So good to Lee Curreri (Bruno Martelli) up there with them - I'm still smiling that I saw him there, he's an amazing musician... fantastic performance everyone and well done!
brought a big smile to my face
I was screaming with happiness when I saw him!
Agree it was to see at least Lee was part of this. Of course Gene (Leroy) is gone but would love to have seen Debbie there too.
@ 2:13, the guy at the keyboards is none other than Leo Curreri, who starred in "Fame" as Bruno Martelli and played keyboard for the original movie and soundtrack
yes he was one of the originals-great to see him.
Gratsia brasileito
And the TV series.
LOVE THIS!!!
@diego hernan Sacarello I'll have to back and check. Coco was played by Irene Cara
Lee Curreri's presence is a joy for the heart.
Yes!
OMG YES, I had to rewind it ( NOW I"M showing my age)
Where does he come in?
@@razberrysky12 You can see Lee starting at 2:10
@@vajolet1 Ah yes, I had seen him at the keyboards but had no idea it was him. He reminded of a jolly owner of an Italian restaurant in New York 😄 What a great production! Thank you
I watched this entire show just for Cyndi at the end.
I watched only Cyndi's part from the above clip :D
Cyndi is perfect star
I watched the entire show looking for her in the audience the entire time.
Irene the Bean Me too
Only few words by cyndi? But look at the video title... Cyndi Lauper (one and only)... Dislike
I don't know how I missed this last year, but I just saw Lee Curreri and literally smiled then started crying tears of joy and happiness and reflection and I'm still crying. I'm SO glad that he was there. Lee was the first that we fell for. He was Jonathan Larson before Larson and before Manuel. BRUNO MARTELLI and his masterpiece. (I know he didn't write it but in the movie, he did).
I thought that was him! Amazing!
Amen❤️❤️‼️
I just saw this now, 12/12/22, and I don't know how I missed it nearly 3 years ago! I thought the featured musicians like Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, and Joshua Bell were doing the song beautifully and with justice. BUT, oh, my goodness, oh, my goodness! when I spotted Lee Curreri, my heart just raced and my whole face lit up! 😍🤩 It was so good he joined this 🥰
Ver y escuchar esta hermosa canción, no hizo más que emocionarme al recordar aquellos tiempos felices.
@@lilo6422yea they were special
Thank you Cyndi... my daughter was part of the choir from LACHSA (Los Angeles County High School for the Arts) singing with you. She had the most amazing experience from meeting you in the recording studio to performing that night at The Grammys. It was a night she will never forget (nor will I... as soon as the music started, the tears started flowing...). So I thank you for inspiring young girls to find their voices, write their songs, and sing. I thank you for posting this, so the world can continue to enjoy the music and what it stands for. And I also thank you for Kinky Boots...A show both my daughters fell in love with
When I saw the movie I wished when I had a daughter she would go to a school like that. Many many many years later my daughter too went to LACHSA
OMGAWD! I want to hug you, knowing your daughter was there, SINGING! How proud you must be. I saw the ORIGINAL FAME in the theaters. I remember..... LMAO when Bruno Martelli blew the fuses. How lovely it was to see Lee there. It was like a bit of home. ( I am such an 80's gal) I happen to agree that I don't feel the rap was necessary, but all in all it was beautiful.
@@coolmoomamaholstein8324It was all so beautiful ❤❤❤
April, 2020....I smiled with tears, as I watched this performance...I recall when Fame first came out, and then as I do today, think that this is oine of the most beautiful and IMPORTANT pieces of ensemble music, ever done.. Inspiring,
Absolutely I bought the album when the film was first released and wore this track out. It still gives me the chill in the best way. 👌🏾 👏🏿 👏🏿 👏🏿
lol ...update... 2023...I came across this video, prepared to write; basically what i had written - 2 years ago - not realizing that I had already watched and left a comment - it impressed me that much !!
The marvelous gal taking Debbie Allen’s part in the dance was unbelievable. As good as they all were, there was no one to fill Gene Anthony Rey’s dance shoes. I still mourn his untimely, unnecessary, and tragic passing. Such a Gifted piece of Art he was.
I can do nothing but agree. No one will ever replace him.
Debbie Allen was not in the final number of the movie, in fact her role had been cut substantially. The dancing star in that number is Leroy. I thought the original is still better than this one.
That "marvelous gal" is Misty Copeland, principal soloist (prima ballerina) for the American Ballet Theatre.
@@simonecesco6832 I never like remakes better than ordinals but in this case I did. This was absolutely incredible.
Debbie Allen was never in this song. She starred in the tv series and did some amazing, legendary dancing on the tv show. But her part in the movie was tiny and did not include dancing.
WOW.......I remember seeing this originally on Fame 40ish years ago when I was a kid in school. I can't believe how well it has stood up time. I still got "goose bumps" seeing in 40ish years later. Thank you all.
Walt Whitman is timeless. I think this was his idea first. 😊
Do it Miss Cyndi !!!!!
I feel exactly the same...!!
me too! There were no recordings, no dvr's. You had to be present! It was my favorite show. I actually got into Julliard, but my parents said no (they didn't think I would get in). All I heard all of my life was, "get your head out of the clouds, kid. Do something practical!" I did. Virtualization engineer/mgr. SO glad I am retired now! But I did bring dreams that became real for both my kids and my staff around the world. So proud of them!
Cyndi ... still amazing after all these years....
Cyndi is so gorgeous.
I remember watching this and as soon as the song started I began to cry I told my husband "AMOR THIS IS WHR IT ALL STARTED FOR ME!!!"🥰🥰😭😭😭
Lauper's taking all the kids to school!! You go girl! xoxo The guy right after Lauper is right there w/her 2, bravo. Classic.
Loved this. Remembering the iconic Irene Cara as Coco, the heart of this magical film. RIP x
Loved seeing Lee Curreri on keyboard!
Riiiiiiight?!!! 🎶
@@mtvlagunabeach TEARS.
Cyndi, you were an amazing part of an brilliant salute to 'Fame' and Grammy's support of the arts in our schools. It was truly moving!! And it really proved what I already knew..... You're only more beautiful both in voice and presentation with age!! Keep shining, Cyndi!! 🌹
Cyndi showed them how it’s done. A true icon
Cyndi! The best!!! Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I love you Cyndi Lauper you the best forever 🥰🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
There's no one like The Great & Legendary "CYNDI LAUPER"!!🌹
Cyndi Lauper... an eternal star...
I've been watching the video for I Sing The Body Electric for thirteen years since it was uploaded, but I don't know why until today CZcams suggested me this version of the 62nd Grammy Awards. Anyway thanks to whoever made it possible. I was very excited to see Lee Curreri who was gorgeous when he came out on Fame back in 1980. Thanks to the musical arranger for staying so faithful to the original version of this great song.
So many beautifully talented people on that stage but seeing Lee Curreri made me tear up. I loved him in the movie and tv show. I know Irene Cara & Gene Anthony Ray would have loved this performance 🙂
CYNDI RELLY SHINE!! LOVED HER LOOK!! SHE RORCKS!!
She looks so fab.. ! I think they shoulda had her singing more . !
And in time ....And in time....We Will All be stars! CYNDI LAUPER - LEGEND YOU ARE ALREADY A SUPERSTAR!!
What a song! It has aged perfectly.
And Lee Curreri on piano again Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Venha pro Brasil, Cyndi 🇧🇷

Cyndi é a mesma de 4 décadas. Cyndi is the same in 4 decades. Iconic
Cyndi, today it's 35 years since you recorded “we are the world” Jan/28/1985. How I know? Because it’s my birthday too.
Né
Cyndi is simply the best!
I love you, Cyn!
2:12
Love how "Bruno's" face reflects " ahhh, remember those times....."
Thank you Cyndi for posting this! I've been searching for this clip for 2 days and couldn't find it ❤️
One of the better Grammy performances in a long time
When I saw this I was in tears!!!!it just brought me back , I AM SO THANKFUL THAT I WAS ABLE TO LIVE A BIG PART OF MAY PASSION AS A DANCER ,AS A CHOREOGRAPHER.. MR ANTHONY GENE I HOPE U CAN SEE THIS !!❤❤
Camila preciosa
The best Cyndi Lauper!!! 👏👏
EXTRAORDINÁRIO CYNDI .....
Woke up with this song in my head, from the orig movie. What ENERGY!! More than one of the original film cast members here...’Bruno’, the duet singers, the dancer in the maroon tshirt? 🎶 It’s tough to come close to the energy of the original film but with Cindy Lauper(!) & the guy that comes in after her (sp?)...and Gary Clark Jr 🎸 (OMG on fire!!)...am really likin’ this modern redo!! 🎶 Sweet! Adding Common was BRILLIANT. 🎤🎶 Listen to the lyrics. Deep. Violent LMers should take heed, maybe Dr. King wouldn’t be rolling over in his grave, may he RIP. ✌️ & 💕all. 🎹🌏🌟
The guy after is Ben Platt an amazing Broadway singer with vibrato that never quits.
@@JAHinHK @JAHinHK Agreed, thank u4id'ing him. Wow! Still gives me goosebumps...thru the closing rap...my soul is in the ethers, amongst a million stars....yes!!!
OMG Bruno is on keyboard! (From the tv show FAME where the song came from)
It was a movie, first.
40th anniversary of that number!
@@RutabegaNG And Lee Curreri played Bruno in both.
I can still hear the old guy (Mr. Shirofsky?) yelling at Bruno about equal time between his music and his academics, always calling him Mr Martelli; in the movie and the tv show which I watched until the original cast was pretty much gone. (There's no 'Fame' without Doris, ffs!
@@1999doogie I actually own the first 2 seasons on DVD. I don't think they ever put the rest of the seasons out, though I didn't really care for the later seasons that much.
I could feel the energy just watching this.
I couldn't imagine what it must have been there watching it live.
Que espetáculo Cyndi que espetáculo lindo lindo lindo
This was just awesome to see. I didn't know this was performed 4 years ago but I'm sure happy I'm seeing it now. My God it gave me the same chills like when I first saw it back in 1980. Fame is such a great movie for any generation to see. It was great to see the guy who played Bruno in the original movie and wonderful to see my girl Cyndi Lauper singing in it. If you were a kid growing up in NYC in the early 80s who loved music this movie Fame meant so much to you. It really captured that moment in time. This was so great.❤❤❤❤
Cyndi is the best!
Great performances throughout. Those who are saying the rapping is out of place obviously don’t get the message of the song. The body electric is free expression of the arts-and in his rap he paid honor to that idea as well as to the man who has been dedicated to keeping the arts in the schools. That performance was more than just hearing that fabulous song from the movie sung as you remembered it in the 70s
Yes and this song is from a musical film about the High School for the Performing Arts.
What you're stating might be true, but unfortunately, the rap doesn't hold up to the quality of the other elements of the performance, which might be saying something about its worth musically speaking...
@@Cyberlucy And the words are from a Walt Whitman poem written 150 years ago. It's more then a song about a high school.
@@AI_Image_Master I sing the body electric is the only line from the poem they used. The song was written for the film.
One of the most epic movie songs ever.
Camila e Cyndi 💜
Cyndi 💖💖💖
Lang Lang! He is unmistakable when he starts head banging and smiling from ear to ear. An excellent pianist as always!
Cyndi, Josh Bell, Ben Platt, Misty Copeland...superstar lineup. Very cool.

What no comments about Joshua Bell, stepping OUTSIDE the 'usual' box of classical music to demonstrate his versatility? That's what's so GREAT about this piece, it COMBINES so many TYPES and STYLES of music and dance into ONE cohesive -- PERFORMANCE. Just like the original, which showcased the talents of ALL of the students from the various disciplines, into a single PRODUCTION.
Not only Joshua Bell but Lang Lang on the piano as well! Both amazing artists and musicians who are so positive and generous in their community outreach. Bravo to them and all the performers in this wonderful piece that I remember from 43 years ago.
2:16 Lee Curreri at the piano!! he was in the original Fame movie & tv show. with his gentle smile and eyes.
Memories to cherish forever witnessing Misty Copeland and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) perform at the 2020 Grammy awards.
This IS excellent! Beautiful performance, Cyndi and ALL the other artists. Please keep it up! ;)
This is best reunion ever! I love it! FAME IS THE BEST!!
Always amazing to see Cyndi. A true artist, I love her so much!
Que preciosa es Camila Cabello 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Amazing Camilla Cabello and the great Cyndi Lauper ❤️❤️
I come back time, and time again, to watch this.. to relive the first time in ‘80. To remember Gene Anthony Ray. I still cannot get over the loss of such BRILLIANCE, so tragically.. his POWerful performing ability, the only thing missing here. To witness the MAGIC of the miraculously returning players.. And Cyndi Lauper.. PERFECT! LOVE this! SO happy it’s here-THANK YOU!
I love you Cindy Lauper, you're fantastic!
What an amazing performance! One energy! Camila’s surprised me with her voice performance! Cyndi ? Come on, you are always great queen!
Cyndi, que voz!!!😍🇧🇷🇧🇷
The best part of the Grammys was at the end when they sang the body electra .couldn't get better than that. 🦊
How is this song not more well known?
Buried by the gigantic radio hits on the Fame soundtrack- Fame and Out Here On My Own- along with the #1 dance hits Red Light and Hot Lunch Jam. This one didn't fit any radio format and wasn't going to get an Oscar nomination up against the Irene Cara radio juggernauts.
Nice to see LEE Curreri on the piano. Such a relaxed guy. Part of musical history of my times. To see Ben Platt and listen him singing this famous tune make me realize there could be revival of the movie with artists like him.
perfect wonderful
Cyndi e a fada mais perfeita e elevada.
Transcendente e virtuose.
Eu sinto a mesma impressão.
linda perfeita
meu sonho é poder ir em um show dela
Thank you for sharing this Cyndi. It was a fantastic performance - a real homage to the original 'FAME'
Cyndi sounds so and looks so fabulous!
Wonderful performance...Sing the body electric just gave me goose bumps...Bravo!!!
What happened to Camila Cabello? She cracked her last note big time. Ben Platt was the best vocalist. Common's rapping was unnecessary and out of place in this song. The orchestra and guitar soloists were superb. I've watched the video from the movie many times and it still gives me goose bumps!
agree. I was waiting for that glorious "when I become one with the sun" note. she lost precious air and didn't hit the high note.
Nothing against Cabello but it should’ve been Irene Cara, from the film. How awesome would that have been??!! 🎶✌️💕
Nervous. But she killed it tho with her confidence 👏
'rap' aka 'crap' is out of place ANYWHERE. incessant monotone droning.
The orchestra, guitar, and the dancers all brought it. The singers, well, they tried.
OMG they did really good im impressed. Common always inspire awarnes with his words.. Even the dancing was on point..
Thank you for posting Cyndi! I’ve been looking for this! Love it!!!
Não me canso de ouvir esta lindaaaaaa , sensacional e top de demais.
love... Cyndi
Congrats Michael & Tanya....."Mike (AKA "Mikey") it's great to see your success after 25 yrs plus of hard work. MJ

Cindy did a great job! She was the best and did the original proud
The best Cyndi Lauper 😍
My favorite song from the movie. I've watched that movie so many many times. Bruno I love you!!! I close my eyes and I can picture that scene from the movie. This was the best part of this show. Wow! Comon you were on it!

P.S. I didn’t realise, until several of you mentioned it, that there were so many who were here from the ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE! WOW! Debbie Allen was breathtaking! As fabulous as it was, though, .. well, to me, the magnificent presence, POWer, and ENergy of Gene Anthony Ray will ALWAYS be missed.
Well done Cyndi.. I love you now and always
