  • FIRST DRIVE: The New Equinox is finally here and Chevy has made some big changes and brought an RS trim. On the outside you will discover and all new front fascia, headlights, grill, 19in wheels, and rear bumper. On the inside you will be greeted by leather interior, an 8in infotainment screen, and special RS appointments. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 170HP & mated to 6-speed automatic transmission. Is the NEW 2022 Chevrolet Equinox RS a better SUV than a Toyota RAV4 & CR-V?
**********QUICK CORRECTION: Sorry for the confusion but there is NO 2.0L engine option of the 2022 Equinox.

We purchased a new 2022 Equinox Premier 1.5L Turbo DOHC 4-CYL drove it to Florida over 2,800 miles round trip, very pleased with the performance of the 1.5L Turbo, I was passing cars at speeds of 90 MPH on the freeway and it still had more to give, very impressed with the Chevrolet
Equinox ride and comfort of the seats, we ordered this Equinox in June of last year and just received it on March 16th. 2022 during that time period Waiting I Was worried about the Equinox 1.5L being under powered because we were trading in a 2016 V-6 Impala which had plenty of power for passing,
but the Equinox prove me wrong on all counts, we also averaged 27.3 miles per gallon average speed was 70 Miles per hour if you trust the car’s computer!!

I like the interior, clean & simple! You only need the screen big enough to operate the daily functions with the controls. I don't know why so many people are obsessed with the larger screens & infotainment centers. Do you really need that much distraction & entertainment on the road? It's just not me...lol. But everyone is different.

My wife has a 2020 and cannot get comfortable in it so the equinox was off my list...until I sat in the red RS at the auto show. Inwas so shocked at how comfortable I was, how much I liked it and the little refresh! This went from last on the list of next vehicle to the second choice, especially with the awd option. The Buick Envision is still first choice😆.

What I like about the Equinox ( refer Premier trim, is the 360 camera, the competition does not have this at this price level unless you go Nissan) also it is not a flashy car almost invisible but in premier is classy, space, enough power, enough tech, ventilated seats, all wheel drive, everything you want or need and nothing you dont..... Oh and a super imortant detail, no fake plastic like the Rav, crv and the rest on the fenders showing you are a tough outdoor guy............. This one keeps it clean and not trying so hard. An honest vehicle from Chevy... Thank you

I actually prefer analog guages for revs and speed and then have a big 8-10 inch screen for everything else in the center. I think analog guages looks more precise but also gives depth and dimension instead of just a flat panel. I do like how BMW puts little chrome halos on their digital interment clusters. I really like the guages on my Camaro, it's the optional interment cluster with the bigger screen.

Both engine are great, I had both of them, but I currently have the 2.0 turbo and that one has the 9 speed automatic, for towing heavier boats, the bigger engine is a must.
I tow my 19 foot bay boat that weights 3000 pounds, and my car is capable of towing up to 3500 pounds which is very close to the limit, plus mine is a front wheel drive, but if I could, I would definitely get the all wheel drive version.

I've never been a GM fan but I'm lovin driving the Equinox. It's so silky smooth and easy and comfortable to drive. I'm finding that I'm coming up with errands I have to run just so I can drive it some more. I'm coming from a Toyota Tacoma but wow... It's like I'm driving a spaceship when I'm in the Chevy. I'm still sold on Toyota reliability but I'm going to stay away from the Chevy dealerships because it wouldn't be hard to talk me into buying a new Equinox.

  • @philippoon8879

I think the seat warmer at this time may not work due to the part supply issue for certain vehicles, however later this year GM will invite the vehicles affected by the supply issue to the dealerships to activate the seat warmers or the ventilated seat if applicable. Even in Canada we're affected by this supply chain issue. In fact the Equinox and GMC Terrain are manufactured at CAMI in Ingersoll, Ontario (under 2 hours west of YYZ).
In fact your test vehicle's seat warmers are not installed until GM calls in on the parts for the activation of this feature.

Hey Joe and Lori, and also the Raiti's Rides family, how are y'all doing today? 😬
Thanks Joe and Lori for this amazing review about the Chevrolet Equinox which was debuted in 2004 for the 2005 model at the iconic (for me) Detroit Auto show, anyways if you haven't told by my emoji I'm actually confused and thought that Chevrolet stop making this SUV long ago, I also I thought this was a new Buick 😬(and that's why I used this emoji).
Anyway the Chevrolet Equinox is like the Toyota Rav-4 of Chevrolet, but it received a facelift for the 2022 model year (which was much needed) and it have a "sporty" trim that is the Rs (that's what Joe is presenting today) and if you have seen there Facebook post (should take a look, it's actually good), it shows that the "new" Chevrolet Equinox have a black leather seats with red stitching/accent.
But to keep it "short" (lol short isn't in my dictionary) what is your favorite compact SUV:
Maybe the Buick Encore, GMC Terrian
Or the more popular compact SUVs like the Nissan Rogue, Toyota Rav-4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Ford Escape, Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Kona, Hyundai kona electric (just an electric Kona), Ford Bronco Sport, or ect.
Or maybe if have a bit more money to spend on a Luxury/Premium compact SUV like the: Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-30, Acura MDX, Audi Q3, Jeep compass, Jeep Cherokee, Volvo XC40, Volvo XC40 recharge Pure (electric XC40), or ect.

Joe and Lori as always I love your reviews. You guys are the best. Maybe Lori could do some reviews, my wife thinks we need to see more of a woman's perspective and I agree. I have a dark blue 2019 FWD Equinox LT 1.5 with the 8 inch touchscreen, roofracks, heated seats etc that i puchased off my lease in December. It drives as well or better than my father in law's 2021 hybrid Rav 4. In fact my Nox feels more nimble Yes the interior has some hard plastic but his Rav 4 has hard plastic along the whole length of the upper door sills down to the armrest, then down to the lower door. He could only get Navigation if its paired to his phone. Guys, these are not high end cars plus plastic is used to reduce weight. Unfortunately GM did discontinue the 2.0 because the demand was so low. GM should bring back the 2.0 and I wish they had a hybrid version, although an all Electric Nox is coming next year. The oil consumption issue on Equinoxes was the last generation with a different motor.

The powertrain you’re driving is the only configuration the Equinox comes with (even confirmed on Chevy’s own website). So, yeah, nothing but hot air out of Chevrolet again, offering an RS trim on a vehicle that doesn’t really need it. Wouldn’t get this thing if my life depended on it.

Love it. Got the awd with the Rs package. Best features are the comfort, hd screen, panoramic sun roof, heated steering and adaptive cruise control. I’ve been having so much fun. Can’t wait for the summer. Bikes fit easily in the back. No longer need a bike rack.
Awd is amazing in the snow. My insurance monitors my driving so even with the 1.5 turbo, I still need to be careful. Plenty fast for me.
One thing you missed is extra storage in the back if you don’t cover it with the weather proof covers. We always use it when we go shopping.
Love your reviews, but they aways make me hungry for Twinkies.🤗

Very little comparison info on the Rav-4 and HR-V. Just bought the 2022 RS in same blue (even prettier blue color in person). Got $1000 off the $38,540 MSRP from the dealer and an extra $1,200 off from GM. I would have wanted more info on the competition, but they were out of the question. I prefer to keep my arms and legs.

My car was hit recently, and I have been put in a Chevrolet Equinox as a rental. I had to use UBER for transportation for rides before the Equinox came. One UBER ride was in a Honda Pilot. The Pilot felt like you were in something lightweight, and the ride was awful. The ride in the Equinox is smooth and quiet. I also do not feel like I am riding in something lightweight. The ride is very good, and the 1.5 liter engine moves the Equinox down the road very well. For my driving, I feel like the 2.0 engine would not be needed under my driving needs since the 1.5 does the job. The Equinox I have also does not have all wheel drive. I do not need all wheel drive where I live. The fuel economy has been 26 miles per gallon in combined city and highway. This is very good gas mileage, and the Equinox has quite a bit of room in it. I feel like it is a much larger mid size vehicle with the roominess of the larger mid size cars of the late 1970's to early 1980's. When the repairs to my car are complete, I will have to return the Equinox back to the rental company. I wish I could keep the Equinox, and may sell my car and buy one.

I'm a fan of GM. With that said, they're falling way behind. The 2022/2023 refresh of both the Equinox and Blazer just aren't enough. They barely really changed anything at all and in the case of the Equinox, kept the anemic 1.5L as the only engine choice. I'd only consider this, maybe, with the 2.0 4 cyl. This is basically still the original design for this generation of Equinox.
