    UPDATE: BlurBusters have reached out and pointed out that 35 Overdrive gain at 240Hz was too low. They are correct. You can go as high as 50 without issue. However 144Hz and 60Hz shown on video are still fine.
    NOTE: At 60Hz the strobing on the Viewsonic is observable by the human eye. It literally looks like an LED strobing extremely fast, and is very uncomfortable to look at. Could be unusable for some people. I forgot to mention it in the video.
    Also, you might have noticed that my audio quality is much better than previous videos. It's all thanks to my long time friend EVIL WAFFLES who happens to be an audio engineer. If you guys want to say thanks, check out his twitch! He doesn't know I'm writing this here so don't tell him. www.twitch.tv/evilwafflesss

      Xbox One X can use 120hz mode for monitors that support it. I wonder how 60fps content with 120hz BFI would look 🤔

      Wanted to mention that You can minimize that crosstalk on Zowie monitor also with BluBuster Strobe Utility!
      I had Acer Nitro XF252QX (240hz TN) for 1.5 years. I got Zowie XL2546k few days ago and to be honest, the Dyac+ Premium, is not that impressive to me. Maybe that Acer was just so good with it's VBR and BFI mode... And Acer had so much better TN panel. Kind of regret selling it. Next week i should get this Viewsonic monitor. And i think i will return the Zowie, just because that that TN panel is so bad for just about any other content that is not CSGO. Also miss the USB hub from monitor and integrated speakers. Do not want to use my headphones all the time. Acer had the USB hub and integrated speakers and so does Viewsonic.

    You need to use different overdrive gains -- stronger for higher Hz. 144Hz is good at 35 OD, but 240Hz needs a much higher OD Gain. Follow steps 1-7 of the instructions in the Strobe Utility page, to adjust in sequence (back and fourth) everytime you change refresh rate. First choose your Pulse width. Then adjust OD Gain, then Phase, then OD Gain again (finetune), then Phase again (finetune). Alternate adjusting OD Gain and Phase back and fourth until you get clearest. Please readjust 240Hz - and post the better OD Gain you got. You'd be surprised how much better 240Hz still can get!

    • @BlurBusters
      @BlurBusters Před 2 lety +7

      @@twilightggwpDepends on your goal. Clearest crosstalk-free motion requires refresh rate headroom, as crosstalk goes down with the bigger difference between strobe Hz and max Hz. Therefore, if you're crosstalk-priority instead of flicker-priority, and want the perfect zero-ghosting image (top/center/bottom), you need about 100Hz with a Vertical Total of 2700 (via ToastyX CRU or NVIDIA Custom Resolution). Most like using 120 Hz with a Vertical Total of 2250. As a bonus, these large VBI's also reduce strobe lag slightly too, allowing scanout of a 120Hz refresh cycle in 1/240sec. If you're worried about flicker, but want lower crosstalk, 180Hz at Vertical Total 1500 is a good compromise. Strobe Utility will be necessary to re-tune the monitor to perfection, once you create a custom resolution with a large blanking interval (longer idle pauses between faster-scanout refresh cycles to allow LCD GtG to be hidden unseen in dark by eyes between refresh cycles).

    I use a custom setting with a pulse width of 19, which gives me about 100 nits of brightness. I think my pulse phase is at something like 82 , overdrive at 5, and vertical total of 4500. I get ZERO crosstalk at 60Hz and it looks absolutely amazing. This is truly a CRT-like motion we're getting here. Up to about 120Hz gives similar results. Outstanding monitor.

    Great review!
    The biggest standout for this monitor over other great monitors like the Zowie is the 60hz BFI/strobing.
    60hz BFI is essential for high quality motion on console games like PS5/Switch. Yes, there will be visible flicker, but visible flicker is required for high quality motion on consoles until console games standardize over-60-FPS.
    Most TVs already support 60hz BFI/strobing because they are designed with consoles in mind. People want to also be able to use gaming monitors with consoles and retain high quality 60fps motion.
    This is why blur busters certification now requires 60hz BFI/strobing. People want to use consoles with their monitors, not just PC. And even when future consoles standardize over-60-FPS in the bulk of their games, 60hz BFI/strobing will always be necessary to make legacy material look good.

    • @user-hg7yv5fj1f
      @user-hg7yv5fj1f Před 2 lety +4

      I should also mention that tons of PC games limit their FPS to 60 or contain many bugs if you try to run them higher. A few games that come to mind are Terraria, Stardew Valley, Skyrim, and some of the Fallout games. There are countless examples of PC games frustratingly limited to 60fps, (most gamers have probably played multiple without knowing it) which is another reason 60hz BFI/strobing is essential to keep a consistently good motion experience on those games.
      It’s also best to not use 60hz flicker on the desktop with static white images. It is much less bothersome in-game and unfortunately is still the only viable solution to make 60fps motion look good.
      (I’m sure you already know most of this but I am merely solidifying information for some of your viewers)

    I really disagree with your Input Lag comment. Yes, there are other things to consider than input lag, and purchasing decisions shouldn’t be based solely off of input lag, however input lag is a super important datapoint to measure and consider.
    I really hate the argument that our eye can’t tell the difference because lag is part of a chain. In cycling they call this phenomenon marginal gains, where they stack hundreds of almost imperceptible improvements on top of eachother and the end result is being 10seconds faster than the competition and less fatigued.
    The same thing happens with lag but its even more noticeable because of frame rules. If you miss a frame by 1ms then you’ve added 4ms of lag as you wait for the next frame. That creates an inconsistent input experience. It doesn’t sound like a lot when you are actively trying to tell the difference but it definitely has an impact at the highest end of competition. What you don’t consider is the impact of lag on subconscious aim. The easiest way to tell that you have subconscious aim is when you are looking at the map and kill a guy just using your peripherals. However as you tap into the highest performance levels, and as you reduce system lag a top tier player will all of a sudden start hitting crazy/instant shots subconsciously and consistently.
    Of course the argument is always that the vast majority of buyers are not toptier/professionals. I’d argue back that how would they know if they could be toptier if potentially their system has been holding them back. However its totally valid and worth mentioning that paying extra money for marginal gains is not a good idea for most people. At the same time, I think it is wrong to dismiss the idea of lag as merely something thats imperceptible, because thats the thing, aim is often done in the subconscious mind which we can’t perceive, so the fact that we can’t perceive it doesn’t mean that there is no benefit to lower input lag.

    • @josipreponj1928
      @josipreponj1928 Před 2 lety +5

    • @Cuthalu
      @Cuthalu Před 2 lety +1

      @@josipreponj1928 It was a deep rabbit hole. Year after year everything has less input lag because people pay more attention to it, so it's becoming shallower and shallower. It's still not that hard to notice the lag with a setup like typical 240 Hz, 400 fps, G305 mouse (which is quite fast, but not the best). But we're starting to be near the area where it will be impossible to see or feel the input lag. :)

    • @josipreponj1928
      @josipreponj1928 Před 2 lety

      @@Cuthalu You can notice it yes, but single digit lag differences are almost imperceptible. There is this issue of people not knowing how 1-5-10-20ms really feels like. So the good question is should you be worried about it.
      Good displays and peripherals are no longer a big problem, at this point most latency comes from gpu, rendering, software...

Thing is 4k is far better for shooters such as Tarkov, when you need to spot tiny objects to live 30 seconds longer. It is, however, limited at 120fps because of talented devs, but I'd rather prefer 24 4k 144hz over 24 2k 240hz. Pixel density matters a lot. Can confirm, 60hz strobing looks like absolute shit in terms of flicker. It will literally cause you to wince at your monitor screen. You literally want to look away.
    However, they claim going up to 120hz should retain the clarity like their special 60hz setup. And can confirm the motion clarity with large vertical totals at 120hz is pretty insane. And you dont get insane flicker that hurts your eyes like with 60hz. Playing games and moving the mouse fast, you can see EVERYTHING with insane clarity. It's amazing. My eyes literally need to adjust to it because im so used to typical blurry motion. Games I played so far is halo infinite and dungeons and dragons online and I am blown away at the motion clarity.
    To do QFT.... Set the monitor to 240hz. Open nvidia control panel, custom resolution. Change from automatic mode to custom mode. This will ensure you use 240hz statistics which is required according to cheif blurbuster. AFTER THAT STEP, change the refresh rate to 120hz, and then double the total vertical pixels. I had 1160 stock st 240hz. So i doubled that number to 2320. Then setup a custom purexp mode using the app. I still had minor crosstalk at the very top and bottom of the screen, but when gaming you dont notice it at all. And the motion clarity is insane.
    Black stabilizer is literal trash. 1 step in either direction and the screen looks like literal shit. Worthless for this monitor.
    Got mine mounted to a vesa mount.
    I also did 240hz 10/90 pixel response on the official blur buster forums for this monitor. Granted 10/90 can be misleading. Generally no monitor is capable of 240hz. 1000/240=4.1ms. 10/90 times says this monitor is capable matching or beating that transition time especially if you run ultrafast overdrive.... But im sure full 0/100, it isnt capable.

    Reviewers are missing on capturing full strobe crosstalk, top-middle-bottom screen areas. Most LCDS will have doubling in other than middle parts. That's something you could do for your future reviews.

      I would go for the Viewsonic as a budget option.
