West Ham are keen on securing the services of Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon this summer, according to Ben Jacobs.
The CBS Sports journalist claimed on 14 June that the Hammers are giving the deal a look with the 24-year-old set to leave Spurs this summer.
The Lilywhites had the option to extend the left-back’s contract by another year but decided to let him go.
Ryan Sessegnon would be a decent free transfer for West Ham this summer
Sessegnon is a versatile player who can operate as a left-back or a left-winger, providing the Hammers with depth and flexibility in their squad.
His pace, dribbling and crossing ability make him a threat in the final third and his defensive skills, although not quality, he’d do a decent job for the club and combine well with attacker Mohammed Kudus.
At 24, he has plenty of room for development and could become a key player for the club in the future.
His experience in the Premier League, despite his injury struggles, would be valuable for the Irons.
Signing him on a free transfer is a low-risk move and his wages would likely be lower than those of a player with a similar profile who is under contract.
This would allow West Ham to allocate their resources to other areas of the squad that need strengthening.
It remains to be seen if this materialises over the coming weeks and it could actually be a shrewd deal to get over the line.
