    Testing the balls now and found the "click" of the TP5X to be the same as ProV1X (the ball that I'm switching from). TP5 is that much softer feeling and sounding. The auditory feedback will take adjusting, but for better players, softer is usually preferred. Thanks for the great post, Rick. Loved seeing the inside of the ball, as well.

    A very informative review obviously this is a subjective analysis as all reviews are. Personally I like your reviews as they get straight to the point at hand, lots of honest information from an experienced independent golf professional. The combination of data analysis and personal preference and in this case visual perception through on course analysis adds that extra element. Good job Rick!

    I got a sleeve of the new TP5 and ProV1 and agree with you
    on a lot of things. I also love the sound of a “non-clicky” sounding ball. I think
    that is why I love the feel and sound of the Pro V1. I really enjoyed the TP5.
    I love the feel and sound of the Snell ball as well, btw. I wasn’t swinging
    well when I played the ProV1, but I felt the TP5 performed better for me, off
    of the Driver. But, man oh man, on chips, pitching, and irons…the ProV1 felt
    pretty damn good. But not so much better than the TP5. Can’t wait for more of
    this series. The Ball market is just getting tighter and tighter. I think for
    those of us that pay for balls, look for the deals. It is really hard to beat
    the Srixon balls, but now they are going up in price as well.

  • @edyoung607
    @edyoung607 Před 6 lety +1

    I'm so glad you said you felt a spring like affect when putting with the TP5. I felt the same thing as I was comparing feel on the greens vs my typical ProV1. Obviously, you could get used to anything, but it was something the jumped out at me right away when doing my own testing. Now I know it wasn't just me.

  • @adamkean9253
    @adamkean9253 Před 6 lety

    I bought a dozen TP5s and played it yesterday. Conditions were dry and windy, around 70 degrees. I absolutely loved the performance off the tee and with my irons as well as its feel, but I was pretty surprised to not see my ball get much backspin. SM6 wedges, brand new. I am a digger, usually take about a 6 inch long, inch deep divot on full wedge shots. Even 30 yard pitch shots from tight lies tried to check, but didn't stop on the dime. Played the V1 the last five years and the new V1 just the week before and it was incredible. I'm going to continue to game the TP5 because I am technically satisfied.

I had a TP5x and felt similar but had a bit more feel & sound BUT MURDERED the TP5x off the T box with a 285 yard drive using a PING G400 3 W! I typically hit it 250 & G400 driver 270y. I really kinda liked the DUO feel as I play ProV & x’s mostly. Still testing but needing some more strikes to be convinced.

    I generally agree with the review. TP5 seems to fly a little higher on all clubs. My personal preference is the TP5X since it has a slightly lower ball flight, cuts through the wind nicely, and spins a little less. But depending on course conditions I'm also gaming the TP5 as well since it flies slightly higher/softer. Both are excellent.

    I was given a TP5x the other day and found it to be excellent. I deliberately played with a Pro V1x yesterday and the TP5x today to compare. I was getting more spin into greens than I usually do and certainly more than the Pro V1x. It seemed to give more distance too. I found it easier to judge putting pace and was good on chips. It is certainly the best Taylormade ball I have ever tried. I will certainly give it another go next week.

    Have you cut a Taylormade Tour Preferred ball in half? It would be very interesting to see what their previous tip ball looks like next to their newest super ball, matter of fact I'm not sure I've seen any reviews of the Tour Preferred, it would awesome to see it compared to theae, they are soft as well from what I understand. If you have tested the original "TP" please let me know.

    Just got a box of tp5x in the mail, havent played them yet but they are really hard and clicky sounding if I bounce it off my sand wedge face

      Tom Prevost It appears to be a PVC pipe cutter. You can pick one up at Home Depot or Lowes.

    Hi Rick, I've got a swing speed of around 115-120mph and I've always chosen the 'x' for reduced spin and therefore less wild tee shots. Is this flawed logic? Do you see more of a difference between soft/hard balls with a faster swing? Thanks!
