Maria Callas the best opera singer in the most amazing acustic theater in the world named Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires, Argentina!

¡Oiganme! ¿Es la orquesta titular del Colón? Ritmo trepidante, excelente conjunto en la obertura, matices de grandísimo nivel, bravo!

Barbieri was possibly the greatest Adalgisa! Callas was Norma anyway in all possible ways and the two voices match wonderfully. Still there is the haunting voice of Christa Ludwig in that part.....

Callas in 49' was great! As great as my other favorite, her mentor, Claudia Muzio!

Is this perhaps a little sharp? That high note is typically a C, though I'm not sure whether it's written in that key or not. Here it sounds like a D flat. But whatever it is, I think it's one of the most beautiful high notes she sang.

Apparently, she sometimes sang Norma in the original keys. I know she did this at least twice in 1953. So Casta Diva would've been sung in G and Mira O Norma in F. Perhaps this performance had the original keys too? Perhaps Rimembranza was originally in F-sharp.

It's possible the recording is played faster than intended. The overture is faster than I've ever heard it, including other versions conducted by Serafin.

@@danawinsor1380 Her voice also sounds lighter and higher. I think it's being played too fast.

Shahrdad it is DEFINITELY played faster.
There is no F# “O rimembranza”.
She sang Casta diva and the second duet with Adalgisa in G only in London in 1953

@@Shahrdad This recording is way sharp, right from the start. The sinfonia should be in G, here, it is in A.

The duet is most definitely played back too fast. This is the correct pitch and speed, and both of the ladies sound like themselves. czcams.com/video/LdI-STcU2_8/video.html
