No, it would've been worse. We can only get dragged down. The team would get turned into a political project to push "brotherhood and unity", so they'd force token players, can't have 95% of players be Croats, no we gotta insert some from other parts so they don't feel left out. Everything in Yugoslavia turned to crap. Football only improved in Croatia, while it didn't improve elsewhere, except maybe Slovenia. So all in all, they'd drag us down.

No because nobody would play with as much heart as the players usually play for their nation and there would probably be unfair advantages given to players who are worse but are from a nationality that has not as many good players. Also, many of the players that are known as very good today might not get as many chances to play (on club level as well) because there would be a bigger player pool in the whole of Yugoslavia, so many players might get overlooked because of that. That realistically means that all the players you mentioned might actually not have been drafted. That also depends on the quality of footballing management and infrastructure quality

Good point. I guess It all comes down to investment in the sport itself and maybe focus on developing more than attracting talent. You could argue the Turkish league is more suited to bring bigger names to their league than any Balkan country today
