I was there in the 80s too. Her duets with David Grant are 2 of my forever favourites.
That time was a joyful time to be alive, great fun, great music, Alex O'Neal, Prince, Luther Van Dross (saw all three in concert). Pubs, Clubs and Nightspots around London really where the place to be throughout this time, and all anyone ever wanted was fun, fun. fun ...
Unfortunately all I (hopefully you all out there = we) have, is memories as London, and life in the UK, is being completely destroyed before our very eyes by the Govt and all their muppets!.
Wonderful song. Takes you right back to the golden days.

this is actually my favourite Jaki Graham song. the groove, the vibe, the modulation leading into the chorus. sublime. and her vocals on this is just so silky smooth.

I saw an interview with JG from 2013. She said that they made this video in a hurry because her record manager didn't expect the single to climb from #39 - #27. It was announced on a Sunday, as usual, and they needed a video for Top of the Pops the following Thursday as it was a top 40 breaker. It was a surprise hit.

Jaki had such a unique style she really was the essence of the eighties. A very special track that sounds as fresh today as it did then more thatn 30 years ago. So called music today could NEVER compare.

The only things that make me happy is knowing I've got a lovely supportive family who love the bones off me 😊 I feel sorry for the next generation because they're going to have it hard which makes me sad. You only have to look back at the charts to realise how diverse they were back then and so much still stands the test of time in contrast to the "state of the charts " these days
In comparison you still has the choice to be unavailable without a mobile phone (unless it was a brick) and there wasn't as App for everything!

@@jonbragg8613 So true Jon, if we didn't have phones we wouldn't have as much trouble as we do today landlines were the only things we needed back then but when the "brick" phones came out everyone was getting them! My husband had one and to me it was so ugly and having to carry it around like a handbag was funny but he loved it! For people in our generation we know how good times were....I just wish it could be like that today! All we can do is hold onto the memories. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
I was madly in love when this song was out, so naturally I loved it. It didn't work out but we had great times. I married the love of my life many years later.

She was competing with female solo artists of the time like Kate Bush, Kim Wilde and of course Madonna. For a female artist to have 2 top 10 hits at such a time is impressive.
I know Jaki by "Could it be I'm falling in love" (probably her most popular song) but recently I discovered these other songs of hers, they are all so good and she's such a great singer, unfortunately she never got the recognition she deserved

I can remember first seeing this in late 1985 on BET, and instantly becoming enamored with it.
The smooth melodic groove, with a lil' funk mixed in, those haunting harmonious backing vocals, along with her supreme vocals, gave this song a unique sound, that I've always enjoyed.
All these years later, my spine still tingles the way it did when I first heard this, and it introduced me to Jaki Graham, timeless music...
