  • It's been tough to go back to Kharkiv to see my 2nd home in Ukraine, there has been significant damage in the city center by Russian missile attacks, and even my own apartment was damaged by shrapnel from a Russian rocket. But the scale of damage in North Saltivka is indescribable as i'll show in this video here.

The unlawful Russian attack from Belgorod, the battle of Kharkiv was February to May 2022.
2,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed after non-stop shelling.
The Russians were stunned by the lightning advance by Ukrainian forces, that cost Russians 1,000 square miles of land and a key military hub. The Russians acknowledged that it had lost nearly all of the northern region of Kharkiv.
    Take care Johnny.
February 24th is the anniversary of the unlawful Russian invasion. Putin and his evil empire are plotting.
Glory to the defenders of Ukraine!

The courage and the positivity of the Ukrainian people is incredible. They are tough and resilient, I’m so impressed by their mind set, they could choose to complain and be negative, but their bravery, strength and attitude has been the key to their success holding off the Russians, reclaiming their land taken by the invaders, fighting so courageously, even though all the odds are against them. My heart breaks for these people. I have experienced living through a large natural disaster, an earthquake which damaged or infrastructure, buildings through most of my city, including my own home, many people died and we we’re unconvinced with no power, running water or sewers for weeks and that was hard enough, but nothing compared to the scale we see here, we did not have the treat of soldiers or bombs falling on us with no end in sight on top of the struggles. I can’t imagine what these people are going through. Bless them.

Johnny, your videos tell the stories of people living in wartime Ukraine better than any other source I know of. For example, hearing your friend Stanislav talking about the next-door apartment building being hit by a rocket brought me to tears. And having you driver show you his destroyed garage - after walking through cluster bomb-pocked buildings and past mine fields and a child’s toy - made the war feel real. Slickly produced documentaries and news stories don’t capture that feeling and make the war seem far away, happening to “someone else”.

But when her husband went to the garages, there was Russian rocket fire and the friend and his car literally exploded. I think in the case of the place where you brought food with negative temperatures they need a hearty meal with carbs. Send them crackers maybe instead of a loaf of bread or crackers in addition to a loaf of bread because yeast breads have a shelf life that expires but crackers tend to last a long time. They are burning a lot of calories if they have no heat other than fires so they need a high calorie meal. People can survive on one meal a day if it is hearty, has slow burning fats, lots of nutrition and can sustain the body for an entire day. They need some greens like cabbage and beets. They are probably needing vitamin C rich foods to prevent scurvy, so some fruit like raspberries, blackberries, bananas, oranges or peppers rich in vitamin C.The soup looked delicious and warming. You might want to leave a survey sheet for them to fill out so they can tell you what they need on it when they drop by to pick up their meal.

I thought of those people who died in the bombed apartment block, a whole section missing from it... who they were, how they probably were doing very ordinary things at home when that missile struck .. and how their home may be rebuilt but they can't get their life back. So many people dead, each a rich life story, a stitch in the fabric of other people's lives gone forever, senselessly killed. Those who survived, like your friend, the losses and the cost of the losses, a garage costing $5000 and an apartment damaged , no water, no electricity, no heating... all the businesses and shops destroyed... War is an abomination turning to rubble and waste what took so much resources and money to build, a lifetimes work for families. I hope that Putin will be brought to justice in some form for the deaths, injuries and destruction he has and still is causing In Ukraine.

Johnny, I don't know how many other people are doing this kind of documenting, but you're doing a good job. I've been subscribed and watching your videos from long before the war. And I was totally against your analysis on Russia's intent before the war, and how you propagated Russian talking points before the invasion. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake. Your intent was good, and I knew it then, even though it was maddening to watch. You've more than made up for it being a man on the street showing us every day life as you experience it in the war theater. I genuinely thank you for what you're doing.

Johny, you can visit Pyatihatki. This district of Kharkiv was less covered by media during this phase of war - but it was heavily shelled too. It is located on Belgorodske highway what points directly to russia.
