    I tried Anthony Grimani idea of using my ears to level balance my speakers after a YPAO calibration. Spent about 20 minutes sending white noise into every speaker trying to get them all to sound the same. Closed my eyes and just used remote to change levels without paying attention to values. In end the result was so much better than what the receiver room calibration gave me. Center channel had more clarity and depth and everything sounded like one huge room of equal sound. Only used it for movies so can't comment on music results.

    Thx, after using dirac live, my LFE all but disappeared. I'm trying to figure out to bring it back a bit. It did do a great job to make the system sound better as a whole; just want a tad more punch.

      see Dirac’s own channel tips, they cover this briefly, I had the same problem life less no meat, the key is a custom target curve boosting the bass region, I also chose for now to cut the curtain to 600hz as it was boosting the mid hi to upper hi’s too much, im still tweaking but the custom target curb with at least 6db of boost was the ticket, Dirac said up to 10db is not unheard off, good luck

      @@ebaysnipa hey I purchased and started using Dirac live full bandwidth for the first time yesterday on my denon 4800H. And after applying the filter with the 10db Harman target curve my speakers are completely muffled in sound with so much compression. I can’t figure out what I did wrong as the graphs look like my speakers normal curves during testing.
      Do you know a fix to this? I can’t find anyone on internet having this issue

      @@The3hunnaa Did you apply the 10db curve to “all groups?”

  • @drivemarkci
    @drivemarkci Před 2 lety +2

    One thought. You're still limited to the speakers in room frequency response. You can't raise dips too much with room correction or PEQ because you end up overdriving the speaker and/or amps. I try to not raise dips more than say +3dB. So after applying a target curve I still need to edit and follow the speaker's frequency response. End result may not be “Target Curve” perfect in the end for using pink noise and headphones as reference. But the speakers are what I got.
    Am I thinking right here? Mostly using Dirac Live.

  • @Mike_v_E
    @Mike_v_E Před 2 lety

    So if I get this right, you would recommend creating a PEQ curve (SVS app) and Phase dial your sub before you run Dirac?

  • @AvithOrtega

    What about the Target curve for Music/media studios? How does it looks like? I know it's not universal, but as a starting point, is it the same as Harman's curve?

    Great presentation. I’ve used REW for a few years. What is a good solution for individual speaker test tone generation? Most AVRs use GEQ instead of PEQ for tones. Also, REW is limited to 5.1 leaving out height channels.

    • @Audioholics

    I think that one of the key is listening to material that you know very very well.
    In terms of costumer, I´d maybe watch different [scene(s)[ material they know very well, for example some chapters for like bass, some for surround, immersion will be amazing if all fits together.
    What is also very underrated is calibration of the picture, what many people forget or don´t think about :/

    I bought Lyngdorf 3400. I pressed the buttom maybe 10 times. The it was done. I had to check if all the fuz about RoomPerfect was true so I ordered a microphone and checked. Now im confused over the results because its compared to what I see other get. And if I have it in "bypass" its insane difference. No isolater. Wood house. Old window. Worst enviroment but amazing resaults.

Also doesn't Trinnov use a three pronged microphone for this very reason? I don't know therefore I'm asking.

    • @rts100x5
      @rts100x5 Před 2 lety

      shor answer is no.....In Filter Design you should separate Front L/R, Rear L/R , Atmos , Subs into its own group (1,2,3,4 etc) Then apply a target curve based on the measurements in each Group

    There was a question in chat about a 2.1 system by Nightjar asking how he can do bass management in his system. The response I would have for him is he needs something like a MiniDsp between his pre amps and amplifier. He could then change crossover point and eq and time align his system.

  • @mdelhaj8858

    interesting, even professional's have this thing about the speakers channels level post calibration.... i mean u trust the auto setup calibration Dirac/Audy. etc. to perform a full EQ on the speakers FRQ. where it may cut/boost 12db +/- in some case even more, but u don't trust it to perform something as simple as channels level matching?...

    • @josephfranzen5626
      @josephfranzen5626 Před 2 lety

      Dependent on the quality of the room correction system most don’t trust any room EQ system to do full range correction and limit it to the room transition frequency. Even with Dirac Live and ARC I’ve always limited my frequency correction to 300-400hz with exponentially superior results to full resolution correction.

    • @tommyshoe-star1426
      @tommyshoe-star1426 Před 2 lety +1

      @@josephfranzen5626 I did full correction first on my Arcam AVR 550, after watching a lot of videos, I tried to limit at about 5-600 Hz, it makes a huge difference because the stage imaging will not be shattered. I´m still trying to figure out how to get the best out of it.
      Even with 2 sub-outs, I´m just using the sub out going in a miniDSP 2x4HD and spreading the LFE to my 2 subs.
      There is a very nice miniDSP go-through about sub integration from "home theater gamer" if someone is interested.

    i think maybe we get a little too wrapped up in achieving a perfect sound for HT. there is certainly bad sound, objectively bad sound. good sound? pretty easy to get. but great sound, we might be chasing the dragon a bit. i mention this only because I still go to the movies all the time and i cant imagine they are spending as much time as we all do messing with the sound in each theatre. maybe im wrong about that. i guess my point is chasing HT nirvana just seems like not alot of juice for a tremendous amount of squeeze (ie time, money, effort).
