you for yet another to-the-point and theatre-free review.
I was wondering FWD is not a negative score for this car. I am asking because in previous reviews (can't remember exactly which one) you've noted that RWD are generally better suited for EVs mainly because of the batteries' weight. I'd appreciate your comment on this🙏
Thanks! I always prefer RWD especially if the car is heavy. FWD limits the possibilities for things like more power, hard to keep the wheels to the ground and understeers. But I think the scenic manages it ok, since it's not too heavy and powerful.
Great test, but I missed the charging curve and consumptions on different speed.
This is the review. Another video with some goodies on the way.
Even France is doing better EVs than the US
Everyone is doing everything better than the US 👍
Waiting for you to test the next one the R5 as soon as you will be able to, but don't even try the back seat with your mensurations. 😄 This small car is not for giant, at least in the back. But it will be perfect for a small guy like me. 1m67🤪.
But anyway when you will test it, I would probably had ordered one, but still it will be interesting to hear what you have to say. It has everything included on he upper level, the only options are paint, high end sonorisation, and some others stickers here and there, and also if we want to change the rims. So nothing changing the driving experience. For a small car like that it also have level 2 driving assistance same than the Scenic and Megane. It doesn't have the 360 view but it's a small car so not a big deal and anyway it has sensors all around, so it's enough.
That's a car I'm looking really forward to. I'm in contact with Renault. So I'll get it as soon as it is available
@@ItsOnlyElectric Some talk about medias test end of July but the car will be in concessions in October. Since the real production didn't start yet, I guess it could be on pre-production models.
I think it’s really nice car, especially the infotainment system 🙂
Efficiency and infotainment are two very big ++.
I tried it and it's very nice indeed ! it's consumption on highway is way too high so it loses the big battery advantage and charges very slowly... It's also FWD so pretty bad at accelerating from a standstill. the interior quality is okay at best but I heard a lot of rattling in the doors in just 30 of driving on highway, also not reallywell sound insulated... What I disliked the most is its dynamism... the damping is way too soft to be used in dynamic driving... The Xpeng G6 for the same price offers twice the performances, less consumption, charges 2 times faster, is way more comfortable and has better seats and sound insulation... Even a Model Y SR+ offers the same range on highway with 27kWh less...
@@ItsOnlyElectricthe down point for me is the DC charging speed, especially with such a battery pack
Looking forward for when the 800v architecture will kind be of a standard
@SeeliLeck3r yes agree. For a smaller pack that speed is ok but gör a ch a big one really not
Out of all the cars you have tested, which would you choose as your only car if money was no object?
A question I get slot but so hard to answer. Of course very dependent on your situation. But for me, a family of four. A EL6 with the upcoming 150kwh pack would probably be my current best choice. But the market changes rapidly.
Are you doing a similar test with Xpeng G6?
I have one more video in store for the G6, coming zoon. Will probably test it again in august for more tests.
How does it compare to the E3008?
Don't know yet. But I'm gonna find out
i noticed in 16:46 that some of the the O number is behind the rest of the graphics..its looks weird :) is there any way to change the cluster themes or will i be forced to watch that numbers in the weird way ? :)
If I remember it correctly there's one thene that shows the full number.
@@ItsOnlyElectric cool because the one in the video is very disturbing :)
@marcinb3594 ok. I actually liked the esthetics of it.
What would be a better choice Tesla model Y or Renault Scenic e-Tech 2024?
Model Y is a bit more practical (bigger boot) and has better fast charging. Scenic more traditional car with a more European attitude if you prefer that.
@@ItsOnlyElectricTesla owned by a far right nutjob if you want to help fund him ...
Model Y is twice the price to lease in the U.K.
i use my car once a week for "long" trips and then the rest of the week its sort trips to the store. Can a EV support that?
Yes, more than enough. 🙂
@ItsOnlyElectric thanks you I was afraid that the battery would not like that :)
@tjokkerstar1462 feels like a pretty normal behavior. How long is your weekly long trip?
You forgot the Zoe which was also a proper electric car. So this is their third full EV.
By the way I ordered one. Test driven and I think it's a great family car. It will be my first EV so looking forward to the experience.
Nice! The scenic or the Zoe?
@@ItsOnlyElectric Ah the Scenic. Went for the base model with some option packs and the nice red colour.
@user-dx4jw8pg6m nice! Congratulations 🎉
I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max which I don't have a cover on, and my experience on the Megane E-Tech is that the phone is sliding around on the wireless charging pad, so it often moves out of the charging area so that I have to adjust the position of the phone on the charging pad so it can charge.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I can see it's the exact same wireless charge here.
I tested with my pixel pro 8 with rubber cover. S lot of friction so it stays put .
If your phone is too slippery, just add some additional rubber in the charging area. But that is weir because the charging area is already in some kind of rubber, maybe it needs some cleaning if their is too much dust on it.
Great review as always, thank you for including all the specs, on the car, The car for me is rated 6, the biggest issue being, the price, the French brand(s) need to understand the entry into EV´s are highly competitive, and I just don´t think it will sell, at least not in northern Europe.
Hopefully they will come to that conclusion and lower the price.
It depends if the other cars offer the same for less or not.
It only depends on the consumer's willingness to pay that price, nothing else matters.
I think with the battery size and all the equipment you get, as well as the best infotainment system on the market the price is extremely competitive. Most other cars with such a big battery and therefore range are way more expensive. There really only is the Tesla Model Y and the XPeng. But both of them have less range. And the Xpeng is only available in norhern europe, so here in Austria where I'm from the Tesla is the only alternative and for some reason the Renault is a bit cheaper here
It's a detail, but what's going on with this huge key??
Ugliest key fob in the industry
Renault plans to integrate a smart key to their Android/iOS app, but it's not ready yet. Not sure it will become available on the first vehicules with an update, or if only the future series will be concerned.
@donquilmi good info 👍
I don't understand the criticism of the key! Bc of the thin design you can't feel the key at all in your pocket and you don't need to get it out at all for opening/closing the doors or driving, so that it is a bit bigger doesn't have a negative effect. Classic keys which are smaller but thicker are way more noticeable in your trouser pockets, therefore I really don't like them. Looks are obviously personal preference but I think it looks good, while for example the keys of the Ioniq 6 I think is crazy ugly and looks so cheap you would think it is from a Dacia or something and the Ioniq is more expensive. But again looks a personal preference, but the practicality of the Renault key is definitely better
I like the design, very stylish from Renault.
Thank you for pointing out the successful attempt to save weight with thin interior plastics. It still doesn’t convince me that manufacturers could do more to eradicate scratchy hard plastics from their interior designs, one of my pet hates in any car.
I feel it is usually done as a penny pinching measure by the company bean counters and it’s a false economy in my mind. How much more would it cost to have a soft feel plastic panel than a hard scratchy one? (rant over) 😊
I also feel it is a little light on power. I get it’s a family car but another 100 BHP would make me a potential customer.
Don't know the cost difference when it comes to materials but Renault is not a premium brand and I guess interior materials and a smaller motor is two ways to keep the price down.
@@ItsOnlyElectric No, I get that but I don't accept that not being a premium brand automatically means that a manufacturer has to shout out from the rooftops 'We cut corners to save money'! Just put a thin layer of faux Alcantara on it. Even my Polestar 2 has scratchy hard plastic on the lower door panels. Not acceptable in my opinion.
@PauloG100 totally get your point. It's my biggest complaint about my ID3 from 2022
I think in the highest trim level the Scenic really is on par or very close to the premium brands when it comes to the amount of plastic used. The BMW i5 for example has exactly the same amount of plastic as the Scenic although its starting price is at 70000€ with a smaller battery. Then the long range version of the Scenic and at the same level of equipment it's way more expensive. Mercedes probably has a bit less plastic but not much and build quality of the Mercedes EVs is really not great, I would say worse than in the Renaults. And at least the door pockets of the Scenic have felt on the inside which not a lot of cars have, no matter what car segment. So I in general agree that it is not understandable why the manufacturers can't cover more or less all the parts on the interior with something different than hard plastic as I think it would really make a difference in costs, but criticizing Renault is still wrong as they are not a premium brand but play in the field of them when it comes to the interior and definitely play above most of the direct rivals
Not having one pedal drive is a shame. I don't think I could go back to driving without it.
Yes it's s hard to go back.
Apparently OPD will be coming in an OTA update
That would be great
Its been already more than 6 months since this car is sold and still no one has done range test 🤦♂️
I have. Coming next week. 😉
That's because deliveries haven't started yet..
I saw a danish test where 260 km with 115 km/h resulted in 24 kwh/100 km. A bit dissapointing... A range of 330 km i good drivning conditons
I think that's for the small pack. 24kWh/100km will give you 360km with the big pack. So not that bad in that speed . Stay tuned, my range test will be released soon.
Renault verkar ha fattat. 💪
Men en hundring för dyr. 🙃
Ja, priset för stora batteriet är en utmaning
I was going to buy this. driven Renault over 15 years.
The price was a letdown, can get larger for the same cash
Charging speed is just to slow 40min 10-80%
And final the consumption on highway is way to high (on par with Chinese cars)
The only thing Scenic was better at is it looks inside
In the end i got a much better deal from a larger ev brand
I did a range test with it and it's really efficient on my test cycle with average speed of 93km/h. Video on the way.
I truly like this car. But it is a bit slow for an EV.
But it really feels inspiring to drive. Doesn't feel to weak.
Well, it's a family SUV. I tried one and the acceleration felt more than sufficient for a normal use (much better than my 180HP Peugeot 5008). And I perfectly agree with the opinion given in the video: helped by the inertia-free engine, it feels very reactive. A pleasure to drive. Of course, it's less powerful than the Tesla Y, but frankly I don't think I'd miss it.
@donquilmi fully sufficient power.
I think we are a bit biased. We are so used of EV putting out so much power (because it’s easy from an electric motor), that we think (and me as well 😅) 220hp is not enough 😬
I think we are thinking a bit wrong now bc some manufacturers pit soo much power in cars of this segment, which I think is kind of ridiculous and not necessary. Cars if this segment never had more power. My father has had the last two Scenics and the older one had 130 hp and the newer one which he still drives has 160 hp which actually is the most powerful car he ever had. My Renault Laguna has 150 hp and that's enough. In a family car you don't need more. With 7.9 seconds from 0-100 km/h the scenic e-tech is already clearly faster than any Scenic before
too much ads to watch this video

@@ItsOnlyElectric maybe it's not quite a full-time job so it's normal that it's not enough... 😛

It Won't sell. EV market is in decline. Hope they make a ICE version, it would be a great car to buy.
No it's not in decline. That's old news. Now o the way up again. Certain brands will lose market share but with the new directives in France and the raised taxes on Chinese brands will probably help Renault sales in Europe.
EV market is growing.
Too much money for what you get
Too many stalks.
Renault will have succes and buyers will have big lost of value and crappy driving !! you better buy bycicle or scooter for longer journeys
Why, you think the quality is that bad?
@@ItsOnlyElectric which one from french car are not?? for 7-10 years this EVs would worth less then ordinary 10+ year old Škoda Fabia and as new peoples will pay 3x more this EV then cheapest Fabia
Time will tell.
@@ItsOnlyElectric time tell with every EV generally!!you cant find 10+ year old EVs on road or if there is some his value are basically zero
@@Mr11ESSE111Well, considering that only a very few models are 10 years old, (2011 Nissan Leaf is probably the older popular model I can think of, and the first models weren't a large success) no wonder you can't find any on the road. Generally, EV cars age better than combustion engines.
