  • Here is our review of the Alienware 17 r3 with RTX 2060 and 144hz panel. Has The new thermal design in this years model righted the wrongs from the r2? We have a 2070 super model arriving later this week so will also be comparing the 2070 super in and upcoming video

    Just today I was looking into getting this laptop. Great timing on the review! The power brick is not an issue for me, as I would probably get the 2070 max-p with the highest cpu. Assuming it would need that much power. Better too much than too little, I guess. But the soldered ram is an issue. That’s really a bad move on Dell’s part. Anyway, thank you for the concise info. I’m happy to be one of your first one thousand subs. 👍

      Thanks mate, I really appreciate it. I expected a large brick with a max p 2070 or 2080 I just expected a smaller brick with the 2060 model! What annoys me though is dell redesigned the 180w and 240w and they are much smaller and more compact and match the machine, this 330w is the same brick they have used for 10 years

      @@MashITTech I think that if the person who watch the vid is interested in the laptop would watch the full vid without noticing it is too long, also you organize and explain things really good which make things a lot better, and if you are in a hurry and just want to see a short video you always put all segmented in the description which I think is really great and most channels don’t do. I think that to treat all aspects as possible is great for a review, but you can also try to do shorter if you worry a lot and see how it goies but overall in my opinion is better like this and I see it’s working great in your channel! I leave it up to your decission boss!

    awesome review. definitely getting this. could you explain in a video or right here what the alienware amplifier does and how it works? it’s what your talking about at 1:57

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Před 3 lety +1

      The Alienware amplifier is an external graphics card that can be added to the system to improve the graphics performance (often called EGPU). It is essentially a box with power supply and pcie slot that you plug a graphics card in. It can be useful when your laptops graphics are no longer able to play the latest games. I don't have one in stock at the moment but I do have a Razer core x chroma (a thunderbolt EGPU) that just arrived so will make a video on that.

      No, I am talking internal SSD slots for adding storage later (the laptop will come with one slot populated with your 512gb but then you can add more later. the laptop does also have a micro SD card slot on the side (the type you often find in mobile phones). I was hoping the laptop would have a full size slot (which you normally find in cameras) as it makes getting footage from cards easier for video editing.

      You can attach what ever monitor you prefer. It can be high refresh rate if you plan to use it for gaming or maybe a 4k if you plan on using it for photo or video work. Most monitors will have HDMI and Display port but you will need to buy a mini display port to display port (or an adapter as the alienware is mini display port on the back)

    I already miss my M17 R3 😪
    It's back in Dell's hands now, just waiting for refund to come through. Oh well, I got 6 great months out of it.
    I just used fans in performance mode when gaming, which is completely tolerable, and in that mode I could load all 8 cores of the 10980HK at 4.1ghz without throttle. My cinebench was 4483, I was able with max fan to keep all cores in cinebench at 4.4ghz without throttle. That's the max spec of the chip, 4.4 all core turbo! Again, 100% load. When gaming I locked the multi to 35x to keep the heat down, and my GPU (2080S) never, EVER went over 70. Was usually in 60's. When doing audio work, I used quiet mode and I could literally load all cores at around 3.2ghz at 100% load with complete dead silence. Amazing. I could do big audio projects with no laptop noise. Oh well. The Asus is looking to be a fitting replacement so far, but I already miss G Sync. And 4K on a 17" screen is having all sorts of weird scaling issues with various apps and plugins.

I had the top spec 10980HK/2080S/32GBram and they didn't have a part replacement. They needed a motherboard with all those parts. Right now in Australia dell don't have a good lineup, maybe shortages, no 3080 in X17, no unlocked in X17 etc, so they couldn't upgrade me either.
