i scored the same bike for $120NZ (60 pounds ) a couple of years ago with an Ultegra triple groupset.I love it,and is great for all the hills around where i live in NZ.
You got a bargain. Where did you get the idea that it's normal to ride around on a bike without all the gears working properly? Either your drivetrains are worn out, or simply out of adjustment. Replace the worn parts and adjust your derailleurs and cables. It's not rocket surgery😉
