I just ordered the AnyTone version. After doom scrolling for quite some time, this is the best review of this radio.
Yours is the only one that I've found that covers programming it.

wow! thats exactly like my anytone 778uv only rebranded. it was my first mobile rig when i got my tech. works well and is easy to program never had an issue max power 25 watts. its currently in my truck, as i have upgraded my qth rig with a yaesu ftm 400 and a icom 7000 for home use.

Is a nice cheap and cheerful radio, and it is supported by CHIRP Legacy / CHIRP Next which is nice.
It is rather uncouth in a high RF environment as the front end easily overloads and breakthrough is very apparent in this use case.

You are a problem solver!!!!! I was using an Anytone UV 5888 III in my go bag and it is a great radio, but bulky. The one thing that you said that resonated with me was about the power of the R 95 radio. My hand held work just fine at 5 watts , so what to I need 50 watts? I purchased an Anytone 778 and I an setting it up now. The 5888 now travels between my car and truck. You are the man!!!!! Thank you for all your work.
This may my contingency communications bag much lighter.

The MFJ wattmeter you're using reads low if it's like mine. But yes, my 2-year-old RT95 does a little less than rated power. Additional negative: Mine has become mechanically unstable. I can pinch the top and bottom of the case on the side of the volume knob and the radio turns on. Speaker volume has faded since new. Still, I may buy another as a go-box radio because current drain is low for the output power.

I bought the Anytonve version of this radio about a year ago and it's worked well in the mobile, it wasn't as nice to use at home with a tall high gain base antenna because I experienced regular front end overload (and I'm only in a small rural city of 100,000 people not a big city).
Never the less it was such good value as a mobile radio that when my friend asked me if I'd recommend them I said yes (but explained the front end issue).
However unlike my totally reliable one his experienced issues from day one and finally stopped transmitting, given the cost of sending it back overseas from Australia to get serviced or exchanged (and then back again) he decided not to get it repaired.
That can happen with any radio of course but I'd suggest being cautious unless you're close to a supplier (like Radio Oddity) who can do warranty work.

I believe the fan is just covered by the heatsink in that spot in the back where it protrudes, looking at other Chinese radios like this a fan is usually there. May be wrong but it seems like it would be there. For the price and for a newbie like me upgrading from a handheld this is very appealing, the display is great compared to other Chinese radios like the QYT ones. I just bought one off aliexpress with a programming cable for 159 CAD shipped, I am going to have to get a power supply I want to set it up as a base station in my house.

The Retevis website says in the Features section "Full alloy body for heat radiation" and doesn't mention a fan. My RT95 doesn't have one. Also the manual warns that the case gets hot after long transmit sessions at high power. It's passive cooling only. 73.

I just got this radio for my car and love it. However, WHY does the VFO shortcut NOT work if the settings are saved to display channel name? I'd much rather see Channel x, etc instead of the frequently for FRS channels.
If I set it to freq or name, it works fine, but still displays 1-22 as the frequency instead of actual name? Really not a fan of this at all. Any idea what's happening why I can't save as channel name on display if I want to use VFO at all?

I bought one of these about 12 months ago, but have only just now taken it out of the box. Shame I actually took this long to test it, I would have sent it back if I had found out sooner that it's HARDLY anything near a 25w radio. The 3 power levels on mine are rubbish. Low is 2.2w, Mid is 8.6w and High is 16.6w on VHF. I didn't test the 70cm's as it would be lower than this anyway. Testing was done into BOTH an antenna with a 1:1 SWR and my 200w dummy load. Even for the price, which ISN'T that cheap in Australia, it's was over $150AUD to get this, it's power claims are a load of crap.
