How to Animate a LEGO Figure Walking

- In this Tutorial Video we look at three methods for animating a brick figure walking. Method 1 is the most standard manner in brick animation. It looks the best when coupled with a 15 fps frame rate. Method 2 is a more smoother cycle however it requires twice as much time and petience. The end result is defenitly worth it. Method 3 is a speed walk which look comical and thus can be used in comical situations.

TOP tutorial!
You have to conform the frame rate in your editing software. Or make sure the sequence is matcing 16 fps.
I've come back to this tutorial so many times for a refresher!
The only problem with me is i sometimes forget which leg i had just moved😂.
Now is it right leg or left leg?
Saaame bro 😂
I deal with the same thing 😂
This might be 12 years old but one of the better explanations I've managed to find for Lego Figure Walking. Cheers for that mate. Have an awesome day! From HWFAH (Hot Wheels, Lego, Cards & collectables)
Done it!!! Dramatic music plays

Yo how was life 10 years ago😲🤔
Walk - 10FPS | Run - 15FPS
that helped thankx
some helpful tips in there, thankyou.
Do you have any special way of making them actually run? or is there just the quick walk?
helpful! even though i already knew how to do it...
And you are the best
PLEASE TEACH US HOW TO MAKE THEM WALK DOWN STEPS.
you need to like almost bend their leg back as far as possible and have the other foot standing (if you use full block steps use sticky tac to hold him in place the put both feet flat next frame) but for best results use 1 stud stairs
or stairs like this work brickset.com/parts/4277751/staircase-7x4x6
i don't think you can
No
I WILL REIGN i
I WILL REIGN i wonder why they have holes in the bottom of their foot probably from all the lego
Thank u
yess finally
good
nice
THANK YOU SO MUCH! You sounded a little tired though...
Good advise. Before I watched this, I used what you call "method 1". By the way, the "speed walk" Blob Studios on his website has a tutorial for it but he calls it running. So it was used before!
I have always used method one
wow, its been almost 7 years!
Easy solution. Just stick them down using masking tape. Ether by rolling it undernieth or taping it across the corners. Good luck
There will always be some dick-suckers to dislike a video. This guy to all this time to learn/educate other people with knowledge. Great job btw.
I was watching while I was animating.
THANKS! would this apply to 24 fps? would you do more moves in 24 fps to make is smooth? what's the benefit of 24 fps?
Hey dude. Are you going to do a video on how to move a LEGO minifigures head move like you used in PIRATES. That would be really cool. Mine look jumpy Yours are so smppth when they move.
I do the “standard” one except I don’t do the balancing pary
Same it looks good enough
cool
I've seen lego animations where they animate the figures on flat smooth surfaces, how the hell do they get them to stand still without falling over?
JintySteam they use clay or sticky tac
do you use still pictures or a quick recordings on a camcorder to make the animation?
@cannedgravy I await that patiently
thx
Liz W
Is there any alternative to backgrounds, I have the figures I need but the background I need is too expensive
how many pictures does it take to fit into one second? if so should you tape down or glue the baseplate so it doesnt move?
Gorge lucus has a secret LEGO channel
Thx
Hey could u just specify how many pics do we have to take of each move?
Is this an episode of brick film school?
How does it move can you caption it using a video recorder and do you move it by hands?
Haha sothparkian lol you are awesome
can they only walk on lego studs because in ur movie there isnt any studs so how do you make them walk without the studs?
Does sound fx matter? I use an app that has Minecraft sound fx and its a stop motion animator but I have another one but does Lego films need sound fx?
Wow😄
can you please tell me your editing software, i am looking for one
for stop motion do you do half a second video or a picture?
Which software do you use? Because I use Live Movie Maker and it dose'n't work very good): But thanks, this will work very great(:
@cannedgravy hey do you do doll animation cause thats what i want to do with like american girl dolls
I use SAM Animation (my videos on my channel were made in iMovie, NOT SAM). It is a cheap software, that also has a free version.
i used method 3 sorta
We have the same baseplate :)
How do you get your character to stay upright? Mine leans forward when walking... Please help!
