In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
    Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
    Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
    Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
    Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
    Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
    When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

I wish I had your hairline. Got a new appointment for Wed. Will probably go for a new unit all together, mine now is like a young Jack nickelson. I Gotta thank you and all the other guys for these videos. Changed the hairline tape for the first time and felt confident doing it, took a while, but mainly cause I was airing out and trying to be perfect. Lol I think going in with more pics and vids to show them what I want will help with the next system. I think I could probably self maintain more now for a while without going to the stylist which will save me money. Go to my old barber. Seriously thanks.

I’m brutally honest. This color and density is you. Looks great. I would just gel it a little. Love you content. Keep up the informative work. I appreciate it. Plucking is a art form. Many woman of color have great videos on this I think it’s patience But it makes the system soo much more believable. I’m teaching myself plucking and thinning the hair w thinning shears and razor comb.

Hey Jake. I saw this one guy do a tiny bit of blonde dye with a q tip to the hairline (not while he was wearing it so the dye doesn’t burn his skin) at a centimeter or two height wise to take away that wall of hair look that a lot of systems have. Thanks for the awesome video again!

Have you considered a partial front system in the past?

  • @AJ-on-youtube

I do this when I get stock units because the hairline is usually too low at the temples (or otherwise doesn't match my contour), and it doesn't look good to just cut the base in a straight line (which leaves behind odd, straight lines of clipped hairs along the edges). I also cut out any visible base material in the hairline that doesn't have any hair in it. I wear ultra thin skin units, and I after I do this, I can comb my hair straight back, or back and to the side, and nobody knows any better. Sometimes the front edge of the base material can be noticeable under certain lighting conditions if there's too much bare base material in the front (which is why I cut it back), especially if you're not using the thinnest ultra thin skin units, or if dirt builds up along the edge.

Hi Jake! I definitely have to contribute my comment. skin-based prostheses are not the best to remove hair for the reason that they do not have a knot, as is the case with lace prostheses. In this case if it will look good for a short time but what really happens is that you reduce the duration of the piece. It is preferable to order one with less frontal density and with discolored knots. If for example the prosthesis is supposed to last 4 months, in this case it may only last 3 months! Remember that prosthetics lose hair daily by nature and by pulling hair out, their life time is decreasing. The world of hair systems has changed a lot since we don't have to wait that long for a prosthesis. Our factory offers infinity of designs for each case.

Do people ever leave a few real hairs in front of their system - Depending on if they have them of course?

    • @JakeKent
      @JakeKent  Před 4 lety +2

Yes, i've seen some people have the hairsystem recessed a bit back from their natural hair.. for me, thats where i have recession, so that strategy wouldn't work for me. it would make reinstalls more complicated too, i bet!

I think you should not do it in the same way using a lace front because It will leave black knots on the unit.. I think there is a video from Curtis from mhe available on This topic as well
