- Tulip bulb planting XXL style with Dutch grower VOF Dogterom Oude-Tonge. Planting the bulbs is done using a brand new outfit. A specially modified John Deere 8370RT on row crop tracks is used. On the front sits an AVR Ge-Force hook tine cultivator. The tractor has been fitted with a front loader and roof-top hopper that holds 5-6 boxes of bulbs.
The Koops planter is an all-new 2.25m wide model which uses double netting. The bulbs are squashed between the 2 nets and, come harvest, lifted out of the ground without soil. Both the tractor and planter are steered using Trimble RTK-GPS.
The stubble field is freshly ploughed using a New Holland T7030 with Kverneland LO 100 Variomat plough. A special 'loading station' is used to fill the tractors' hopper. Boxes are emptied using a Claas Scorpion 7035 Varipower telehandler.

Great machine, really nice video!
Thank you!
Mooie video, prachtige machine!
Bedankt Jan. Zeker een pracht span.
Leuke video
Was für eine perfekte Maschine!
1. Warum doppelt Netz?

Very neat, I feel stupid though can someone explain the plastic?? if the bulbs are squashed between the 2, how do they grow through the top sheet? and why would you want a top sheet at harvest time??
These are not plastic sheets but fabric netting. This also explains how the bulb can grow through it and grow like a normal plant. Come harvest the 2 netts are lifted out of the ground. The top and bottom one are separated by the harvester and the bulbs collected. This means a lot less soil has to be picked up and cleaned out.
Cool thanks for the explanation. One thing though, im confused do they resuse the bulbs then to replant again the following season in a different field? Their planting bulbs to begin with, grow the flower, cut the flower. Then go back and retrieve the bulb for seeding again or sale? Are the bulbs worth more after a growing season or something? I know nothing about flower farming. Thanks!
I am not an expert on bulb growing either! A part of the bulbs are re-used for planting the following season. This can go on for a long period maybe 10-15 years if you like. As soon as the tulip is flowering the head is cut off so all the plants energy goes into the bulb. The majority of the bulbs will be exported to countries all over the world. Some will be planted in flower pots and sold (maybe around Christmas) and a lot will go into greenhouses, the flower is cut and the flowers sold around the globe.
very interesting and to me educational video. Are these Koops planters commercially available? Or are they just a one off construction?
This is a Dutch manufacturer who builds these machines for bulb growers: www.koops-middenmeer.nl/
Are you the new tractorspotter ? Do you know what happened to him ?
Haha no I am not the new Tractorspotter. He is very busy but new videos will come.
Remarkable lack of any sort of birds following either the plough or the planter, there is usually some about to grab any worms or grubs or don't you get any in this part of Holland. I still think those 'wheel arch' indentations look funny on the 'tracked' JD's I'm surprised they don't just put a flat panel over them. Interesting video well filmed.
Christopher, sometimes there are lots of seagulls, sometimes none at all. My drone also scares them away! We usually get them but you never know where and when. Thank you for the compliment.
Yes the dear old seagulls usually aren't far away from at least the plough, I think that's what made it seem almost unreal. As I don't have one I never thought about a drone scaring them, I would have thought they would think it is just another bird.
Sometimes they don't mind, sometimes they almost crash into it and sometimes it scares them off! Funny birds.
Yes I quite see your point - at least with a drone it doesn't 'drop' on you what a flock of birds usually do.
never saw a machine like that :o
