    This is an amazing opportunity and definitely what Nigeria needs. I see comments talking about poor people, but every country has them. So are we supposed to shame Nigeria going upscale and to never build any world class development? China has lots of poor people, but they build. The Middle East has lots of poor people, but they built up Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This project can bring in lots of foreign money which will infuse the local economy and help bolster the tax base. It would also have the potential to bring in high paying tourists. As the population in Nigeria continues to explode, knowing that there are sections that are world class better helps to promote the city and put it on the world map for destinations.
    As far as dividing the rich and the poor, they are already divided, so I don't know what is meant by that. In every culture I've seen worldwide, rich and poor simply do not live together in the same neighborhoods.

    • @citrustaco
      @citrustaco Před rokem +10

      The one thing I do not like about this project is the heavy involvement with China. As always, numerous African countries take on massive debt to give to China to take control. I truly wish they could give the construction contracts to local workers, however maybe there's a lack of skilled workers or a lack of a Nigerian owned construction company that is capable of such a large project? I don't know. Would be interesting to see the bids for the contract.

    • @shlubbers1778
      @shlubbers1778 Před rokem +7

      True, every country has a wealth gap between economic classes. They are already divided. You seem to recognize this is a problem, but for some reason, you don’t think fixing it is a good idea? Upper class development is good, like you say, but there are far, far bigger issues plaguing Nigeria than a lack of upperclass development.

      Recent times most countries take up Chinese companies’ quotations, not just African countries. So long they deliver the dollar-sense, surely they will get it. Gone are the days where Western countries and Japanese held the know-how in large scale projects, at exorbitant prices.
      Even in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, East Timor, Cambodia, Laos and even my country Singapore, we see more and more Chinese companies winning contracts. Dollar-to-dollar, they indeed makes more sense.

    The Victoria Island in Lagos was at the risk of being swallowed up by the Atlantic Ocean surging
    inland annually. In fact, more than 50% of the coastal road connecting the island to the rest of
    Lagos was already submerged by the waters of the Ocean. The federal government of Nigeria
    was spending heavily to save the prime estates located along the beach of Victoria Island. That
    was until Lagos under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu conceived the idea of Eko Atlantic
    City, to not only stop the savage and relentless onslaught of the Atlantic Ocean on the
    beachfront, but also create a new business district right inside the Atlantic to relieve the
    pressure for space on the Victoria Island. As we speak, the American Embassy in Nigeria is
    building its largest consulate anywhere in the world in the new city. It will cost 537 million USD
    to build it, providing jobs and business opportunities for the locals. Elsewhere, those shedding
    crocodile tears here will call it brilliant. We true Lagosians actually call it so. Those who want to
    "sun kun egbere" are free to do so. Victoria Island has been rescued from the incessant and
    destructive annual flooding. A new city is emerging from the depth of the Ocean, but perennial
    and irredeemable wailers are wailing. Isn't God good?

    I am not surprised to hear of the sad serious side effects alredy being experienced from this project. This is the result of limited physical planning which is so common throughot the world. It is of that which concentrates only on the project site and eafnings to be derived thereof. I sincerely hope that this project will redound to great
    SOCIAL BENEFITS of all Nigerians which will be reflected in a high standard of education from preschool to secondary/high school to feed Nigeria's colleges and universities with the best designed and built schools and with the highest trained teachers.
    Every econonomic area of government investment must be for the national social development.

    1 sq ft for 2 000 $???? Tooooo much the price is crazy! It is for Europeans who measure in sq metres like, 11 sq ft = 1 sq m. Means 1 sq m is for 22 000$. I am not surprised that no-one wants to buy land there. Price is 2 times bigger than in Paris most luxury areas and +50% of prices in London or +75% price in Singapore.
    Today September 2022 in the entire world only land in Hongkong has higher price per sq m for land.
    Anyway I have also big doubts about the Great Wall of Lagos because it only supposed to prevent coastal erosion and flooding, I don't believe that will work there. This is open ocean, not just a sea around.

      It's pure speculation. People investing in this have so much money that they don't really care about the price. It's just an outlet to excess money, just like NFTs, Art pieces etc...

    Progress is Great. The poor should always be included. If there are 250 Apartments or homes, Luxury or Not, 80 should go to poor Families. They should've trained to live there to avoid conflict. Costs must be based on their resources.

      Buy land in Atlantic city and give it to the 250 poor families, they will take it from you and probably sell it off to those who can afford the cost of living there
