This seems eeringly similar to a Korean movie about an abandoned asylum.. the main guy also kept repeating that he only needed like 10 more viewers (he needed viewer numbers rather than followers, which makes more sense).
But tbh.. the movie scared me. Not amazingly, but I cannot handle jumpscares and there's many in they Korean one. Can't remember the name, but it's pretty famous I think.

The glitchy ghost and some of the framing on the “scary” scenes you showed (specifically the first person stuff) gave me strong Marble Hornets vibes, which I appreciate, as MH is where my love for the found footage genre comes from.

I had a similar issue while living in a college dorm. I remember knowing I stayed up too late if the landscaping started 🤣

On the topic of "how far would you go for fame," the movie Spree absolutely tackles this! Spree is told through social media and vlog footage and is ridiculously entertaining, while simultaneously diving into influencer culture in an over-the-top and campy way. I loved it!
when i heard people reference the "found film" thing, i thought it meant that the movie was composed of fair use/public film. like a lot of public tiktoks or security cam footage put together in a feature-length thing and i was confused. why would anyone watch that? but i get it now

@@mothmadi_ it's not just about it being set in a hotel. The security camera footage of Megan acting strangely in the elevator does seem like a pretty clear callback to real footage of Elisa (both hotels are also in LA, though that's not necessarily significant). The elevator game did technically originate before Elisa's death, but I think it's pretty hard to separate the two at this point, at least in the US. There's no way they made this movie without at least being aware of the association.

I watched shane and logan during this time but when I heard the premise of this movie It felt like I went back to 2017 when shane was doing the haunted docuseries and it made me feel nostalgic im definitely checking this movie out

My favorite found footage horror movies will always be the Hell House LLC trilogy. I just love them so much, lol. The 2 Houses That October Built movies were good, too.

They tried to weave them all together but I don't personally think it worked. Just made it more confusing.
I was definitely interested enough to finish the film and I'm weirdly fascinated by it despite not feeling like it was a considerably... good film?
I also completely agree they could have utilized the elevator game so so so much better. I definitely thought "Oh, theyre now in the other world where creepy stuff is going to go down and they'll have to reverse it!" Then it just never fleshed out.

The whole HBO max stuff feels super scummy, like if its an original movie made just for the platform then that's no problem but the fact that they're releasing movies like Dune with out making the directors aware of the choices made is only gonna make those directors partner with other more trustworthy studios, in summary, They're making the wrong choices if they want more money.

You should check out the movie "Unsubscribe" that came out this year. It's very short and was able to be the number 1 movie in the US for like a day because some loopholes the creator was able to use to their advantage. Zack Kornfeld from the Try Guys is in it and the budget was like $0-1 or something.
I enjoyed Hell House LLC (Shudder) way more than I expected.

If you like this sort of movie, and want a really good one, I'd recommend Grave Encounters. Very meta, honestly very funny so you dont realise how slow burn it is at the start, and as soon as it gets weird it goes HARD. It's really well made, and I'd watch it again even though I dont like horror movies

This movie sounds very similar to a Korean found footage movie I watched recently called Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, except Gonjiam was actually pretty scary.

This makes me think of the movie ‘megan is missing’ that got popular on tiktok over quarantine. I watched it with friends who aren’t frequent horror watchers and they felt super traumatized, as the movie uses the found footage format of a girl that has been kidnapped. It pushes the whole idea of be careful who you trust online, was super low budget from 2011, and relies on shock value to create “horror elements”. All of this combines in a way that creates a movie that has super slow, boring, exposition, and then all of a sudden you have super graphic r*pe, torture, and decaying corpse scenes.
As someone who watches a lot of horror movies the waterlogged corpse of megan was actually decently done with practical effects, and was the most interesting part of the entire movie in the last 10 mins lol. All in all, never watch the movie, as it relies on r*pe for shock factor and isn’t treated seriously at all, and it just has the bullshit “the internet is dangerous” message, which we all know, but cranked up by 1000.
If you ever want to check out a SUPER low budget horror film, buy a dvd of bone sickness on ebay. Made in like 2004 by this Rhode Island makeup artist.

Never heard of it. Host was the bigger lockdown movie from what I'd read and heard in the media and the horror community. So much so it went from streaming to a theatrical release and ltd edition physical release
