I’ve known this beautiful song since my teenage years when I first started appreciating Prefab Sprout. Even now, on each subsequent hearing, something new occurs to me. Like how a still relatively young Paddy McAloon wrote this lyric as the melancholic remembrances of a much older man looking back at a lamented romantic interlude. Make no mistake, this man is a romantic poet of some distinction.

I wasn't old enough to see them live and I would cut my right arm off to be given the chance to go back in time... I did manage to see Paddy and Thomas Dolby playing together in London about 7 years ago, which was sheer brilliance.
I saw them at Shepherd's Bush in 2000 and they were good but there was something lacking. They are better in the studio. I could not put my finger on why then and still cannot. Dare I say it there was a lack of passion in the performance but they have made some of the greatest records ever so they had an excuse ( sort of) if my perception is right.
Very few artist have the ability to write lyics and beautiful melodies. Too bad the industry is more fluff and substance, but i am turkey hungry and sugar free.
