    That's Mike Mills (Toehider) with the hat with wires at the beginning. His character is a machine, he sang the binary in The Day That The World Breaks Down. Tommy Karevik (Kamelot/ Seventh Wonder) and Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) with the back and forth vocals.
    The woman in the leather jacket is Belgian Maggie Luyten (The Prize, ex Nightmare). Yes, Arjen saved Floor for the end, he likes to do that.
    The backup singers, from l-r, Floor's sister Irene Jansen, Lisette van den Berg (Scarlett Stories), and Marcela Bovio( MaYan/ Stream of Passion).
    The Ayreon Universe concert in 2017 was a best of Ayreon and another of Arjen's projects ,Star One. This song is the 3rd from the album, "The Source", TDTTWBD was song #1 on that album.
    This is only your 2nd Ayreon video, if you want to put them in the poll tomorrow, try another from this show with "Star of Sirrah", "Valley of the Queens", or the show closer ,"The Eye of Ra" with all 16 singers on stage.

    Ayreon is basically Arjen Luccasson and his friends. Arjen was not in this song, as he rarely appears on stage, but when he does, you'll know ... he's 6'7". The talent on this stage is staggering ... and since you don't recognize people, you'll be surprised to know that Floor's younger sister, Irene is the backup singer furthest from the audience. She's maybe a half inch taller than Floor, so she's easy to recognize. These musicians are the elite of Europe. The keyboardist, who arranges and manages them all is Joost van den Broek, and he was the keyboardist for Floor's first band, After Forever. He's Arjen's right hand man and pretty much takes care of all the music on stage. You're just watching brilliance.

    The Ayreon Universe Live show was a best of Ayreon concert, or rather concerts over a weekend. They were the first official Ayreon live shows after 22 years. They played a compilation of songs from many Ayreon albums and some songs from Star One, another of Arjen's projects. I can only recommend to have a look at the whole show. There is a playlist for the whole concert and Arjen supports reaction channels. So there should be no copyright issues that can't be solved by a short message to Arjen.
    Here is a link to the playlist for Ayreon Universe live: czcams.com/play/PLJGn3wi7b7b606GfoKAdOgm6rtX9OliRc.html&si=AVAcB3vZzC1ED1Ph

    Hi Nikki, told you: everybody dying has never been so much fun! Your smile from beginning to end was priceless and a joy to watch. Next one would be perfect to have the Ayreon Universe band introduced to you. None other than Floor's little sister and one of the three Ayreon's Angels here, Irene Jansen will do the honours. Warmly recommended: "Ayreon - The Two Gates (Universe) TRANSCRIPT + LYRICS IN SUBS". Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

    Ayreon is...well, a guy, basically. His name is Arjen Anthony Lucassen, and he's a guy _with a dream:_ to write progressive metal operas and get amazing people to participate in their creation (especially singers - he's got a real knack for choosing the most incredible singers for the exact right roles in those operas). Arjen is a major part of the recording process, playing guitars, keyboards and bass (and sometimes even singing), but he has a major case of stage-fright, and really dislikes performing live. Still, he recognizes the potential impact that a live show can have on the people who love his music, so every once in awhile, he organizes a series of concerts in his neck of the woods (usually just in the small city of Tilburg, the Netherlands, where he lives...but sometimes other places in that general geographic area) and people literally come from all over the world to experience his creations live. Performers also come from all over the world to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime kind of show.
    Typically, the performers in the incredible live productions (they are true multimedia experiences, a wonder to behold...or so I'm told) are those who contributed to one or more of Arjen's albums. For example, in the song you just watched (part of the "Ayreon Universe" concert), I'm sure you recognized a bunch of people who participated in _The Day that the World Breaks Down_ (including the incredible Mike Mills, Floor Jansen, keyboardist Joost van den Broek who played piano in TDTTWBD, drummer Ed Warby, and of course Hansi Kürsch and Tommy Karevik who have their little back-and-forth singing session). Additionally, all of the other people who performed in this concert (some of whom participated in just one or two songs, while others were in nearly all of them) have taken part in a previous Ayreon project...and/or one of Arjen's other crazy endeavors like Star One, Stream of Passion, The Gentle Storm and Guilt Machine ...he's a busy man! Man I'd love to get a peek at Arjen's Rolodex. He's gotten so many incredible musicians to help him over the years, including the one and only Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden's singer), groundbreaking guitarist Joe Satriani, and keyboardists Keith Emerson (from ELP...RIP) and Rick Wakeman (from Yes). But he only picks the very best, so it is a tremendous honor to be asked to participate in an Ayreon project.
    Also, many up-and-coming musicians used an Ayreon appearance as a way to be exposed to thousands of music fans who had never heard of them or their band before. Floor herself was first in an Ayreon at age 19, and followed it up at 21 by being a lead vocalist on "Space Metal" by Arjen's band Star One. Her band at the time (After Forever) was fairly underground until the early 2000s, and they clearly benefited from this incredible exposure, which leads me to wonder if Nightwish would have ever known who she was had she not been boosted by appearing in Arjen's work. It's possible - she's quite a force of nature - but Arjen absolutely helped show her to the world.
    You will find that looking into Arjen's creations is like entering a whole other universe (which is why this concert was titled "Ayreon Universe"). He is extremely prolific, and all of his Ayreon creations fit together in a massive über-story that starts in 2017's "The Source" possibly billions of years ago (indeed, _The Day that the World Breaks Down is the very first song in the entire saga), and continues far into the future of present-day humanity.

      Wow, that's a big Wall of Text, and a very informative one! Still not as big as the guy though..😁
      Actually, I'm not sure how much Ayreon helped others get exposure. It's always been a niche thing even in the progressive metal circles, and even today, it's much less known to the general public than Nightwish, Blind Guardian or Dream Theater. After Forever were pretty well known in the Dutch metal scene in 2001. They were a support act for Nightwish in 2002, same year Floor (and Irene) toured with Star One. They dwarfed Nightwish back then, and not just literally.
      One singer who surely benefitted from working with Arjen is Marcela Bovio. If not for him, she would've stayed in Mexico and nobody would probably have heard of her. He got so impressed by her that he formed Stream of Passion just to give her a band, and even went on tour with them. Don't know how he managed to conquer his stage fright. They probably forced him at gunpoint.😂

      @VoIcanoman Před 7 měsíci

      @@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Oh, I know After Forever were big in The Netherlands back then, but nobody in North America had heard of them (and that never really changed much). But plenty of people in North America (myself included) had picked up an Ayreon because one of their favorite musicians was in it, and used that album as a way to find new bands and artists to enjoy. I personally checked out "The Dream Sequencer" because of Neal Morse, "The Flight of the Migrator" because of Russell Allen and Michael Romeo, "The Human Equation" because of James LaBrie, Mikael Åkerfeldt and Devin Townsend, "01011001" because of Daniel Gildenlöw and Hansi Kürsch...and the list goes on. Ayreon might be a niche thing, but it was and remains one of progressive music's biggest outliers (a legitimate one-man project that is of the highest quality in composition and performance...lyricism is occasionally lacking, but that's an issue with the genre, not with Ayreon) - most prog superfans (from any nation) who were paying attention in the '00s have been exposed to them, and with "The Source" and Arjen's impressive work on publicity (namely, his insanely well-produced video for _The Day that the World Breaks Down_ ), more people than ever are now discovering them (including those too young to have experienced most Ayreon albums when they were released).
      International exposure is a really important thing...so many amazing European bands never take the next step towards global recognition within the prog or metal community (look at how hard Nightwish and Epica had to work to gain global recognition), and thus attracting the attention of a guy like Arjen, who is deliberately finding the best talent, writing amazing music for those people, and marketing it internationally (this is mainly an American thing, but also British, Canadian, Australian and critically, Japanese) can be the best thing for a young, promising musician.

    • @noneofyerbeeswax8194
      @noneofyerbeeswax8194 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@VoIcanoman European bands never get exposure in North America (US especially), unless they're really big. If it's NIH (Not Invented Here), it's nothing.
      Some American bands too never get the recognition they deserve. How many people have heard of Solitude Aeturnus and their amazing singer Robert Lowe? Not many.
      "lyricism is occasionally lacking", lol. Yeah, progheads love writing some cheesy sci-fi stuff. I don't think anyone listens to this kind of music because of the lyrics, so it's no biggie. Cheese is kinda the point here.
      Some bands try to be serious about it, but e.g. Threshold and Headspace are rather boring with their generic anti-war protest (and even Damian doesn't make enough difference to make the difference). After Forever tried a concept album about child abuse and neglect which I actually like, but it wasn't a commercial success. Btw, they were even bigger in South America than in their home country.
      Quite often, too much recognition (i.e. mainstream success) means death of creativity and transformation into a bank machine. Examples are plenty. Of course, this won't happen to Ayreon, Arjen is too much of a hippie for that..😂

    Yeah, everybody dying is fun, especially when you're amongst the few that are going to survive.😁 That's the story anyway.
    Arjen likes to drop the F-bomb at the end, she normally blows everyone up.💣
    For the next Ayreon songs, I recommend "Valley of The Queens" or "Star of Sirrah" from the same concert. Very different songs, but I think you'll enjoy both.
    The sound you liked - I think it was Deep Purple who pioneered this mix of a distorted Hammond organ with a distorted guitar. Yeah, it's really cool!

  • @bobsuisse2
    @bobsuisse2 Před 7 měsíci +1

    Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) is the proof that artists in Metal can like each other, be friends and can make unbelievable music together. No paid stars. That's the difference between most of European bands to the US. Bands, friends, staying together for a long time with only a few line-up changes. 😁 And Arjen is the master of "puppets". The two male voices next to Michael Mills (TJ1) are Hansi Kürsch and Tommy Karevik. Blind Guardian and Kamelot. BG is a MUST, because they did the HYMN of METAL! (The Bard's Song and Valhalla, Wacken 2016 live) and Kamelot is one of the few (fantastic) US Symphonic Metal Bands. Their album "Epica" was the reason for Marc Jansen to name his 2nd band "EPICA" after he left AFTER FOREVER (Floor's 1st band) 🙂🙂🙂

    1:41 The lady to our left (closest to the singers) is Irene Jansen,Floors little sister. She is pretty much a permanent asset in these Ayreon concerts as 1 of the backup singers. 4:45 And here is big sister Floor 💃A common thing is that most of us prefers to not mention any artists who joins these concerts,as it is to see that surprise/shock factor when people see it for the first time
    There is 2 performances on CZcams where Floor and Irene sings together throughout songs,there you get to see just how much alike they are: Floor & Irene Jansen - Into The Black Hole "Star One Live on Earth" (2003) Remastered (In that performance you also get to see the brains behind all of these multi artist performances on guitar to the far right)
    Floor & Irene Jansen - Who I am live at P60, Netherlands (2007) Both of them recorded close to the stage,both performances are great,but this is my favourite one,simply because Floor is wearing her iconic After Forever outfit. Only in later years beaten in popularity by her Wacken dress.

    Hi Nikki. Plenty of your reactees have written really helpful information concerning Ayreon and the concept of such a project. What I will add is that when Arjen Lucassen is ready to record an album, he will have various singers and musicians in mind, and depending on availability, usually gets the artists he wishes to work with. That is not always true with regard to live performances, and consequently there will often be 'guest' artistes replacing the original singers. Bearing in mind that the first Ayreon album was released in 1996, there are even some of the original collaborators who have died! See ya x

    This song is indeed part of the same story as The Day The World Breaks Down. Some of the singers were replaced for the live show due to logistical reasons. Universe Live has also some songs from other projects, like The Guilt Machine and Star One. Nevertheless all were written and produced by Arjen Anthony Lucassen.

    Hello, to have a bit better understanding how HUGE is the team behind this specific concert, maybe do the final song of the concert, which is "Eye of Ra" - in second half of that song, every artist comes to stage, and they are like 25 singers and some more "only" playing an instrument...
    Due to the concert including songs from different albums of Ayreon, there is not clear storyline, which is otherwise strong in albums. Thus you might be a bit confused as far storyline goes. But the songs are excellent!
    If you WILL watch the final song, you can recognise on podium at minimum Floor Jansen, her sister Irene (in Ayreon's Angels = backup singers) and yes, Marco Hietala too!
