250 felt "normal", 500 was actually surprisingly comfortable, 750 was very fragmented, and 1000 was - well, too fast. :) I recently stumbled upon a technique where the first few letters of each word were in a bold font, and the remaining letters were in a normal font weight. I can't remember where exactly I saw it now, but I was astounded at the impact it had on the speed at which I read through the text - my mind effectively filled in the blanks of the remainder of the word without me having to actually read through the entire thing. I wonder what the combination of these two strategies might yield. Interesting, thanks!

I haven't heard of that technique before, but it sounds similar to that trick where all the vowels are removed from words and your brain fills in the blanks without any hesitation. The power of the human brain is astonishing!

@@MemorizeAcademy After spending some time googling to figure out exactly what I had seen, it is called "bionic reading". And yes, quite similar in nature to the technique you describe. Anyway, thought you might find it interesting, so I figured I'd follow up. Cheers

250: tiny bit too fast, yet also slow?
500: Went back several times. Panicked because it went so fast.
    750: Almost a headache
1,000: 💥🤯 all I caught was there was ruthless rich dude, and a Russian Czar the 3 something that was rich and liked to collect eggs.

    I could only read till 250 .
500 was very fast for me.
Maybe because English isn't my native language.

    - 250 was too slow for me.
    - 500 was fast enough that I did not have 100% comprehension.
    - 750 was fast enough that I couldn't keep up and I was only picking up 3-5 words per sentence.
Based on this exercise, I would estimate my normal daily reading speed to be 300-350. If I'm reading something more challenging (like Kant) then I'm probably reading 200-250. I read around 500 to pick up the gist of something. But at 750, I would barely get anything out of it. I would only be able to tell you the general topic, the focus, and *maybe* a couple of facts.

Nice one! That's a solid foundation reading speed. No matter where you start from, you can improve your speed and comprehension with practice.

250 was super easy, 500 was easy, 700 took some concentration and 1000 was a bit challenging.

    250 was slow for me
    500 was okay for me
750 was a bit fast but I pushed through
1000 I barely picked up few words
I guess mine might be around 500-600 wpm

    250 was easy
    500 was cool too but
At 750 wpm it began to be hard and
1000 wpm were impossible but that's maybe because English is not my native language

I am able to catch up in the 500 but if being asked about the details of the text, I may be not able to answer, 700 became too fast that I only remember until the part about Bill Gates. I can't catch up on anything to 1000, maybe I need to practice reading a little more.

    Thank you! Very good video.
The hand was a distraction at higher speeds for me and slowed me down/prevented comprehension.
It was hiding context information from the lines beneath.
At 1000wpm the "recommended" method is "chunking". The finger or pointer moves to the middle of a chunk of text to allow the eyes to take a section in - the pointer or finger might hop two or three times on each line of text. This way it allows the eyes to linger on denser information and move faster on lighter information (from my experience of this video).
Please make a video using the chunking - blocks of text method.
It would be good to see if everyone can read at 1000wpm.
Once again, a really informative video. I was able to observe what my eyes were trying to do.

Was getting a little comfortable in around 250-500 wpm but was getting a a little more confusing progressively until I could barely read about 10 words at 1000 wpm.

I could keep up easily till challenge 2: 500 WPM. But in 750 WPM, I missed a few lines and missed some content just like memorize academy told. Is this how you lose comprehension, memorize academy?

    • @MemorizeAcademy
      @MemorizeAcademy  Před rokem

At some point there will be a tradeoff between speed and comprehension, so you need to know how to improve both.
