  • As many subscribers recommended to have Murtabak,
I googled and visited one of the restaurants that looked nice.
Not only the taste was great,
but also the place was up on the hill with a wonderful view.
Rii Han san, thank you for your kindness!!

    ◆self-introduction
We were just an ordinary Japanese married couple, both working, until my wife suddenly chose to move overseas.
After thinking deeply, I reached a conclusion to leave the company I worked for 12 years, and started my new life as a stay-at-home dad in 2021.
At first, I had rough time with stress and felt conflicted, but now I enjoy my life in Malaysia, taking the household chores over from my wife.
As I changed my lifestyle I changed my hairstyle to Samurai(Man Bun).
I named this channel "Samurai -----" as some people call me "samurai!" since I came to Malaysia.
In this channel, I will be introducing:
    1. My daily life and things I noticed as stay-home-dad
    2. My Malaysian life
    3. Changes we experience upon moving overseas
    Hope you enjoy!

You ordered the food and drink like a local, good job!! That Murtabak looks insanely huge and they called that single?haha. That is more 2x or 3x of normal Murtabak , normally in Mamak restaurant it is just a size of a roti canai but thicker.

He definitely said cucumber. That sauce should be cucumber in chilli sauce with vinegar.
My favourite 'sauce' for murtabak is pickled onions. But a lot of people prefer cucumber to onions. Especially kids. I prefer onions because I hate cucumber.
The sour/tart in vinegar or from pickles will provide freshness in dishes like murtabak because it's heavy, meaty, oily, and cheese-y in this case. Or you could order sour drinks like teh o limau (lime tea) or get teh tarik halia (ginger teh tarik). If you're in a mamak or at a nasi kandar restaurant, you can get teh masala (chai masala) or Rassm (I don't know how to spell it, Rass-sum?).

Murtabak with cheese is just another local delicacy that has fallen victim to the crazy trend of cooks coating every feasible local dish with cheese. Murtabak itself, sans the cheese, is already a very good and tasty dish. You should try Johor style murtabak or what some might call murtabak Singapore. Rich with chopped meat and onions glued together with eggs sandwiched between thin layers of roti.

Samurai-sama. I'm impressed. 😁 From my understanding and experience, Nihonjin don't bring back food from restaurant home (please correct me if I'm wrong); which is contrast to Malaysian culture of Tapau. 😉You've become accustomed to Malaysia and more malaysianised by the day; just remember, when you return back to Nihon/Nippon one day, I think you have to leave Malaysian habits behind or otherwise you may experience reverse-culture shock later. 😬

Can I suggest you, instead of "Teh Tarik kurang manis" (uses sweetened/filled condensed milk), order "Teh C kurang manis" instead (this drink uses evaporated milk which is not sweet at all). Samurai Dad, i hope you're reading this, there is a restaurant that serves western foods, it called Fiske Steakhouse, it open from 5pm to 12am it only operating in dinner hours. It located near Aeon AU2 Setiawangsa which you have discovered months ago. But you must be quick, the restaurant is quite popular and parking spaces limited and queue is quite long if you're late, the most ideal time to visit that steakhouse is around 7pm which not much customers that time, but after 9pm it very packed. There is a special menu, i don't remember what it name but the description is a meal mixed with 3 different meats. Blackpaper grilled lamb, Grilled chicken, and steak, with coleslaw, baked beans and mashed potatoes as side dishes, best drink is chocolate blended (my favorite). Hope you read this info if you want to explore more in Setiawangsa and Wangsa Maju area
