  • There are countless shelters on the market. Tents, tarps, and tipis. Materials such as silnylon, silpoly, and Dyneema. Ultralight options rated for 3-season use, and heavy-duty options rated for 4-season use. Single-wall and double-wall. Freestanding and non-freestanding. And the options don't end there!
So how do you select the best shelter for your needs? And is there one shelter that can do it all for you?
In this podcast, Steve & Mark discuss the various types of shelters available, the many shelters they have used, and what to consider when selecting a shelter for backpack hunting.

I wish I could find one shelter to rule them all. Currently have a 4 season Kuiu. Msr carbon reflex, and my number 1 go to is the big angus flycreek 2. Have just brought a Durston Xmid pro to give a jam. Prob bring that to Idaho and give it a good work out.

The Durston Xmid Pro should be a solid option. Mark tested a pre-production version that showed a lot of promise.

I used a xmid 1 solid last November and it was awesome. I do recommend getting one of their z-flick sticks if you want to keep your tent set up while you hunt, I like to take one trekking pole hunting.
