I hate when people keep debating who murdered who on this track. These two are two of the greats. Jay brought vivid storytelling while em brought his lyrical and technical prowess on this track. Both showed their own style and murdered it.

I'm such a big EM fan but I'm still one of the few that doesn't believe he slayed Jay on this track.
Jay's verse is so strong and as you pointed out he's painting such a vivid picture of how the hood really is. It's hard to say who took this one if you're really trying to put them head to head..
Yeah, even though I think Em's verses are better I don't understand the "Em murdered Jay" comments at all.
I believe them to go toe to toe and Jay's verse gets better every time I listen to it.

I didn't read the comments so somebody might have said this but this is actually 1 of 3 of Eminem and Royce's songs that we're going to go on Royce's album at the time. But the studio said that Royce could only take one of the three songs an this song didn't make the album. At the same time Jay-Z was doing The blueprint album and wanted Eminem to collab with him. But it was time-sensitive and Eminem didn't have anything that he could send him so he asked Royce if he could send him the song without Royce's part on it and then Jay filled in his verse.
