- TaylorMade’s 2020 golf ball line-up is incredibly strong but you might be confused as to which one will be the right fit for your game.
To help clear things up David Cunninghame (@D_Cunninghame) puts the TP5, TP5x, Tour Response and Soft Response through an extensive test.
The TP5 models are TaylorMade’s out-and-out tour golf balls, trusted by the likes of Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm.
The Tour Response is a new addition for 2020 and features many of the same technologies as its TP5 counterparts, but comes in at a more affordable price.
The Soft Response is the other newcomer this year and it has been tailored towards moderate swing speed players seeking a soft feel and added distance.

Great video my club fitted me into the tp5 but on the course i saw distance drop by quiet a lot. Bought a box of soft response and saw a big pick up in distancd snd they felt much better for me. I only swing driver around 95mph so glad i saw this video to back up my findings on the course
not sure you will see this, but how much distance difference was it between the 2 golf balls?

Good video. When comparing the softer ball made for 85 mph it would be nice to see those hit at 85 mph. This video doesn’t really show good results for the tour response and tour soft being hit at over 100 mph. Thanks
Skytrac does not measure clubhead speed it calculates it using ball speed and an assumed strike factor. The lack of an actual clubhead speed makes your testing somewhat ambiguous.
Really enjoyed the video, did you find the TP5 x to be straighter than TP5 off the driver? I swing around 100mph is that fast enough for the TP5x in your opinion?

I swing around 90 and love the tp5x

With an average of 95mph swing speed currently using tp5x( club pro recommend and fitted) . After this video i felt i was an idiot to believed what they said, i understand all club pro will recommend top range balls because of price, now i will give tour response a try and trying to squeeze some more distance out of it. thank you for this video.
No matter your swing speed or level of ability, either the TP5 or TP5x will be the best performing golf balls for you. They offer the best all-round performance of any TaylorMade golf ball and really come into their own around the greens. However, that's not to say you won't see great performance from Tour Response or Soft Response. It's about finding the right golf ball for your game and also weighing up the considerations of what you want most from your ball, (distance, trajectory, spin, greenside control, feel) and of course the price. @@bunkered Thank you, i am struggling with more distance, should i used harder ball and softer core to gain more distance( don't care about spin)? i have been using Titleist NXT tour in the pass(5 years).
If you're looking for distance above all else then there are a good few options on the market for you. TaylorMade's Soft Response might be good for you or the Titleist Velocity, Callaway ERC Soft or Vice Drive to name only a few. Probably best to try out a few for yourself and see what is working best for you. DC

That was a helpful review but the numbers did not justify the difference in price point. When you consider accuracy is more important than distance for a club golfer, why would you pay up to £30 more for a TP5 over a soft response. Also, what real additional control is there around the green with an affordable wedge? I do think there is more snobbery than science in golf ball selection amongst the non tour pros. I am about to do the same test with the same set of balls in the hope of seeing if any displace the Kirkland V2.0 as my ball,of choice. But as I said, an excellent review,- thanks.
i remember a test where they got a robot arm to swing the club exactly the same everytime and hit the same spot on the face of the club... the major difference in tour balls was the dispersion... I remember the pro v1 having very little dispersion front to back where as the cheaper balls had quite a few yards dispersion. So basically if you hit 2 exact same shots.. 1 ball may go 10 feet further than then the other ball but with a tour ball, it may only have a difference of 3 feet... when accuracy counts... i guess...

I'm guessing you play the tp5 why not get all the results with the same driver speed then u can decide if the ball speed is lower spin rate is lower with 3mp higher clubhead speed with the driver will give different results in the so called cheaper balls
Not being a robot means that getting the exact same swing speed all of the time isn't the easiest, especially towards the end of the test like I pointed out. Out on the course I was definitely seeing some added distance off the tee with the TP5 models, with Tour Response very closely matching them. Soft Response isn't really tailored towards someone with my kind of clubhead speed so wasn't all that surprised to see it going a little shorter. It was, however, a very high launching ball and reckon it'd be a goof fit for the moderate to slow swing speed players its primarily destined for. DC
