  • In this video I restore and old Yamaha Fs1e Motorcycle Fuel tank from 1979. It has dents, rust and holes and is in need of a full restoration. I sealed the inside of the tank in this video • Sealing A Rusty Motorc...
    The Fs1e changed to an Autolube system and this moped was restricted to 30 mph here in the UK from August 1977 and this was renamed the FS!M. Very collectable and their value has rocketed over the last few years.

    I had the SS50 and my friend had the Fizzy, summer of '76. Together we got both to do 45mph on the flat, his acceleration was better but I just about got him on the top end. Two young commis chefs who had the afternoon off in a long hot summer forming life long friendships. Thank you for taking me back to amazing times.

      So you had the other SS50 then? Your dad musta given you the 'you aint having a stinking 2 stroke ' lecture too! Everyone else in the uk had an fs1e or an AP50!

      theravedaddy They were fairly equal in Blackburn and Preston where I grew up. I had a girlfriend who lived in the Trough of Bowland at the time and they get a lot of snow up there. I can honestly say I never once had to use my pedals, and I never thought it was a cool look peddling down the street hoping your 2 stroke moped would start was a cool look. The Honda garage was the biggest motorbike shop in Preston and easily in walking distance of my mum's. I went all over on that thing, including down to Ledbury to see my Grandma, it took all day and I was half crippled by the time I got there. It only cost about £3 in petrol though which was about 15% of my wages each way. 1976 was a great year to be 16 and life was a great adventure in a long hot summer. Now you’ve got me reminiscing too much!

      @@markharris5771 i bought my SS50 after stacking dog food in tescos after school. After spending a shift upstairs relabeling food with higher prices while listening to Abbas dancing queen id fire over to the george n dragon n drink 9 pints of guiness and get 3p change from £3. Then id learn how to fall off n bend things back straight again.

  • @supernovadw
    @supernovadw Před 5 lety

    Not meaning to talk you down or anything but two points to note:
    1) You should guide coat the primer before you flat it so you can see any potential high or low spots and see easily where you've been and where still needs sanding
    2) You shouldn't sand the basecoat before lacquer! Especially with metallic paint as you'll cut the metallic pigment out.

    • @RetroHax
      @RetroHax  Před 5 lety +1

      I actually had a layer of lacquer on top of the basecoat for the decal to be applied to but forgot to state it in the video and that is what I was sanding.

    • @supernovadw
      @supernovadw Před 5 lety

      Oh OK, otherwise you'd knock all the metallic away when sanding the basecoat.
      I'd highly recommend you try guide coating the primer as well (A dedicated dry powder guide coat) Or even a aerosol can of black paint over the primer makes it so much easier.

      knew a kid who got a brand spanking new Fs1e for his 16th birthday from his rich, divorced mother. The day of his birthday, we were standing outside his house at the bus stop in Churwell, Leeds, gob smacked at his expensive present. He saw all us other 14-15 year old kids waiting for the bus to go to school on, parked her right in front of us, revved the tits off it and tried to pull a wheelie to impress us all. All eyes were rolling and he very nearly came a cropper as we all laughed our arses off at the spoilt cunt. He was well known in the area for being a bit 'special'!
      I was more interested in Honda 400 4's and LC Yammies at the time so skipped the pedalled 50's and bought myself a 2nd hand, 125, 2 stroke yammy when I was old enough and got the cash together.
