  • A wonderful audio documentary I have on cassette, narrated by John Ardoin, with lots of good quality live and studio excerpts. A fascinating insight into the life of the greatest performer who ever lived.

40+ years later and we're still talking about her, she is still the #1 operatic selling artist today

50 years later we are still talking about her....nobody else....just her! She set the bar so high that nobody could follow her. RIP Ultimate Diva, unique, unequalled, unforgettable. We bought seats in Covent Garden but only used the edge!

So much beauty left in the voice at the end. Out of physical shape and practice, but so beautiful. Oh well. What a singer.

Thankfully, we now have pirate recordings online which reveal that the tour of 73/74 were far from the disaster so many biographers and critics claimed. Her voice was far from pristine, but obviously improved during the tour, despite Martin Bernheimer's venomous comments.

I heard her on that tour ... and her voice was beautiful and fluid, I remember that evening in Philadelphia to this day

At 42'30 does she say : I wonder, will I really be happy or will I pass my life alone struggling to survive?
I d rather hope for worse and have the best.
If you do need something that s good, you won't it, 'cause you are so afraid, because they care one day, one month, one year and then what?
So, my hopes have been broken. Up to the skies and then "bang", down, you know.
What will one do? Sitting for a war, I,ve been facing for a war all my life.
How can I go out, you know, sort of walking with my feed, I'll be picked up.
For beginning, thanks God, they adore me and I, ve them around. It is the only thing.

At 31', it is said that she was anguished to register. For sure, as she said, "an unhappy bird cannot sing",
she told in otherway John Ardoin the same.
People hurts you, mother hurts you, and you cannot answer, you cannot defend, and more than that, you re supposed to go on singing?

The voice I hear narrating does t sound as Ardoin but rather as Rescigno's voice

At 32 minutes.....I prefer Callas on her worse day than the others on their best day!
