    Hey Bikers Bits Crew 👋😄
    What a great episode! Hahaha you blokes are so Aussie ocker too and sound like the great bunch of blokes that taught me how to ride! 😂👍🏁 Thanks for the shout out. I never meant to make the vids for public consumption…they’re were just my memoirs that I was making around my camp fire each night out in the most epic mid-life crisis adventure ever! 😂😄 It was 450 days & I covered 49,500kms of our incredible country. Suffice to say I’m a dirt tragic now and only wish I had my midlife crisis when I was 30! 🤞😂 It’s always an adventure…carry on! 😜👍🏍💨⛺️

    Must haves?
    Mechanically…great suspension & tuned to your riding style. For me, it’s the difference between an unsafe and fatiguing ride as opposed to an awesome days ride, lost on a gnarly track and still having energy to explore your wild camp on foot.
    Bike accessories…USB charging port, windscreen, sheep skin between the legs, barkbusters, forward foot pegs, fuel bladder (nothing worse than fuel anxiety), music in the helmet for the boring blacktop! 🎤😂🎧
    Camping gear…lightweight 2P tent (rain sucks 🙄), chair, jet boil, red wine (no fridge necessary)! 😂👍🍷
    Critical camp gear…top of the range air mattress, biggest air pillow, super warm sleeping bag. For me, a great nights sleep is my No.1 safety factor. If you don’t get a great nights sleep, riding fatigued the next day is hard work & super dangerous when you’re not on your game.
    Lastly, I never jump on my bike without turning on my Garmin Explorer Plus with its satellite connection, text capabilities, tracking function & emergency SOS button. An EPIRB/PLB is cheap insurance when you’re an adventurous dirt life tragic! 🤞😂🍀

    Alistair, I have to differ on one thing you mention regarding the ability to drive on our roads is a right not a privilege. I am a fully licensed MC Heavy vehicle driver in Australia holding a Federal licence valid in all states of Australia and is essential for me to have to make a living. There are conditions attached to being able to hold this licence subject to passing annual medical examinations and this is understandable as if a medical condition can possibly occur while driving it could cause loos of control of the vehicle and cause an accident to not only myself but other road users and as such I fully understand this is a requirement I am happy to comply with. Several years ago I had a episode where I suffered a "microsleep" resulting in the truck wandering across to the left shoulder of the road at 100kph crossing the rumble strips on the lane edge and this noise got my attention as I was alerted to the fact that my eyes were closed and I was about to run off the road. Thankfully I regained control of the truck and bought in under control and returned to the road safely but pulled in at the next safe spot and called my boss to let him know what I had done as it scared the hell out of me. I had only been driving for a total of 5 hours that day and had a full 12 hour rest break prior so fatigue was not a cause. My boss it turns out has sleep apneoa himself, and he immediately told me this could be the issue and to be tested and he was right as soon as possible. I had to undertake testing and monitoring to confirm this and when it came back positive, the doctor had to report this to Vicroads who suspended my licence until such time as I could provide evidence from my specialist that my sleep apnea was under control provided I use a CPAP machine which is monitored online via an app which my specialist can access and I am required to complete a 6 monthly examination by my specialist and he then reports to Vicroads that I can keep my licence for the rest of my life. I have no issue doing this as the thought of me causing an accident due to this medical issue does not bear thinking about. For the reason listed, you can see why I consider my licence a privilege not a right as unfortunately some folk due to issues beyond their control may not be safe to drive on our roads.

    I live in South Australia, and in 2007, I had a stent put in. 2 years after the stent was put in my heart specialist told me to stop coming to see him because there is nothing wrong with me now. But our government wants me every year to see my Dr to fill a form out saying I'm good to drive. Even my Dr says it's stupid. Crazy shit and a little annoying.
    Cheers guys. Great podcast as always.

I won’t even mention the compulsory ABS on bikes now as that’s sure to raise some serious debate! 🙄😂 God only knows how we survived without ABS for the past 40+ years! 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️😂 Thank goodness I can still pull a fuse out! 😂👍🏍💨

    diesel rebate long gone, lpg fuel rebate long gone .fuel prices are based on the oil barrel price, we are so fucked over here with fuel pricing as the state and federal governments take i think over 50% of every dollar in tax and exices and they're not giving up that revenue any time soon.
    Also it is a known thing if a medical doctor feels that you are NOT capable of driving safely they can notify the relevant state authorities and you can have your licence taken away. I know people this has happened to.
    Seriously there should be rioting in the streets with what the governments are able to do without notifying you,

    Just my view but there should be a cyclist hunting season, the government spent how many millions on bike paths and the majority of cyclists never use them, beach road in Melbourne cyclists take up one whole lane and sometimes I've seen them wonder into the 2nd lane, 5 metres to the side of the road is a damn bike path!! They should be fined if they ride on the road when there is a bike path available...

    • @CRFLAus
      @CRFLAus Před 7 měsíci

      As a cyclist I agree. There is a type of cyclist, lets say yes the beach road boys who are total knobs. They don't represent cyclists as a whole, typical of a few to be dicks and everyone hates cyclists in general. Problem with your bike path idea for these blokes is do you want them on a shared bike path doing 60kph among pedestrians? Not ideal. I don't even ride on the road, you'd be mad to.
